For some reason, the words send a chill down Tuner's spine. He's never really been afraid of much, especially after spending so much time with Reaper, but the way the Mantine worded its caution did not sit well with him.
Moving along, leaving the lobby with TA and Hyrem, the path split. Saying goodbye to his companions, he took the middle path towards the Surf section of the ride. Suddenly a great deal of responsibility dawned on him. Being in the surf section, if anything happened above or below him, he would be the closest person who could help. Tuner pondered over this for a moment, with Reaper by his side as he made his way down the path. Glancing at his companion, even the Duskull seemed uneasy, which Tuner though was strange. He's never seen Reaper look that way before. This whole ride gave both of them the creeps.
Soon, the two reach their destination, the boat. The boat is open, with a Remoraid on its wing dressed up like a pirate. This cheers Tuner up instantly, he's always liked pirates, and he feels comfortated having the Remoraid accompanying him. The sight of something familiar in so much unknown is welcome. The more he thought about this though, the more that feeling was replaced with more creepiness. He realized that the paint on the entire boat looked fresh, something that did not go along with the stories he's been told about this place. What is going on here? he thought to himself.
Noticing a sign above the ride, Tuner turns to his friend, "Reaper, I think it's best if you stay inside your pokeball for now..."
"Skull!" Reaper jumps at the chance and floats towards Tuner's belt, eager to return to the comfort of his home. Tuner though that behavior was strange, but obliged, and boarded the craft. He takes out the ball he received from the Mantine earlier, examining it. He notices a note attached:
He is glad he recalled Reaper at this point. The ghost might have been too scary for this little one. He is so in-thought about this new companion, he didn't even notice the ride moving. Looking up, he sees a Mantine and a Gyarados painted on the side of the wall, both look happy and cheerful. This creeps Tuner out even more, remembering all the children who used to ride this ride. It was once such a happy place, but now? As the ride exits the tunnel and enters the forest, Tuner decides now's a good time to meet his new friend. Pushing the activate on his pokeball, he awaits what will emerge. This little one crawled through the "Surf" tunnel, sopping wet and nearly out of breath. They had taught him how to surf so that he may entertain the children with adorable antics alongside the Mantine boat. I imagine that skill, along with the ability to Charm those who might attack him, were the keys to his survival. A long time ago, he loved the water, and enjoyed playfully splashing the children before jumping on them, giving them a big, wet hug. Always the cautious one, he avoids the water now, but he will jump back in at the drop of the hat if it means saving a trainer or Pokemon.
