Which starter should I choose?

So I'm about to play through Diamond for the first time and I'm unsure about which starter I should choose. I usually go for the fire types (my first Pokemon was a Cyndaquil) But I really like that Empoleon gains a steel typing and that Torterra is a physical grass type with ground subtype, even though an ice beam will maul it.

Help?

Chimchar, because when it evolves in Infernape it'll be very useful.

Whenever I chose Chimchar, I had a level 20 Monferno before arriving at Oreburgh. He was the only Pokemon I was using.

And I solo'd the third gym with Infernape. Even destroyed the water gym with ease.

Well ultimately it is your own choice, but I prefer using Piplup and Turtwig. Chimchar has a very hard time at the first, fourth and possibly fifth gyms, it also is bad to use at the elite four, while the other two nearly completely wall the game, especially Empoleon. I am not discouraging you to not get chimchar, its just from personal experience that I found the other two starters to be more enjoyable. But remember, it's still your own choice.

Piplup/Empolion - it's simple. Once its turned into Empolion, it's an awesome special sweeper if you EV'ed trained it on SATK.

Even though Piplup is my favorite from 4th gen, I think Chimchar is far more useful. The number of fire types in D/P/Pt is fairly small until post game.
