Meeting Riolu early in the game? YES!
I am excited about the new dex, but a bit confused on where the Pokemon from earlier generations came from

That just makes it sweeter when you actually catch one. Like Ralts in Pokemon Emerald. 4% encounter rate, I believe.

You guys are so lucky. I don't get Skarmory until, like after the 7th gym, and I have to trade a Sneasel egg over from Black so I don't have to wait until Giant Chasm to get one.

Something else occurred to me about the Pokemon distribution problem. There are several base forms which are totally uncatchable and must be bred, but you can't breed until post game. Which means that Cleffa, Budew, Blitzle, Larvesta, Drifloon, Shuppet, Wingull, Vanillite, Swinub, Beldum, Golett, and Deino are also unavailable before post game (unless you trade, and even then a few of these can't even be seen before post game). Really poor decision keeping the Day Care on Rt. 3 Game Freak, Sangi Ranch would've been a nice place for it IMO.

And why in Arceus' name is Heatmor in Twist Mountain? It's a snowy mountain, which doesn't make sense for a Fire type. Rebirth Mountain or Victory Road would've made more sense.

One of the Rangers from BW1 mentions something about Poketransfer Pokemon escaping.

    Heatmor go where Durant go
Honestly, though, one would think we'd find more fire types in icy areas.
It's not like heat's a problem for them

But in Twist Mountain? Heatmor doesn't look like something that would dwell in snowy cold places.
Btw, where does Sneasel hang out?

I know it has to do with Durant, but Durant is also in Clay Road and could also probably fit pretty well in Rebirth Mountain or Victory Road too. The best move would've probably been to put them both in Rebirth Mountain and/or Victory Road. And even with the warmth, it's not really feasible for them to be in colder areas, they'd be using up more energy trying to stay alive. Again, it comes down to poor placement. I could come up with better wild Pokemon rosters in my sleep.

Giant Chasm, which is where the vast majority of Ice types are in this game.

If you want to get technical. That's just like saying that you'll get a shiny for every 8192 encounters. Every encounter has a 5% chance of being Riolu. I personally don't care much for technicalities.

Anyone who knows anything about probability can tell you it doesn't work like that. Since every encounter is an independent event, there is no guarantee that you'll get a Riolu after 20 Pokemon or a shiny after 8192 or anything like that. It could be on your first try or your millionth try.

5% isn't so bad. Yanma in HGSS was a real pain at 1% :P
