Am I the only person who is getting really sick of the general cave locations? After having trekked through the Castelia Sewers, Relic Passage, Chargestone Cave and (currently) Reversal Mountain, I'm finding that all the locations seem unoriginal save for aesthetic features and types of Pokemon encountered.
Although the new feature with Repels has been a godsend.
Yeah, that's what makes them annoying. And aren't there several Breeder battles in the region that can't be skipped?
Yeah, the generic cave areas are getting kind of stale. I don't mind them for like, the first cave you encounter, but after that, I'd rather not see too many of them. You know what would be awesome? If the next time that you have to cross a bridge, instead of going over it on the main road, you have to go under it your first time through and explore the girders and stuff just underneath it. Kind of like the bridge in Half Life 2 (I'd show it you to, but unfortunately that game is a bit too inappropriate for the site, so you'll have to find it yourself, I'm afraid). You'd make your way across a maze of walkways, and there'd be trainers and maybe some wild Pokemon, and you could even take a ladder down the supports to a fishing spot near water level. That'd be an interesting way to make bridges more than just eye candy.
those two attributes
are kind of what define location originality in Pokemon
you could very easily say the same thing about Routes, you're aware
Maybe for a couple, like Marvelous and Driftveil (since Skyarrow is intended to be eyecandy and Tubeline and Village have their own things going), but keep the main road accessible for those who just want to get to the other town. After all, bridges are intended to be an easy, non-convoluted way to cross a body of water. Let's not convolute them too much.
Bug Catchers have always been made of suck. I will not permit their return unless they maintain this fundamental structure.
Except for like that one in RBGYFRLG who ambushes you before Vermillion with the Butterfree that has all the status spam, but IIRC he's like the last Bug Catcher you fight in that game.
Sinnoh had a crapton of caves. It had Oreburgh Gate, Oreburgh Mine, Ravaged Path, Wayward Cave, three Mt. Coronets (you explore it three times), Solaceon Ruins, Iron Island, Victory Road, Stark Mountain, and Turnback Cave.
Maybe the reason you forgot so many of them is because they're forgettable.
For me, it's not really as much how many caves there are, but the variety of caves. For instance, I don't really like caves like Wellspring Cave, Mistralton Cave, Challenger's Cave, and Seaside Cave that much because there's not really that much to them, they're generic caves
That's the idea. It's kind of like Rt. 110, your first time through, you have to progress through the underside, but any time afterwards, you can take the main road if you want. And I don't expect them to do that for every bridge, more like one or two.

My point exactly.

Ravaged Path is more forgettable. Do you know what it is off the top of your head?
At least Scorched Slab has a cool out-of-universe backstory. Scorched Slab, anyway, is notable FOR its simplicity.
