I usually dump mine in the PC after beating the first gym leader, though I did use my Simisage in one of my runs. I personally think there are much better Pokemon out there (I'm looking at you Chandelure).

The only thing that can beat a dragon...is another dragon. And ice. Oh, and fairies too.

i didn't use my elemental monkey. cuz i had planned my team at the start of the game and it didn't include a monkey
