The man begins to sing a song based on a bit of poetry by Longfellow, which "Kikyo" respectfully listens to, eerily reminded of her own little poem-song that she had hummed to calm herself earlier when traversing the lighthouse... Gastly makes a comment about the man being insane, which may very well be true, though the statement makes Marion wonder. "Is the love of poetry madness? I suppose I must be quite mad, then, too... it is such a pretty song." Kikyo giggles slightly. "I like him, too."
Marion is suddenly struck with the realization that the strong negative energy that saturated the Lighthouse when in her own body now seems strangely absent. Marion figures that this is not the result of her new body, as Kikyo seems to be similarly sensitive to ghostly energies... It seems as if whatever caused the Lighthouse to be haunted has not occurred yet at this moment in time. Marion already had a feeling this would be the case before she stepped into this role, but the actual confirmation of her suspicion really hits the point home that she needs to be careful about what she does, for her actions have the potential to change the fate of the Lighthouse forever, should they have an impact on her own native time.
Certainly, she could go searching around the basement; Marion was definitely interested to see if she would find generators in this version of the Lighthouse, or some other power source, or even nothing at all. A decoded version of the note might be waiting for her, or even some explanation of those symbols that she saw in the "modern" Lighthouse. That said, despite her curiosity surrounding the basement, Marion is strangely paranoid at the thought of leaving Gastly. After all, if she were gone, and something happened to the Gastly, how would Kikyo/Marion ever forgive herself if she was not there to defend him? Marion decides that, whatever actions she decides to take, she will take them with Gastly by her side. Abandoning a friend for the sake of curiosity was not something that Marion was about to do. Of course, Marion could be worrying for nothing, though she sincerely doubts that to be the case...
As Marion calls out to Gastly to wait for her, she quickly searches her robes for any Pokeballs, potions or other objects on her person After all, this Priestess may have other Pokemon or items of which Marion is not currently aware. After this quick search, Marion joins Gastly on the ascent up the stairs, preparing herself mentally to expect the unexpected.
