Default G/S/C Rules, FAQ and Help Thread

Welcome to the Gold/Silver/Crystal section! This sub-forum is just for those three games that hold a special place in many of our hearts. This thread has been rebooted, and contains the rules of the forum and FAQ about the games. You can also ask for specific advice or help here.

First, please read the section rules. Many people come here and break the same rules, so this should clear up the confusion. You are responsible for knowing and following these very basic guidelines.

    The G/S/C Rules and Regulations

    1. Follow all SPPf Rules. Read and know the General SPPf Rules, because it’s all the same stuff. This includes no flaming, double-posting, or advertising outside websites.

    2. Search before posting. Use the Search bar near the top of the page to see if your question has already been answered.

    3. Only talk about Gold, Silver and Crystal. This section is only for these 2nd generation games. Don’t talk about other games or make recommendations that aren’t accessible in G/S/C. HeartGold and SoulSilver are 4th generation games and don’t belong here, either.

    4. Do not discuss ROMS, emulators, cheat devices or codes. If you don’t have a legitimate copy of the games, don’t discuss it, and if you want to hack your game, don't discuss it.

    5. Do not bump threads. If the last post of a thread is from more than 30 days ago, do not respond to it. You may post a new version of the thread, but please leave dead threads dead.

    6. To get your in-game team rated, go here. Be sure to read the RMT Rules before posting.

That’s it. These rules are simple, and you are expected to follow them.

    Useful Threads

These threads answer some of the more popular questions we get here, so please read and use them. Since they are stickied, you may bump them.

    Legendary Pokémon
        Spoiler:- Obtaining the Legendary Pokémon:

    CELEBI:
You CAN NOT obtain Celebi in Gold, Silver or Crystal.

    • Celebi was ONLY available through an event in the Japanese versions of the games featuring Kurt and the GS Ball.
    • The only LEGIT way to get it in the English versions was at a Nintendo Event. These events were much like the current ones where rare Pokémon are given away. They don't do this for older games anymore. The event took place in July of 2001 and at Six Flags in September of 2001.
    • The only other way is by using a glitch within the game.

The "bad egg" glitch can also be used to get a Celebi, but it also risks glitching up your game. Please refer to the Official Glitch Thread for more information.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, or things you would like to see added to the FAQ, please don't hesitate!

    Ah, the nostalgia.

Oh btw, the Move Tutor who teaches Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and Ice Beam appear after you defeat the E4, not after defeating Red.

Oops, go figure! Though that is kind of odd, since I never beat Red in my old games but I don't recall ever seeing the Move Tutor. All well, thanks, consider it fixed!

Yup, I checked on Bulbapedia and it says after you enter the Hall of Fame.

And... It's on Wednesdays and Saturdays, not Sundays.

I guess this is for help.

My game file seems to be corrupted (Pokemon Gold), and it's not due to an internal battery error. At least, that's what I believe to be true, considering I replaced the battery mid July.

While playing Stadium 2 and transferring pokemon from cartridge to cartridge, an error came up that prompted me to remove my game cartridge. So I did, and the N64 freezes. Unable to load my game, I load Gold onto my SP and received the message "The save file is corrupted!" when loading my game.

Should I just restart or is there some method to retrieving the data?

If this is the wrong section, apologies. So far I've only seen threads for dead internal batteries rather than the issue i've run into.

Sorry to say this, but when a Generation I or II game gives you a message like that, there's really nothing you can do but restart. Starting in Generation III, the games keep a backup save in case of corruption, but before that, there was really no failsafe to prevent data loss...

Oh well, gave me an excuse to restart I suppose.

I have a question regarding Raikou, Entei and Suicune.
According to Bulbapedia, Roaming Pokémon retain a status ailment after fleeing - if I paralyse Entei during a battle, it should still be paralysed upon next encountering it. (Source: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wi...émon#Mechanics).
I am currently hunting the Trio in Pokémon Silver - and the above is not the case. Is Bulbapedia mistaken, am I reading it wrong or is something off about my game cartridge?
Hopefully, someone knows the answer. Please help!

I'm pretty sure Bulbapedia is right on that one. Are you sure the status isn't retained? Everything, including the amount of HP it lost and the status should be retained for the next battle.

I'm playing Gold on an emulator and I'm looking for Heracross. According to Bulbapedia, it only appears in Mountain Areas (Like Route 33 where I am now). However, I keep headbutting trees and I only find Spearows and Aipoms. Then I went back to Bulbapedia and it says Heracross only appears in "Special Trees" What constitutes a "Special Tree"?

    Default Fury Cutter help

As an attempt to evolve my Scyther, I deleted the move Fury Cutter he had in order to trade with my Red version to evolve Scyther. However, it didn't work, so I basically just deleted my Fury Cutter for good. Is there any way I can get another TM for Fury Cutter? Or, maybe, is there a way I can re-teach Fury Cutter to Scyther, now a Scizor?

Sadly not. The only way that you could have remedied this was by breeding the move onto a baby Scyther via a father that learns Fury Cutter by leveling up, but unfortunately no Pokemon learn the move through level up in GSC. Unless you have bred Fury Cutter onto other Pokemon prior to removing it from Scyther, the move has been lost for good.

Ah, such a shame, since it's probably the best bug-type move and will really work well in the e4, since it worked well with Scyther and now I have the Scizor with an enhanced attack. Hopefully my friend who I traded with to get Scizor still has his, so he can trade me a pokemon that's holding it...

EDIT: Hmm, only took me 2 hours but I got it again on my friend's non-saving Gold version

    Greetings!

I have a quick question- I've just come upon Lugia in Pokemon Crystal in the Whirl Islands!
And I'd like to try to get the Lugia to be SHINY! But I'm not sure if that is possible or not? Is Lugia predetermined to be Shiny or not when I start the game, or can I soft reset to try and get it Shiny??

    Hopefully someone knows! thanks

Yes its possible to get a shiny Lugia in Pokemon Crystal.
You would have to soft-reset it like any other Legendary.

Post The Elusive Heracross, Please help!

ok, i know in crystal heracross is crazy rare to find. but when i compare the 2nd gen pokedex of routes to find him to the pokeearth 2nd gen description of pokemon found on that route he is not shown (ex. it says he can be found on route 42 through trees but on the pokeearth list of pokemon in trees he isnt listed) could someone give me a specific route where i can for sure find heracross through blood, sweat, and tears headbutting??

Default Fixed DVs on errand Pokémon (?)

    Hello everybody

On the last months I have been focused on competitive Pokémon in the 2nd generation and there is something that I can't verify yet.

Do Entei, Raikou and Suicune have fixed DVs (IVs if you want) on these games?

I caught a Suicune with very low DVs and saved after that >_<
And I want to catch a Raikou with high DVs, I have weakened it already, but I don't know if the DVs are fixed when you start the game, or maybe with the first encounter...

    Does anybody knows about this?

Default How do you raise happiness in pokemon crystal?

In pokemon crystal, I've been trying to get an espeon and my eevee ,the one from Bill. It's at level 37 and I've given 5 vitamins. The lady in Golden Rod says
"It's friendly toward you. It looks sort of happy." Is there something I am doing wrong or do I need to do more.

I don't see why they would have fixed DVs.
