Knuckles fans be damned, if there was any indication that the next one would have had him.

I hadn't even thought about that until you mentioned it.

Well, the formula they're using is going through Sonic 1 to 3 while mixing a few things like Sonic CD, so it seemed a bit obvious that Knuckles would've had hit the third episode...

Well, I just got Sonic Generations today. So here's a short review of the game so far.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through and from what I've seen in the game so far, I have to say that I think this is a really good game. In fact, I really hate to admit this, but I think this game is probably the best Sonic game I've played at least since the Adventure series. And this is coming from someone that's not always the biggest Sega Sonic fan. But they really did a good job with this game. I have yet to encounter any major bugs. Yes, I know about the infamous missing area bug later in the game, but let's face it, I'm never going to be skilled enough at ANY reflex-based game to trigger something like that, and you don't need to be either. Everything can be unlocked without having much skill to begin with. You don't even need to S-Rank everything (though purchasing upgrades is easier if you can).

So yeah. Great game. From what I've seen so far, I'd recommend it.

Other than the visuals, there is no difference between this and Sonic 2 / CD. It's not like I care anyway because Sonic 4 is a waste of time.

There's still a few things to do after beating the game. Mainly S-ranking all 90 challenge acts and collecting all 90 Red Rings. I'm still not done playing the game.

Sonic Generations was so short. I played it, completed it 100% within 25-30 hours of gameplay, never touched it again after. If you're just looking for main game, it's about 4-5 hours.

It's what happens when game devs create a game with 9 levels and 4 bosses. It has less than S3&K for crying out loud.

Don't forget the rival battles which are pretty much the same thing as boss battles. It really isn't fair to compare it to S3&K though since that's two games combined into one package.

Even so, Sonic & Knuckles alone had more levels (if you count Knuckles' half of the game) and more boss fights too. I don't count the rival matches as boss fights because they were unbelievably easy and an insult to anybody with a working brain.

Sonic games these days lack replay value. And no, collecting red rings does not count as replay value.

They should do a online version of the SA2:B multiplayer.

I haven't played S3&K extensively, is there a big difference in level design between the Sonic and the Knuckles stages?

Metal Sonic and Shadow, I can agree with, but I thought the Silver fight was handled very well. It's actually my favorite boss/rival fight in the game.

Why not? They encourage exploration and playing through the levels again. I don't see what the problem is with them.

Yes. In fact, most levels are completely redesigned for Knuckles so that you can use his climbing ability to good use.

More like, a billion cars that he neatly organizes into a ball so they roll towards you but end up running over him. Oh the irony.

Sonic generations definitely has replay value. In S3&K, once you collect the seven super emeralds, theres no real challenge left to the game. generations definitely has more than that in terms of replay value.

i do agree with the online SA2B multiplayer too.

I still play Generations, just not as often as I used to since I've got a Platinum trophy on my PS Account on this game. I just play to admire how much Sonic has changed over the years, and to keep owning Metal Sonic, Shadow and Silver.

Hey, hey I was tryna make a reference.

In all seriousness though, yes Silver's battle was actually quite good.
