I'm going from a contest point of view. some great combinations and appeals could come out of rain dance

Even from a Contest point of view... Hydro Pump was to prove Piplup's growing strength... even if Whirlpool is better for appeals, it's better to get rid of that then Hydro Pump

meh either could work. replacing whirlpool instead of hydro pump can work just as well. although I really doubt pippers would learn rain dance. its just wishful thinking on my part

I'd prefer Mist to Rain Dance, and i bet it would be more flashy in a contest.

The question about Surf, is how would Piplup form it.

I remember a preview where Piplup used Whirlpool and it looked exactly like Surf(except in the ep, it formed the Whirlpool after that part) So it could probably use it like that, or it could make a giant wave and just stand on top of it...

I always imagine a Pokemon hitting his arms on the ground, then a huge wave appears behind and the Pokemon jumps on top of the water

I'm sure it's a great move, but it still seems unlikely that he'd forget his strongest move for something like Rain Dance. Though now that you mention it, I hope Contests aren't suddenly re-introduced. It would be so incredibly tacky to have them back just because Dawn is with Ash and friends in Unova now.

Hopefully they just mention them. Then Cilan gets interest. Finally in Gen 6 if they are reintroduced in the games, Cilan can try them after becoming an S-Rank Connoisseur by the end of BW.
I know you don't like Cilan to agree, but imo it could be really well done. It might give him an interesting challenge. That was what i hoped for Brock, to put his breeding skills to use in contests but oh well. Cilan could put his connoisseur skills to good use in them.

That's assuming that Cilan will stay in the main cast, which may not happen. But even if he does stay, I don't want him to do Contests. They were getting really boring in Sinnoh, and I can't imagine what the writers would have to do to make them exciting again. Dawn should be the last Pokemon Coordinator in the main cast imo.

I'd agree but I want a main male competing in them. I think Sinnoh made them girly with all sparkles, back then in Hoenn/Kanto they were mostly regular battles with rules.

I agree. I really enjoyed the contests because they filled in the gaps between the gym battles nicely. I think having a male coordinator in the main cast could help put a new spin on things. The original contests that May would enter in Hoenn and Kanto were exciting to me.

I agree, there should be a main male coordinator. I wish it was possible. :< Well, it is possible but I doubt the writers would do that.

Looks like Ash will be seeing his old friends from Sinnoh. Cynthia the Sinnoh Champion, and Dawn. Boy, this is going to be great. Especially that Iris and Cilan starting to realize that Ash happened to be an experienced trainer that he knows Sinnoh and its pokemon that they haven't seen before. I bet that they will be shocked that Ash knows a Sinnoh Champion that he helped save the world and the pokemon from the likes of Team Galactic.

I really liked contests. I did fill the gap between tournaments/gyms well and It gave Dawn/May/Jesse something to do other than just be there. Granted, Jesse still attempted to steal Pokemon, it gave everyone something to do and they were handled well, imo.
