F-Zero GX on the hardest difficulties remains the toughest game I've ever beaten. Punch-Out!! can be pretty brutal, though.

Doom & Doom 2 on Nightmare! difficulty. For those of you that don't know, enemies not only damage you more then any other difficulty, but respawn about every 30 seconds. You have to be ridiculously accurate and fast to make it through. Although I'm only guessing at that, since I've completed almost no levels on Nightmare!

I think I died 4 or 5 times (I wasn't using any extra armor, though). The first was in the decomp window room in chapter 9. I swear it was totally bogus- I think I got one-hit killed by an enhanced slasher at full health. I'd been planning to save at the start of the Ishimura, so thank god for the disc swap thing, or I'd probably have thrown the game out the window. (I died again in that room after hitting an exploder sac and breaking the window, on the Ishimura by the first Brute, and I think once on the drill and I ran into Nicole in the final fight.)

lol at myself. Getting to my first save point did take awhile though, because I played through the first disc, then played the second disc up to the start of chapter 9 3 times. I guess that'd be sort of like playing through the whole game in one sitting.

Spider-Man Web of Shadows. I loved the game but it was so hard to beat people like Vulture

Hardest game I've played without question is Gears of War - even 'casual' difficulty is tough, especially when you come to RAAM.

The later difficulties yeah, but I didn't find normal that tough.

I certainly found Gears of War tougher than 2 or 3 was on 'Casual', and that's before running into RAAM...

This will sound absolutely pathetic, but to me, the latter part of Super Mario Sunshine was absolutely brutal.

Spider-man Web of Shadows brought challenges to me, especially on some of those boss fights -_-

Everything came from the water and the earth. Time for a new adventure.

Among games I've played, excluding stuff like I Wanna Be the Guy and bullet hell games which are pretty much just exercises in muscle memory, the Donkey Kong Country games can be pretty asinine. At least you get a lot of lives, but especially by the end, two hit points is tough.

The first game, though, has a really great moment where     Spoiler:- .:

No, I can agree. All the blue coins when you're not keeping track and then there's that lily pad on the poisonous water which is already challenging to get to.

Having been a Nintendo fangirl all my life, I can't say I've played any truly "hard" games, but... I'd have to say that Donkey Kong 64 is one of the hardest. It's a fun game, but there are so many parts of it that are unnecessarily tedious. The worst part is the original arcade version of Donkey Kong that you have to beat twice in order to get an otherwise useless item that for some reason is needed to unlock the final boss fight. That thing has made me want to rip my hair out so many times - if my timing isn't ultra-precise at all times, I'm most likely going to end up dead and have to do the whole thing all over again (on one life). It's no wonder that it took me nine years to beat the whole game...

This. This song was the bane of my existence during that game.

Donkey Kong 64 was the first N64 game I ever got.

    Still never beat it.

Mind you, I haven't touched it in years but from what I remember either I sucked since I had hardly any game experience back then, or the game was harrrrd.

Contra 4 for the D.D is the hardest game I have ever played....way to easy to die.
Take a moment to consider just how nothing nothing really is....If you understand this, then you just solved the universe.

The truth that each person...each soul...is a book. And when we lay our feelings out in the open...and we give them no name...and we give them no author....and we give them no description.....who will actually read them..........?"

DK64 was my first N64 game as well. I was seven when I got it, and didn't beat it until I was sixteen (I think). I'm actually doing a runthrough of it right now, and while it's a lot easier now that I'm older, it's still annoying as hell, especially if you want to 100% the game.

VVVVVV is infamously hard, especially the "Veni Vidi Vici" sequence. Hotline Miami is also brutal at some points, though that's not as bad because you respawn so fast.

Probably one of the hardest games I've ever played is Spelunky. That shit gets impossible around the jungle levels, especially since like half the enemies can instantly kill you and you only regain health by rescuing the damsel if she spawns on that level.

I object with a part of Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play. Also, that wasn't the bane of my existence, that's my favourite remix of the tune.

    Thexter 2: Firehawk

I played that when I was a child, and I never beat the second level. I'd probably find it easier now though.

The thing with that game is, there's just so much to do. You have to be the right character to go into certain places, pick up certain items... switching around can get real tedious. Trying to get 100% is really tough.
