I'm 40 hours into the game about to head into Flanore(Sp?) and I can clearly see why this game is better than the second.

Indeed...bar the free run when you're cornered, the chibi characters, and the voiced cut-scenes.

So, what's your main party? Also, when you go and stay at Flanoir before the big battle if you say no to everyone who knocks upon your door, you will DRASTICALLY change the story (along with kicking the spin-off in the nards).

Was that insightful and lacked spoilers?

It's good to play through twice to experience both branches in the story. I personally prefer talking to no one, but only barely.

This I would like to know. I always talk to someone to make sure that... alternative doesn't happen. Also, since it's your first playthrough, I'm guessing your soulmate is Collette? Or are you actively trying to get another?

I kinda spoiled myself on the big change a few years ago actually. I'm probably going to make a second save at this point. As for my main party, Lloyd, Raine, Genis and Zelos.

Zelos is pretty fabulous.

No, you're not forced to get Collette as the partner you share the closest bond with on your first play through however you usually have more opportunities to bond with her as opposed to any other character. There's also the fact that the game simulates the close relationship between her and Lloyd giving giving you an instinct to be nice towards her.

As opposed to you taking a walk with whoever knocks on the door, Kratos sneaks in through the window and you take a walk out with him.

Later, as opposed to facing two angels when chasing down Yggdrasil, Zelos betrays you. You end up killing him and have Kratos as his replacement (as the magical knight in your party).

Best victory line is with Zelos and Sheena when he hits on her.

Zelos is pretty fabulous.

That's close to my party of choice, except in place of Zelos I use Regal. Because Regal is the man.

They always have been. Each episode comes out every few months. Only two episodes to go. Although Formula Subs' site, the only group that had been subbing them, has disappeared.

Any one, really. The only two that are direct sequels are Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. There are others, but one or both haven't been localized.

I'd start with Tales of Phantasia.

Tales of Phantasia is the first one to made, and the battle mode is "quite" basic. Personally I'd start with that one. It's a "sequel" to Tales of Symphonia pair.

Oh, I know it's not forced, but she will always have the highest bond to Lloyd on the first playthrough. It's only until the second (or third for peeps like Zelos if you don't do everything possible to get him to like you) playthrough that you can knock Collette off the top spot. It's hard, though, if you want Sheena or Genis since things that raises their like also raises Collette's. I wasn't sure if Jb was trying to get another to be in the top 3 or just go through the game with Collette.

I've only done it once and never again. I was too sad when I saw what happens if you chose Kratos and I never liked Kratos that much compared to Zelos.

I would say anything Symphonia or above until you see if you like Tales. Phantasia is a good choice if you want to start from the beginning, game release wise, but because of how "old" the battle system (spell freeze) is it can be a turn-off to Tales. Unless you don't mind playing old games; almost everything after Phantasia improves the battle system.

Not even a GBA? It's also on PSP if don't mind playing it in Japanese. But, I would suggest the PSX or the first PSP port for the old battle system as, if I'm correct, the newer PSP version (yes, there's two) fixes and updates the battle system.

But, you always search online for the game and the console since who knows if we'll get lucky enough to get another port of it (it'll be a miracle if the US actually gets it). English translations exist for PSX (and GBA, but sadly, not for any of the PSP versions). That's what I plan to do before I buy the second PSP version.

Anyone with a comp can play Phantasia GBA but yeah, the PSP version is the best version. The GBA version isn't bad if you don't have any other Tales experience to compare it to, so it's the version I recommend.

Ugh...call me a fanboy but I see not much of a point in buying a console that isn't by Nintendo due to exclusive titles and money (please ignore the perfect grade model in my signature). I miss out on so many Tales games...
