We have threads about Volt-Turn and Underrated threats, but nothing about creative movesets. For Shame!
Many claim that creativity is dead. But this is just plain wrong. I guarantee that at least one pokemon on every team has some sort of creative aspect to it. This is a place to disprove the death of creativity. Post any creative sets here. But there are a few rules.
- Don't post something if it is simply just underated, but not particularly creative. I don't care how underated you claim Butterfly Dance Venomoth is, it's not particularly creative. I understand that it is underated, but this is for custom sets that can't be found elsewhere.
- Make it good. Sometimes people post creative movesets that just plain aren't good. Remember, a creative moveset doesn't have to be on a bad pokemon or with a bad move. So don't post your physical Alakazam here saying "but what about the suprise factor?"
- Creative =/= Gimmick. Not every set here has to be a gimmick, and to be honest, Gimmicks aren't really too good or useful. All we want are just creative movesets that will break away from the standards, but will still be usable.
- If you are going to post here, you have to contribute something useful. Don't just say "lolz specs machamp sux". Put some substance into your post. In fact, most post should either be sets or comments on sets.
- Please post complete sets. If you say "I like Amnesia Scrafty", please include a spread, item, moveset, and comments.
- YOU MUST COMMENT ON THE SET ABOVE YOU. If there isn't a set above you, look back to the last set posted. This may seem annoying at first, but it is to be sure that there aren't just sets flooding in, and that we can get comments on our sets. If you post something and notice that something has been added while you were typing, you aren't going to be forced to edit your post, but it would be nice.
- The best sets, that are truly creative and useful and have gotten good comments, will be edited into the OP.
- BW2 sets are now being accepted as the game has been out for awhile
SOME EXAMPLES (From Smogon):
Spoiler:- Examples:
@
EVs: 24 Atk / 232 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Naive
Ability: Blaze
~ Work Up
~ Fire Blast
~ Close Combat
~ Stone Edge / Hidden Power Ice
Yea Yea, more Work Up sets, but this one has more viability than Hydra. This set works alot like Work Up Virizion, force a switch and get a free Work Up. However, Infernape has better mixed attacking stats (104 > 90) and great STABs resisted by only 5 OU Pokemon. (Latios, Latias, Tentacreul, Jellicent, and Gyarados) Fire Blast is used over Flare Blitz because it hits physically defenseive Pokemon (Gliscor and Conkeldurr) harder. Close Combat is used because Focus Blast sucks (and you know it's true). The last slot is up to teh user, Stone Edge is used to nail Gyarados and Volcarona, as well as keeping coverage agaisnt Salamence and Dragonite. Hidden Power Ice can be used to wreck Salamence and Dragonite, as well as hitting Haxorus harder.
The EV Spread allows Infernape to OHKO the standard BU Conkeldurr with a Fire Blast after a Work Up. It also OHKOs Gliscor after +1 as well. Max Speed is used to Speed Tie with other base 108's such as other Infernape and Terrakion, with a Naive nature so it can take Scizor's Bullet Punch better. Finally, the remaining 24 EVs are put into Attack to ensure so that Close Combat and Stone Edge do more damage.
Support for this set includes a way to take out the 5 Pokemon taht give Infernape trouble. Entry Hazards and Dual Screen support also work wonders. Last but not least, Thunder Wave support to screw over Latios, Latias and Tornadus are also key as all 3 can outspeed and OHKO Infernape with their STAB attacks.@

Rash / Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Brick Break / Dragon Claw / Dragon Tail
- Roost
Had monstrous success with this thing. It really is sturdymence. Mence doesn't need too much speed this gen, just enough for Loom. Run Rash with Brick Break for additional wall-breaking potential, or just go Modest with Dragon Tail for phazing. Dragon Claw is a good standard attack. This set is an excellent counter to Breloom and the Firemoth, as well as pretty much every fighting pokemon (save Terakon and CM Virizion). Draco Meteor as immense power, 2HKOing Burungeru with Stealth Rock and OHKOing Roobushin most of the time (who you don't give a **** about). The new Jirachi sets with Doom Desire work wonders.
@ Leftovers
Modest 252 HP / 252 SpA
Doom Desire
Wish
Protect
U-Turn
U-Turn supports both Doom Desire and Wish by scouting switches and passing Wishes. U-Turn lets you see what they send in to take the Doom Desire, like a Blissey, and you can send in Roopushin for example. Either they take the DD and your Drain Punch or switch to something else that can't take both. Creates big offensive pressure and allows you to keep momentum. Protect makes it easier to heal yourself, which isn't hard with 404 HP and great typing.

