    Post Golden Sun Series!

A RPG and puzzle game. Even it is not famous enough in here,It was maked by Camelot Software Planning and Nintendo. I really love this game

There are 3 series: Golden Sun(GBA), Golden Sun: The Lost Age(GBA), and finally Golden Sun: Dark Dawn(DS).

    The plot is really great.

Discuss anything here from characters, music, and maybe plot.

^ I already made a thread but its been a while didnt get much discussion "wants an expansive sequel to Dark Dawn". DD felt kind of short and lacking compared to the others. Plot was awesome , I just loved the art in DD too. awesomepixels.jpg

Golden Sun is at best a shallow RPG that starts off great, but leaves you wondering why you should even bother finish playing the game.

It isn't opinion it is fact. Golden Sun focus heavily on the puzzle and RPG game play mechanic and thus the story comes off as shallow and bare bones.

You don't live with me so you can't say how long I played the game. Which was longer than 10 minutes.

The series has a very good RPG system, I give it that.

But let's just say the plot likes to stall a lot, and it's begging for a lot more of character development. Why, Sheba got all forgotten and we never found out about her mysterious past.

We did -_- did you not go to her village , she did fall from the sky for a reason. >_> the plot is segmented like that due to how sidequest oriented the game is. That said some more characterization and a branching storyline could be implemented and more involved Characterization for Matthew (the others seem to be getting that in DD and the sequel).

Alright, I'm up for some debate. COUNTOFF!

Isaac - Pretty damn silent throughout the first game till the second and third. The second game was an insult in his characterization since he was a boring hero. By the third game, though, he gets more interesting despite his short time on the spotlight.

Garet - He just sticks with you and remains mostly dumb during the two games. The third game gave him more justice, though, but it changed him quite a lot.

Ivan - Hurray, we actually got somebody interesting! Unfortunately, without all that prophecy talk, he's a bit shallow otherwise.

Mia - The only thing that motivated her to join the group was pursuing her evil cousin, and that's it. Notice how she loses overall speaking importance in the second game?

Felix - He was actually pretty damn awesome when you found out about his motives in the second game. Putting the ball of muteness into his mouth didn't cause much damage to his character development.

Jenna - Thankfully, she shared some good traits with her brother, but I don't think it was enough. That small IsaacXJenna hint could've been more fleshed out when they actually met again.

Sheba - Way more interesting that freaking Ivan, for sure. You're saying we DID get to know her? Sorry, that's not true. She fell from the sky (for a reason, as you say). But even so, she herself doesn't know anything about her past or where she came from. There's just a lot of theories revolving around Sheba that fans make up, but none of them are in-game. For now, she fell from the moon.

Piers - Truthfully, Piers seemed like a random character just like Mia, but he does flesh out quite a bit. His arc really helped him.

Matthew - Guy speaks curses! A bit better than his dad unless he's given a voice and a personality (if he goes through the same thing like Isaac).

Tyrell - Again, he's better in personality that his dad. Don't you change, little Tyrell.

Karis - Pretty likeable too. Ivan can learn four or thirteen things from his daughter.

Rief - I just like this guy. Whatever Mia could've gotten in personality was deposited into Rief.

Amiti - The resident-random Piers character of DD. Guy really likes to talk a lot after getting him, and it shows how there's story.

Sveta - Probably the best developed character with a huge potential ahead of her. Unfortunately, the ending of DD kind of makes me think she won't appear.

Eoleo - Combo breaker. The guy barely had any development besides you-know-who kicking the bucket, but his previous appearance was interesting. At least he was the last person.

Himi - Okay, seriously, this is just insulting after Eoleo. She's just a living plot coupon with no character development whatsoever. That Third Eye is probably the character, not her. She's an awesome playable character during battles, though.

In short, pre-DD had a lot of stuff in the main story yet it disregarded many characters. DD, meanwhile, did an average job at fleshing out the characters, but it was really a brief, easy experience.

This here is why I took a break from the game, the game's plot is paper thin and executed very poorly and I couldn't find a reason why I should care about the characters.

I do however plan to finish the series and lock away in a cupboard once I am done with it.

You make valid points WillChriss but I have to stress the plot is fine , characterization is whats needed.

Wow, since I was playing the game I never get sensitive to characterization. I am know that the characterization is not pretty good when I read a fanfiction about this

You can check fanfiction if you really need to see characterization.

Lolwut, that's not the point. Creators can't just make a game with bad characterization and say "oh, let's not bother with that, just let them read fanfiction"... that's stupid. As much as I love Golden Sun, I have to agree with everyone here on characterization being a weak point.

    Don't be so stupid.

The fan based shouldn't have to use a terrible fan fiction just so they can get their game plot and characterisations fixes. Other wise then what was the point of buying and playing the game in the first place.

If the game has poor plot and characterisations then that is down to the fault of the game creators for don't giving it attention.

Golden Sun's characters are underdeveloped tools for fanfiction, anyway. Their shipping wars are as heated as the Pokemon shipping wars.

But anyway, another high point I like about the game is the music. Dear god, that music.

Well, lets just hope the next sequel will be better than before. In my country forum, so many fans love the first two games and hate the 3rd. Probably they never talk about characterization or never really care

God, the music for this game is amazing. I never would praise Golden Sun for its plot, but its music is another thing. This series also sorely lacks in difficulty, so multiple playthroughs is not easy, but I could listen to the music for ages.

The series itself is too short for much discussion, until the next game comes out, whenever that may be. wiiboychris and blaze boy have accurately summed up most of what can be discussed of the series, so I guess I can't say much else anymore. It's a nice series, but I'm not seeing much future discussion in this thread.

It really is sad how little there is to say about the series; nice use of puzzles uncommon in the genre, ridiculous eye candy on both GBA and DS- we got to see what the originally planned N64 version would have looked like if the N64 wasn't gimped to the ends of the earth. That counts for something- battle system with a lot of customization that's ultimately broken in every way at the endgame, and a plot and characters so basic that trying to actually characterize any of it feels forced even to those who would call themselves fans.

I have used game editors to make challenges, arbitrary and not... made a Doom Dragon whose third form I cannot beat even with a double Sol blade password save. Thought Cruel Ruin and Guard Aura alone were bad? Try throwing Legend, Megiddo, True Collide, Life Nourish, and Meteor Blow off 999 attack into the mix. But then I also made a Saturos + Menardi and Fusion Dragon that are actually hard without being overkill.

    And cue the obligatory remix links;

Well. The maker of the game is a game composer(Sakuraba Motoi). You can see him from wikipedia. He has so many album about game music

Anyway, they even make Sakuraba the composer of Super Smash Mario Bros and the latest Icarus Kid:Uprising. He is a game music expert
No wonder the game itself has very epic theme song
