Bio: A young adult who intends to see the world of Pokémon before settling down into a "real" job, Joshua cares only for living in the moment, not giving a care to past or future. However, this is not to say he's not an intelligent, logical person, he just has an incredibly relaxed persona, particularly compared to Bishop, his starter. It was this somewhat lackadaisical attitude that caused him to become lost on Route 29 in the Johto Region, at night. He'd strayed too far from his home in Violet City. Fortunately, he encountered a Hoothoot, who with its keen night vision, and knowledge of the area, directed him back. A friend for life was made.

Despite having a keen intellect, Joshua is frequently rash and prone to acting on impulse. As such, he's not good at staying calm in the heat of the moment, and regularly finds himself having to improvise, which is where the intellect comes in handy - cleaning up his many screwups, notably almost burning down a forest on Eyrie Peak. However, he is a very compassionate man. He can't stand to see someone hurt, in pain, or especially crying, and takes pity on human and Pokémon alike. His kindness is easily his most redeeming characteristic, and lends itself to both his idealism... and naivety. Sometimes, he simply doesn't get how the world works, and is easily tricked or misunderstands things.

Joshua has a gigantic love of the theatre and acting in general, and makes a point of stopping by at least one local performance in each town he visits. His love of the stage has aided him in developing confidence and charisma, and become a better person through it. He hopes one day that he can become a great actor, and once his adventures have finished, it's off to drama school. Until then, he's just trying to live life, explore, and have as much fun with his Pokémon as he can. Who could ask for more?

Biography: As Joshua's starter Pokémon, and by far his most powerful, Bishop can only be described as long-suffering from his partner's antics and adventures. However, he is fiercely loyal and obedient towards him and is usually Joshua's first choice for just about any battle. Bishop forms something of a yin to Joshua's impulsive yang, he is much more level-headed and calm in the face of adversity. As such, he is considerably more wise than his trainer. The two met on Route 29 of the Johto region and bonded when the Hoothoot took pity on the young man lost in the darkness, helping him find his way home. Shortly afterwards, they departed New Bark Town as partners in crime. Bishop is the de facto leader of the team, and most of them look up to him. He has bonded most with Cloudy due to their shared typing, and also shares a good relationship with Aegis since they've been together the longest on Joshua's team.

Recently, Bishop has been trying to use his psychic abilities to become telepathic to communicate with Joshua that way, but they understand each other well enough for now without that.

Biography: Aegis was the first Pokémon Joshua picked up from the Adoption Centre - Squirtle had always been one of his favourite Pokémon, and so naturally he jumped at the opportunity to add one to his team. He was named for the famed shield, and while a normally very relaxed Pokémon, Aegis will go all out to protect anyone he cares about, making his name choice creepily appropriate. Joshua claims not to have planned this. Riiiight. It was this need to protect his friends that inspired Aegis' evolution - when Steven was knocked out by a Queen Beedrill, Aegis was furious at his inability to do anything, since he was vomiting from poison at the time. He evolved so that he would have the power to protect his friends in the future. As this implies, Aegis is closest on the team to Steven, mainly because of his guilt in not being able to protect him against the Beedrill. He has something of a rivalry with Mercutio, both competing for "best water type on Joshua's team". Mercutio has the edge in the water, but Aegis has the lead on land, especially due to his Crossfire attack - something of a secret weapon, but a truly devastating one for an opponent not expecting a Fire attack.

Biography: Cloudy is by far the quietest Pokémon on Joshua's team, who rarely likes to raise his voice (making his Hyper Voice attack a rarity, a shock, and a moment that you know Cloudy is using a last resort). Humble to the core, Cloudy is likely to turn beetroot red at any sort of compliment, almost unwilling to accept it - even when Joshua tells him what an amazing dragon he'll make later in life, Cloudy seems to just brush it off, not taking it seriously at all. Cloudy and Bishop share a mutual love of the skies, and while Bishop is more powerful, Cloudy is the team's ace pilot, being more nimble. The duo make a formidable team however, and no aerial opponent is a match for them combined. However, Cloudy is constantly at odds with the more brash, rude Livewire who loves to push his buttons and make attempts to shock him. The Swablu is not the confrontational type, so he rarely retaliates, and Joshua just isn't sure how to handle it...