I've used this set a few times, and it is amazing. Most people send in their physical wall or Mamoswine or whatever to tame the mighty beast, but then get OHKOd by a Specs-boosted attack coming off of 350 Special Attack (without the Specs boost). The main attraction of this set over titans such as Hydreigon or Latios is Intimidate. Intimidate allows it to switch in on things like Scizor Bullet Punch and retaliate. Access to Hydro Pump differentiates it from Hydreigon by being able to use a fairly reliable move to KO Heatran, the bane of the former dragons. The extra two base Speed points over Hydreigon is crucial to its success, putting it in a great Speed tier.
The moves serve general purposes. Draco Meteor is the equivalent of a Hiroshima bomb to those not expecting it from a commonly physical beast. It OHKOs many common switch-ins such as Mamoswine and does a number even to things that resist it like Lucario. Fire Blast is for the steels that resist Draco Meteor, annihilating Skarmory and Ferrothorn. Hydro Pump is solely for Heatran, however it is its best option against Tyranitar. The last slot is a filler, though Dragon Pulse is preferable so that you have a reliable STAB move that doesn't halve your Special Attack.Originally Posted by harsha

I made this set a while back and recently put it up on Smogon. The point of it is to trap opposing weather inducers for sun teams and demolish the opponent with Magma Storm. Heatran even mows through Blissey due to STAB + sun + Magma Storm + Taunt + Toxic, so there's not much the opponent can do to stop it. While it seems gimmicky, it can be just as useful as the normal offensive Heatran. You can further boost Heatran's Special Attack with a Life Orb or simply use an Air Balloon to avoid Dragon-types. If you do choose to run an Air Balloon, running Hidden Power Ice to defeat Dragons is recommended. Will-O-Wisp can also be used to beat down threatening physically-based attackers, and it is really useful against the likes of Tyranitar. All-in-all, it's a surprising set, but by no means gimmicky.Originally Posted by magikarprules

Rather coincidentally like harsha's, but this one is an out and out stallbreaker. With its many key resistances and access to Taunt, Heatran can outspeed and nullify many common walls such as Skarmory and on occasion the pink blobs. It isn't a dyslexic Magikarp against offense either, as with its bulk and power it can deal with most sun teams and some others.
This set is quite flexible, and the EVs and moves can be tuned to your team's needs. Generally though, you'll want a STAB move such as Lava Plume or Fire Blast to deal with Skarmory and other things weak to Fire. Both Substitute and Earth Power work in the second slot, both having their own quirks. Earth Power deals with Tentacruel and opposing Heatran, while Substitute blocks against most status. Taunt and Toxic are staples for this set's stallbreaking role, however. The current EVs are enough to OHKO specially defensive Skarmory with Flamethrower after Stealth Rock while outspeeding Adamant Swords Dance Scizor. The remaining EVs are put into HP for bulk.
Good teammates for this set are ones that cover Heatran's weaknesses well and can eliminate his counters. Celebi and Latios achieve perfect synergy with Heatran while not encouraging Grounds to come in at all.Originally Posted by Rairyan

Here is my very own Rotom set with all the Choice Scarf Rotoms around people switch into a Ground-type thinking I will use Volt Switch but I will use Substitute, and this will be a big surprise to them and I will start sweeping them and paring them with Thunder Wave, when they are paralyzed I tend to get a lot of hax so Rotom is good, but Rotom is a perfect counter for Scizor too and most teams have Scizor on their team. Rotom can be used to damage Tyranitar and other sand abusers when it is in a sub, this is a perfect set to draw Landours or Gilscor out this will give you an advantage. Rotom is also perfect to sweep rain abusers such as Starmie and Jolten while Rotom also abuses rain.
I gave Rotom 252 EVs on HP so it can take hits from more Pokemon so it can survive without Pain Split and I also gave it 252 EVs on Sp Atk to max out damage output. To showcase it's power, Hydro Pump in the rain deals about 40% to Latios. I gave my Rotom Thunder because I use rain so Thunder is a perfect move to use on Rotom because it gets a good STAB boost. I gave Rotom Thunder Wave to stop Dragon-type Pokemon or any other fast Pokemon. Thunder Wave is very useful when used on Jirachi to stop it from setting up or even haxing you. Thunder Wave is also a perfect move to use when Rotom is in behind a Sub as since the opponent will most likely switch in on a Substitute, you can use that opportunity paralyze a Pokemon on the switch.Originally Posted by DM123

Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Seed Bomb
- Ice Shard
Abomasnow is a slightly underrated Pokemon. Leech Seed and with the combination of Hail plus Protect wears down ALOT of Pokemon. Most Grass types (which are immune to Leech Seed) won't want to come into an Aboasnow so you're free to Leech Seed a lot of stuff. A minor example: a CBScizor or Balloon Heatran switches to your Leech Seed, it loses 18.25% from Hail and Leech Seed damage, Protect to scout his next turn and loses another 18.25% next turn, if that Scizor/Heatran switched in on Stealth Rock it has already lost 50% of his health without doing anything. (I really love Leech Seed, such an underrated move imo)
This set has brought me the most success when using Abomasnow. Why? Well tbh I'm not sure if I can answer that but IMO it could be that people don't really expect the Physical set and assume it's a Special attacker or some Scarf set. Things like Tentacruel/Tyranitar/Jellicent/Blissey sometimes come in expecting a special attack only to get hit on their weaker side. Also another thing I loved about this Abomasnow (well and most Abomasnows) is that this guy can shut down most Water types and can mess up Drizzle teams. And this guy has a priority attack in Ice Shard, can be used to revenge weaken Dragons.
Brave nature so you can be slower than Tyranitar (don't forget to set your speed IVs to 0) to get your Hail up instead of Sand. The EV spread is so you hit a SR number and hit as hard as you can with Seed Bomb or Ice Shard (his STABs), and if you want you can use Wood Hammer over Seed Bomb, I'm not a big fan of recoil moves.

Porygon2 isn't exactly underrated in OU but offensive sets sure are. 105 base Special Attack with full investment hits very hard and thanks to Eviolite and full HP Porygon2 has very bulky defensive stats of 374 / 325 / 339. It has great coverage thanks to pseudo BoltBeam and Tri Attack for STAB and neutral coverage. Recover lets Porygon2 stay healthy (not a lot, especially on stall/balanced teams, can 2HKO this Porygon2). Download is excellent considering how physically based the metagame is. It can come in on Scizor, Forretress, most Ferrothorn, Gliscor, Skarmory and others to get the Special Attack boost and start firing off attacks.Originally Posted by DM123

Specs Jirachi isn't even listed in the Black White analysis, despite it being listed in the DPP one. It was one of the last sets added to the anaysis before Black/White came along and occupied all of our time, and it never really got the love it deserved. Specs Doom Desire pretty much OHKOs almost everything that doesn't resist it (bar the special walls like Blissey) and can 2KO **** like Ninetales and Politoed with Stealth Rock. Doom Desire has been buffed to 140 BP this generation, and no longer has an 85% (iirc) hit rate. The idea is to use Doom Desire as they bring in a counter to Jirachi, (say Heatran), then you bring in a pokemon that counters Heatran (like say, Terrakion) and now your opponent has to switch into something that beat beat a Terrakion that could attack, set up a Sub, set up a Swords Dance, or set up a Rock Polish, AND tank a Specs Doom Desire which is hitting pretty damn hard. (Hint, Scizor, Skarmory and Gliscor are all 2KOed by Specs Doom Desire so they cannot really switch in). In a similar example Hurricane Volcarona has next to no counters if Doom Desire is in the air as Terrakion and Landorus all get smashed by Doom Desire, while Dragonite gets its MultiScale broken (and if Stealth Rock is up then its utterly wrecked), the damage enough for Hurricane to KO.

