Too bad a lot of tsundere characters are done horribly wrong and translate to abusing the main character for no good reason while simultaneously secretly loving the main character for no good reason.

Definitely, probably because 'tsundere' is kept as very much a secondary element to more important aspects of her characterisation like, say, 'genius'.

I like the characters who have fun during a fight, making cheesy yet enjoyable quips to the enemy.

I like these too, Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho being my favourite.