Biography: Steven is probably the Pokémon Joshua understands most, thanks to his telepathy. However, due to his youth, Steven's telepathy isn't perfect yet, and he's only able to communicate in broken English for now. However, he does manage to get his points across at the very least, even if he does have to refer to his trainer as "Jo". They get by, and Joshua expects his telepathy to improve greatly once he evolves. The two have a close relationship as Joshua carried Steven around as an egg, and awaited his hatching with bated breath. Aegis sees himself as Steven's great protector, and though Steven doesn't exactly mind the backup, he does feel a little molly-coddled at times. He could almost be considered the baby on Joshua's team... If it weren't for the fact that even he can wreak havoc with Psybeams, Shadow Balls and what have you - and he's definitely mischievous enough to do so, or play about with his Hypnosis and Yawn skills!

Biography: Livewire had something of a troubled start - a proud Stunfisk from the Moor of Icirrus, he was kidnapped by Team Aqua, removed from his family and used as a pawn in their schemes to disrupt Raine's Wildlife Park as part of their "protest" (or as Joshua called it, "terror attack"). The angry, confused Livewire was put in a tank of Mantine and Mantyke, which children could surf on, and in frustration, he lashed out. Joshua and Aegis attempted to subdue the Stunfisk, and ultimately captured him - making him Joshua's first official capture on his adventure. Still angry about his separation from his family, Livewire seems to have issues, and only a grudging respect for his trainer - he even outright disobeys sometimes, and ignores Joshua's orders. The two are yet to establish a truly close relationship, and he also has issues with the rest of the team, especially Cloudy, who he seems to love teasing. Time will tell if this Stunfisk can ever settle into life on Joshua's team...

Biography: Voltron is treated by Joshua as though he's made of glass sometimes, rather than cold steel, due to his rarity as a Shiny Pokémon. And likewise, Voltron himself is a rather timid Pokémon, in a way perhaps because of this, or maybe augmented by this. Voltron is very, very afraid of Ground type Pokémon (so guess who his least favourite mon on the team is - Livewire! Abrasive fella.), and point-blank refuses to fight a single one of them, no matter how weak they are. He looks up most of all to calm leader Bishop, and hopes one day to gain the confidence Joshua has developed through his acting. He intends to follow his trainer onto the stage some day, but until then, Voltron is just trying to get along with the rest of the team. Except Livewire. Screw that guy.

Biography: Mercutio is something of an oddball on Joshua's team, behaving about as eccentrically as he can. Much like Joshua himself, Mercutio cares only for living in the moment and loving it. According to Steven, he speaks like some kind of "jive turkey". He is most comfortable in the water and is perhaps the strongest swimmer on Joshua's team, though Aegis may have overtaken him since his evolution - the two are very competitive rivals. Mercutio has not yet decided which Pokémon he wishes to eventually evolve into - Politoed or Poliwrath, though Joshua has a Water Stone in preparation for the latter at least. It's a bridge the two will cross when the time comes.

Biography: Undine is the teensiest bit in love with herself, and seems to consider herself above the "male competition" of Aegis and Mercutio... Though she seems very eager to watch their races, for whatever reason. Any time the team is near a pond though, you can expect Undine to be gazing at her reflection, making sure she's always looking her best. Seems to be doing the trick for Mercutio at least. She and Rydia are becoming fast friends due to their bond as the women on the team and one being in love with her brain, the other in love with her appearance.

Biography: Rydia is too clever by half. The team's insufferable genius, there is no fact, be it useless or not that Rydia does not know and no battle situation she cannot handle. The difference between her and Bishop is that although Bishop is wise, he doesn't necessarily know as much as she does. Rydia on the other hand is incredibly intelligent... But lacks much in the way of common sense. Joshua describes her as "the group's absent-minded professor. She fits right in!" She's good friends with Undine, considering they share similar views about themselves and are the only females of the team.

Biography: Florence, named for Joshua's favourite enchanting chanteuse, loves to sing and shout, usually as loud as she can. This is responsible for Joshua packing a silly amount of Poké-paracetamol. Much like Mercutio, she's an exceptionally eccentric Pokémon, constantly singing to herself and behaving generally rather strangely. Strangely for a Torkoal, Flo has a great affinity for water, and loves to rest by rivers and bathe her feet while the Water types swim, thus giving her a surprisingly good relationship with Aegis, Undine and Mercutio. That said, Florence is inseparable from Isabella, who loves music just as much as her. The two work endlessly and tirelessly on their own songs to entertain the party.

