Shaymin was acting out of its own freewill. No one was really "controlling" it. According to the dictionary, control is "to exercise authoritative or dominating influence over" something. Shaymin was not controlled.

It seems most people hated the HGSS arc.

-Heroes of Fire and Thunder is basically a single-volume DPA
-Hazel needs to lay off Almond because she's a borderline stalker
-Team Rocket in PokeWake is less compitent and/or professional than Jessie and James at their worst
-Ono is the best pokemanga artist...when he remembers proportions. Himeno and Ihara are also among the top.
-VizKids is NOT a bad place for Special because it's less violent than the Zelda comics in the same line and those come out fine.
-The habit the movie mangas have of killing off the bad guys (who all live in their films) is ridiculous and should stop

It seems to have stopped with Damon, who actually does survive in the manga even though it looks like he might die at one point.

That's only because it's probably already the most loyal adaptation to its source material yet even before the story reaches that point.

The Movie 16 adaptation is going to run into some issues with that if Giovanni is the villain...

Well they haven't done it in all of them. Butler, for instance, and Phantom. Vicious is still around where his ends (it's a half manga and only goes up to shortly after he captures Celebi), though given that it's the same artist who for some reason offed Jirarudan, or whoever the hell that was supposed to be that looked like Jirarudan (he acted NOTHING like his canon self and more like an early Jim Carrey character), it probably would look worse for Vicious than the actual movie did.

It seems to depend a lot on who's doing the comic. Heck, movie 7's adaptation ADDED a villain where none existed in the movie (for the record, the original villain lived). Or, one of the movie 7 adaptations anyway. The other one had Yuuko like in the film.


Also I really want to see what Ono could have done with the rest of movie 1. And Mewtwo Returns for that matter, though I have a feeling Domino would have been *cough* redesigned.

I think people overrate Pokemon Special, it does well with character development I admit but it ain't perfect either.

I agree, but I think that overrated is the wrong word. It just needs work with the pacing of the plots and needs to be more consistent with its own physics and universe.

Yeah I agree with this as well. I really like Pokemon Special and all and I'm fine for what it is, but it's not the best thing since sliced bread either. I do, however, really like what they do with all of their characters. I think things with characterization were a bit shaky at first, but Kusaka makes all of his main characters loveable and different in some way from each other.

Look at how frequently compared to the Anime. I guess because of how a lot of fans see the Anime with disdain, they're thrown off by how PokeSpe does things that they'd never expect from Pokemon (in a good way).

The more I think about it, how much of a pattern was there, really? As far as I know Annie and Oakley don't get killed off, Butler lives, Haruno the manga-exclusive Deoxys villain lives, Phantom lives, Damon lives. I think the only ones who die are Lawrence III, Zero, Marcus (whose death is completely changed to have him commit suicide instead of simply falling from the cliff) and Kodai.

Zero is an odd one, considering that pretty much the same scene existed in the movie only the epilogue showed he just fainted. And sadly I lack the movie 5 one entirely has if anyone here has any CoroCoros from that time and can check...

No one will shot daggers at you. I think only a few people will consider Pokemon Special perfect. Even I see flaws in the manga, that Kusaka could have done better. Most of the people just fall in love with the characters and how they grow and handle things. At least that counts for me.

That's true, but I didn't find the characters of RSE and beyond to be as interesting as the Kanto and Johto Dex Holders. I wonder why the Hoenn-Unova Dex Holders don't have titles. Didn't really see the point of them, just wondering.

I thought Dia, Pearl, and Platinum were great; on par with the Kanto/Johto cast. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Black and White on the other hand....not so much.

The more recent Pokedex holders are definitely more interesting than the older characters in my opinion, especially the DPPt trio. I loved those three together, too bad it all kinda went to hell when they split up though (and Pearl lost pretty much his entire personality). The replacing of the main characters doesn't bother me much at all, if I still had to read about the adventures of Blue/Yellow I would've given up on the book years ago. Their time has since long passed, and like the games I appreciate that we get brand new adventures to follow with each chapter.

To be honest, most of the older characters don't have much characterization beyond their stereotypes (again, Blue is a huge offender in this regard, as is Crystal who has absolutely no personality period). I think as time has gone on the book's gotten much better at fleshing out the main character's personalities. Like with Black, I love how on the surface he seems to be Red and Gold's hyperactive lovechild, but in reality he's actually a huge nerd who obsessively studies his training and battle skills and how to make them better. Such an interesting and underrated character, a lot like his game counterpart in that regard actually.

Perhaps it was because the whole thing was stupid and written solely to give Gold a Heroic BSOD and make the Kanto/Johto dexholder's personalities to be even more one-dimensional than they already were.

I agree on the Dia, Pearl, and Platinum part. As a trio I consider them the best interaction wise. They play off each others characters so well. The quiet but good natured Dia, the bossy hyperactive Pearl, and spoiled brat Platinum. I loved these three together. If/when we get a DP remake I hope to see them again. They had one of the wackiest adventures in a region XD

Yep I am beginning to love Black and quite dissapointed for Crystal doesn't have any time for her developement. And I agree with your opinion about one-dimensional persona caused by titles and quite stereotypical.

I never said Blue didn't have a personality. I said he doesn't have much outside of his "serious loner" stereotype. And yes I will objectively say Crystal has no personality, because I fail to see how--objectively--she has anything at all going for her. What is she exactly? She's nice...becomes a crazed lunatic whenever a new Pokemon capture is involved I guess. Doesn't really count as a personality point though as much as it does a plot device, she just acts however the plot demands her to at the time pretty much. Lol I mean it's so bad that after her "story arc" was done (which never really got a legit ending I might add) they just made her Professor Oak's assistant because there was literally nothing else they could do with her. What a lame character.

I like the idea of a Capture specialist, but I'm not a fan at all of how the character herself was handled, sorry. Also her team was seriously lame btw, it always bothered me how she was a Johto trainer yet had so many Kanto Pokemon. Maybe I'm crazy but yeah that just bugged me lol. You'd think a "capture specialist" would have a more varied team rather than using the exact Pokemon the entire story arc.

^You don't have to like it but "little personality" counts as something. Not trying to make a big deal out of it just stating what I see. But I'd rather not have this drag out to much.

And Johto never had much of its own Pokemon to begin with sadly.
