Should I train Beldum?

I've just recently managed to get Beldum on my team but according to the main pokemon franchise, beldum knows only 1 move Takedown until he evolves into metang.

However, evolution is only possible in the game after the main storyline, so is it possible for beldum to learn any moves prior to evolution in Mystery Dungeon?

Nope.

Meaning it is effectively useless until you beat the game.

It's just like Rakurai said. Though in RB it's the only way to get Metang and Metagross, as they can't be recruited.