After meeting Keith's Crobat, Hedwig, she has attained the life goal of becoming a magnificent Crobat like her - but this may cause problems with her slow, tortoise friend... Joshua, on the other hand, thinks they'll make a great team once she does - the fragile speedster and the mighty glacier. "Can't possibly backfire!"

Biography: Despite Trucy's extreme laziness, she has gained a reputation as the team trickster, which gives her a surprisingly good relationship with the otherwise mean-spirited Livewire. However, as an Abra, she still manages to sleep at least 18 hours a day, giving her rather... limited time to use her favourite move, Trick during the day. Her speciality is using sleight of hand with her Trick attack to replace objects. Apart from this, Trucy is as yet undeveloped, due to the fact that she just sleeps all the time... Will this change once she evolves to Kadabra? It remains to be seen.

The answer is a resounding no. Trucy is just as much of a prankster as she ever was, but now she's bigger, awake more often and has stronger psychic abilities. Her evolution is still a mystery, given that it took place while everyone around her was blinded by her Flash attack. What is known is that it happened of her own volition, which she posed as a magic trick for Livewire, Aegis, and Rubeus, a trainer named Keith's Stunfisk. Her strength has improved significantly since she first joined the team, and this is likely what allowed for her evolution.

Biography: Amélie is extremely timid and shy, to the point of being essentially glued to Joshua when out of her Pokéball. She isn't a particularly strong fighter at the moment, and is painfully aware of this. Nevertheless, her extreme cuteness, not to mention her value to the rest of the team as being relatively childlike has brought out a mothering instinct in the team to bring them all closer together to raise her, and help her assert herself. Amélie will grow strong. Joshua intends to make sure of it. Nidoqueen is one of his favourites after all...

Biography: Ace is arguably the member of Joshua's team most like him, given that he also has a passion for just living free and in the moment, hence why the two get on so well. Ace was adopted by Joshua from a travelling trainer who had purchased an entire troupe of Eevee and unfortunately couldn't afford to keep them all. Joshua had been building funds to purchase an Eevee for some time, so he decided to help this guy out and take Ace off his hands. While it's clear that he misses his brothers and sisters, Ace lives in hope that he'll encounter them again soon, in the hands of other trainers.

Ace has recently made the decision to become a sleek Vaporeon some day, seeking to explore the vast waters with his many Water type teammates.

She was obtained by Joshua from a trainer who had already captured a Staryu, and didn't want there to be any rivalry between the two. Gem's not overly bothered by this, she's happy enough to stay with Joshua's team and his growing army of Water types.

As such, she's quickly become close with Florence and Isabella, and can regularly be heard adding her insectoid chirps to their songs. However, this grace does not just extend to Sonata's musical ability, but to her general demeanour. She conducts herself with nothing but the utmost decorum and class, and treats those who don't use manners with scorn - she feels they're unworthy of her own manners, which can make her rather difficult to deal with at times.

Biography: Zorro is the team blood knight, slicing and dicing anything in his path, which also gives him exceptional skill in the kitchen. He's hot-blooded, and has adopted a "slice first, ask questions later" approach to problem-solving. While this hasty approach is certain to lead him into considerable danger at times, it also demonstrates his incredible bravery, to the point of foolhardiness, which Amélie (perhaps mistakenly) rather admires. He is brash, and confident in his own ability, agility and considerable strength to get him out of any sticky situation.

Biography: Oswin is Joshua's second zone capture, from the Astorian forest. Having gone there for a picnic, Joshua found his basket stolen by the rebellious Karrablast. With Bishop by his side, he battled the beetle to get it back, but unintentionally sparked a forest fire in the process. While he worked to extinguish it, Karrablast escaped, and it seemed that was the last Joshua would see of the creature... Until it appeared, held hostage by a Beedrill hive that was invading another, as Joshua found himself and another trainer caught in the middle. Working together, they managed to save Karrablast, as well as Steven and a Teddiursa who had also been kidnapped, earning Karrablast's respect in the process. As such, Joshua invited Oswin to continue travelling with him. As one might expect however, Oswin is yet another rebellious prankster, who enjoys the centre of attention.