As Scarf Jirachi is starting to pick up speed and finally get the recognition it deserves, this Jirachi has been quite fun for me. Jirachi is the perfect Pokemon to start with- there are definitely elements to a team that help him out, like Spikes, weakening Heatran, paralysis support, but at the same time he's a great team player and lures out counters for other dangerous Pokemon, like Lucario, Salamence, Reuniclus and the like. This set is unexpected, by beyond its unexpectedness, actually good on its own merit, and Jirachi is blessed with the versatility to be easily altered to best fit our needs (as evidenced by the hefty slashing done in the 4th slot). He can really be tailored to fit the team, or the team can be tailored to fit him, and he gives us a very definitive way to begin a team in my opinion.Originally Posted by dragonuser

This set(or variation) was popular in gen4, but is rarely seen in the current metagame. IMO this set should get ALOT more usage. This set pairs exceedingly well with reuniclus since it lures its two main counters(tyranitar and scizor) and handicaps them letting reuniclus flourish. This set can also stand alone, not only with reuniclus, as every team would enjoy a scizor lure and will-o-wisp can hurt other pokes that dont fear shadow ball/focus blast. When playing this set, getting a sub up is really important as this allows u to risk will-o-wisp not hitting(preventing a move from possibly koing). This chance to burn is really the main reason to use this set over subsplit/subdisable. Both of those sets have some difficulty in defeating chople ttar/cb scizor while this set can cripple both of them easily. Also since wisp gar is rarely seen in BW OU, this set will definetly take them by surprise.

This thing makes an amazing lead. Due to his naturally high Speed, it can set up Stealth Rock on a number of common things. On this turn they will likely bring in a specially defensive Jirachi counter. Obviously, you aren't running a specially defensive spread, but you can then U-turn out of the Jirachi counter and bring in an appropriate response. Later on it can come in to set up Stealth Rock again (if it was Spun away), Wish to restore some health of another team member, or just annoy the opponent to hell. I use this set on a few of my teams, and it certainly does not disappoint.Originally Posted by britishlanguage

I can't count how many Ninetales have been lured into an EQ expecting Blizzard. This was built by me on the principle of Sunny Day Ninetales, that grass hits almost all of the weather inducers in OU super effectively. Wood Hammer hits Toed, Hippo, and Ttar on the switch;while EQ hits Ninetales, also on the switch. Ice Punch gives me a reliable STAB attack to use when Ice Shard doesn't have enough power. However, Ice Shard is for being a pseudo-Scizor, revenging and murdering chlorophyll users. This works very well as a weather counter in OU, as usually you have to switch out anyway after KOing their weather inducer to remove their weather without the CB forcing you to escape an unfavorable matchup. This isn't outrunning anything, bar other Abomasnow, so the 252 Hp EVs are there so he might maybe take a hit.Originally Posted by DM123

At first glance, this set might seem rather odd. However, this set has often brought me sweeps where I otherwise couldn't. Substitute and Lum Berry might seem redundant, but that's the key to this set. The goal of this set is to set up on status Pokemon. The best opportunity is to set up on something that doesn't threaten Dragonite and will guaranteed switch out (such as Landorus locked in Earthquake). Then, you Dragon Dance / Substitute while they switch to their counter. If it's a counter that relies on status to take out Dragonite, use Dragon Dance again while they burn your Lum Berry. Now, Substitute while they status again. If it's a revenge killer on their team that beats Dragonite, use Substitute first, and take it out. Now, this set can also easily set up on defensive Pokemon with status such as Will-O-Wisp. This works as the following:
- Dragon Dance while they burn your Lum Berry, or better miss.
- If status missed last turn, Dragon Dance again.
- Substitute while they try to status again.
- Now, you have a Substitute and a Dragon Dance up, so depending on the situation you can exchange that Substitute for another Dragon Dance.
The moves chosen can differ. Outrage and Earthquake are usually the best options, but Dragon Claw, Fire Punch, and Waterfall are all perfectly viable.Originally Posted by DM123

Sick of those Choice Band Scizors putting your Life Orb Zam in a pickle? Well Protect solves that. Similar to Mystic Gar of last generation, Protect let's you scout whether that pesky Scizor is going to Bullet Punch or Pursuit. If he Pursuits, Scizor will take >70% from Focus Blast. When you can't find those opportunities for a free Sub, which is kinda hard with Zam, this set offers an alternate solution. It is also handy for scouting if Rotom-W, something Scizor is paired with, is scarfed or not. Basically this set benefits from having the power of Life Orb without the CB Scizor dilemma.Originally Posted by dewhinifier

