It doesn't make sense that the pokemon on the main character's team never die. Obviously, no one wants their pokemon to die, but imagine this. You and your friend agree to battle. Before the battle, you were breeding larvesta. You accidentally bring the larvesta into battle. The opponent sends out a level 100 adamant life orb Rampardos and all you have left is the level 1 larvesta. The opponent, just for fun, raises Rampardos's attack to +6. He uses head smash on the larvesta. How can it possibly survive that?

"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
One of the first things explained in the games is that "fainted" means only that it is too tired to keep battling. It can still help you with other tasks, though.
Seriously, fiction staple. It's rare to see people eating, drinking water or... doing other biological things... in fiction, especially games.
Most likely because it's irrelevant. Simply imagine that the character does it off-screen.
Apparently so. "Fly" must have some magical properties.
Remember you're under the effect of a Pokémon move, it probably does something to you so you can breathe.
It probably grows some energy claws — a la anime moves — just for the duration of the move.
"Hey! I was looking forward to seeing you! My rival should be strong to keep me sharp."
Your rival would like to battle!
