*Trainer Card by me*
I think the "mar"ine reference in marlon is clear.
Corless? That's Achroma's name?? Is it because he's cordless?

Spoiler:- In preparation of Pokemon X:
Marlin is a type of diving fish, Marlon makes sense. I like it, suit him IMO and at least it's a real name unlike Burgh
Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-
One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?
Corless...cute
I think the idea is less to be core-less as it is a corruption of colorless
1. Guessing somewhere on the official site?
2. I don't think it means anything in particular. It's an actual last name but I can't find an etemology for it [maybe I didn't try hard enough]. My theory (so it might be wrong) is that they chose it due to similarity to colorless.
edit:
Oh really? Guess I really didn't try hard enough~
That fits him pretty well, appearence-wise. And actually, like, hides him being evil (except not evil but whatever)
Well I think it does anyway
Like this:
I hear Marlon, I think Brando. *shrugs*
It's not a horrible name...it's just not a 'young, cool, tanned big-bro type fisherman dude' name. At least not to me. But ah well. I still love his character design, so I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. He seems like a great character.

I'm sorry to do this, but I won't be posting in the Serebii Discussion Forums anymore. My account here will remain open for trading/chatting with friends, but please be patient for a reply as my visits here will be fewer.
My decision to leave this community is based on the irrational megalomania of certain moderators. Speaking out about and reporting unfairness on this forum is about as effective as asking a corrupt government to investigate themselves, though, and so I've left for the greener pastures of Bulbagarden Forums, where free speech is still allowed and the rules are followed by all, including those who enforce them.
It's been a fun 3 years ~
Hot damn. I never realized the humongous amount of discontent localized names made.
Marlon is fine. Corless is fine. There's nothing wrong with either of them.
The future surrounds us.
Let us begin.

When you think about it, old people with old sound names had those exact name when they were young.
When you get use to a character's name from one version and a different name is given to another version that's being released in your country, it can take some time to get use to. Some people take the change harder than other's, hence, the discontent. This wasn't (much of) an issue back before Generation four/five.Hot damn. I never realized the humongous amount of discontent localized names made.
