You’re both experiencing something you could have only dreamt about, but it is not unfolding as to how your fantasies might have done. To say that you’re panicking might be an understatement, and if it wasn’t for the sort-of calming influence of your ghostly companion, you might have lost your marbles – and life – already.
The only theory you have at this point is that you’re being tested. You don’t know how, or why, but it’s your best idea at this point. Knowing that Myrtle’s still on the queasy side, your more angelic Shuppet is the next guest in the adventure, and she uses Flash to try and figure out where you are. She lights up like something divine, but it reveals literally nothing. The darkness cannot be penetrated by her light.
She apologies, feeling sad that she cannot be of aid to her elder sibling, but not to you, either. You feel sick to the stomach with anxiety, but hide it. What are you to do now?
“Keith!” Myrtle repeats your name again, and it surprises you and Helena just as much as it had the first time. It seems keeping up angry appearances is not high up on the priority list right now. The whole ship is beginning to deteriorate, like bits of data being deleted. ‘Tile’ after ‘tile’ is crumbling into specks, first the walls, and then the enchanted items, and now the floor. You take terrified step after step as this deletion hones in, the three of you worried for your lives (and post-ones) as the darkness engulfs you. You can hear nothing but your screams and the sounds of your Pokemon as even they are pulled downwards. The descent is rapid but feels like forever, until light blinds your eyes and your land in water.
Your Shuppet ladies rise up above it, but you’ve gone underneath. Flashbacks of the biggest event of your life replay in your mind like a realistic movie reel. Perhaps you’re dying. Perhaps you’re dead. Maybe you'd lost your marbles long before now and this is all in your head. You and Myrtle were just beginning to bond and you screwed it up by flipping out like a small child in a horror house. Marion wasn’t even your updater – for shame!
And then you hear it – Missingno.
Your eyes open. The water is a bit salty, but not like it should be, as if you’re still on Whale Island. It stings your vision, but vigour renewed, you swim to the surface. All around you, the world is topsy-turvy, like you’ve fallen into Wonderland. Not too far away there’s a bizarrely shaped wall, and you go to cling onto the edges, gasping for air. Helena and Myrtle hurry over to you, glad you haven’t drowned or turned anymore Gastly. You’re enough to deal with as you are without becoming any weirder, thank you!
You ask where you are, and Helena doesn’t seem to know. But as a former Missingno., Myrtle must feel right at home. After all, this is Sprite City...
