Best ice-type (Emerald)? Pre-National Pokedex?

With out any doubt it has to be Walrein, that thing is a total tank because it can take hits due to its thick fat plus its a water type so he can destroy any fire types, also the Spheal family has 2 evolutions where as Snorunt only evolves once, into glailie or froslass (in gen 4). This means that Walrein has more boosted stats.

I have used both on my Emerald team, and I prefer Walrein due to its secondary typing, better movepool and better stats (except Speed, but it doesn't matter). I would say that Walrein is better than Glalie.

Walrein is a great Pokemon for 3rd Gen. It's got great bulk along with some offensive capabilities. The Ice type is never a good defensive typing, but in 3rd Gen, especially in-game, is a fantastic Pokemon.

I like glalie because he's just a boss, and he whoops out damage pretty well. But the spheal line is great too.

I always liked Glalie much more than Walrein. Maybe because it's design and cry is much cooler (no pun intended) than Walrein's.

In my opinion, Walrein is the best Ice-type in the games. I've used it twice (once in Ruby version and once in Emerald version), and it really came in handy against the Elite Four.

I would personally take Glalie, since I found through experience that Walrein just Fails at life innthe elite four

To my knowledge, there are very few ice types in r/s/e, two of which start out as normal, but can be changed to other types (kecleon and castform). While you weren't very specific on which kind of best it is (for battles, for looks, etc.) I'll share my "knowledge" with you (why am I so formal? I gotta stop this.)
Anyways, the best ice type for battles would be walrein, since it has defensive stats and decent attack power. The best for aesthetics would be Glalie (my personal opinion, but I'm sure at least one other person agrees with me. The best hidden ice type is regice, since it's a very cryptic process to get him, and you need to be able to sight read braille (ironic, isn't it?).

Walrein is Ice+Water type. It neutralise's Fire and Grass, so yeah. Walrein's the better option.