Plays same way as protect zam and is the highlight of my crappy semistall team. Protect to scout...hp fire will maul sciz if it goes for pursuit over bullet punch. Another reason I love hp fire on gengar is the fact that it deals with steels...focus blast does, too, but ferro will usually be able to live it if it hits, thus letting it get up a layer of spikes, get up rocks, or let it fire off a leech seed. Skarmory also doesn't mind focus blast...and let's face it, gengar is always faster and is almost always gonna deal neutral damage with focus blast to skarm. (In skarm's case, it also won't like a tbolt to the face if I ever chose to run it.)Originally Posted by pimm94

This set is great against teams with no Steel types. They're rarely seen in OU but in Ubers / DW Ubers magnemite can sweep late game. Some pokes carry either dragon tail or will-o-wisp/yawn. The goal when using this set is bluffing a choice item so the opponent brings a pokemon that would try to set up on Rotom-H like Dragonite,Tyranitar,Haxorus, etc. and then use Trick leaving their pokemon burned which is a huge problem for physical sweepers.Walls also find this set annoying since they lose their recovery from Leftovers and get a Status that hurts them instead but the walls that like Trick the less are Eviolite user who will lose their Def/Sp.Def boost.Volt Switch and Overheat are my only attacking moves because Rotom doesn't need more to bluff a Scarf or Specs since even with a Choice set you will be using Volt Turn and Overheat 99% of the time and with Pain Split Rotom can survive a little longer causing more damage by Switching several items from my opponent's pokes.Originally Posted by Lanik

Credit for this set goes to Big Beluga who helped me make the team I use it on. Basically the premise of this set is to lure in Pawniard's counters particularly Mienfoo, and thunder wave them the first time. The next time Pawniard comes in he gets a SD and OHKO's Mienfoo when it comes in. It works for things like Ponyta, Misdrevious, and Murkrow who could otherwise play mind games with you as you try to predict between sucker punch and iron head. Dual STAB is the best option as even those who resist Iron Head and Sucker Punch take a massive amount of damage from either attack at +2. The best thing about this set is that with hazards anything slower than Pawniard or something that has to rely on attacking to beat it will be OHKO'd instantly. The only thing that really stands up to pawniard are steels and often times if they're offensive they end up getting OHKO'd anyways and if they're defensive they usually can't do much back before Pawniard wrecks them as well. This set is also really great because it doesn't need much team support to function properly, the only thing Pawniard really enjoys more than paralyzing his checks is having hazards down to make his job that much easier. The EVs are simple Max Attack and Max Speed lets Pawniard hit 19 and 15 respectively. With those kinds of stats nothing will outrun pawniard after being paralyzed and it gives him retard strength after a SD which is incredible.

An extremely useful supporter that I use in one of my Uber teams. It can easily counter Extreme Killer Arceus and most physical sweepers, wall Dragon-type attacks all day ,serve as one of the best counters to Latias and Latios in existence, serve as a general pseudo-hazer, be a nuisance to the opponent's team in general by spreading burns, and with Stone Edge, the most creative and innovative part of this moveset, it also serves as an excellent Ho-Oh lure. Stone Edge also in general gives this Arceus-Steel the niche of being a Steel-type supporter against which Ho-Oh cannot just simply come in and get a free Substitute or Flame Charge, something that is extremely detrimental in my opinion, especially to the team in which I use this Arceus-Steel, as every one of its members get heavily damaged if not outright KO'd by one of its devastating Same Type Attack Bonus moves.
252 EVs in Speed along with a Jolly nature is to ensure that Arceus-Steel can at the very worst speed-tie with other Arceus (something that is very important as it is very necessary to be able to burn an opponent's +2 Arceus before they can use Brick Break or worse, Earthquake) to the detriment of its Special Attack, the only stat it does not need, while the 252 EVs in HP are to maximize its overall survivability since this Arceus-Steel is meant to serve as a double-sided wall, and the remaining 4 EVs are just put in Attack to make its Stone Edge slightly stronger.
