~ Chapter 2: First Steps ~

Skyler rushed up Jagged Pass, bounding up the edges and pushing through the grasses. His Treecko rushed with ease, climbing the edges with his lizard like speed. He would go far ahead of Skyler and then look back and wait for the trainer to catch up, the small kid was starting to grow on him. As they climbed many Pokémon were encountered, Ones that Treecko had never seen before that were from the far away region of Unova. He beat them with ease and had no problems until he came face to face with a wild pig, its Psychic attacks were too much for the small grass type and he ended up retreating so his fellow Sandshrew could fight it. Eventually Skyler ended up catching the small pig adding it to his team and making Treecko mad, ‘how dare he catch a Pokémon that would embarrass me!’ the Pokémon thought to himself.

“We are almost to the top! The heat coming from the magma is stronger than ever!” Skyler said happily to Treecko who was obviously pissed at him. The trainer and his Pokémon continued to climb, excited about getting to see his first bed of lava.

Meanwhile….

A girl with long blond hair stood over the opening to the volcano, a small white Pokémon with a green head stood next to her hugging her legs. “It’s ok little guy, it’s just lava” she said down to her Pokémon. She was amazed at the size of the Volcano stretching below her as she had never seen anything like this in her life. “This is the reason why we are traveling!” She said down to her Pokémon who squealed, still a little frightened at the heat. Suddenly, the Pokémon gripped its trainer closer as a man approached them from behind. “What’s wrong?” She said quickly whipping around to see a man standing very close behind her.

“Now why would a pretty girl like you stand so close to something so dangerous?” The man said with a cackle. The girl could hardly see the man’s face as it was covered in darkness by a hood; he was wearing what looked to be a monk’s robe that was completely black with splashes of grey and white crescent shapes dotted around it. “It would be very said if you were to… slip.” A smile flashed across his face. Ralts gripped his trainer very tight, scared of something bad happening to his trainer. “Now if only you would hand over your money, Pokémon and supplies, you might get away with your life.”

The girl looked down at Ralts and then back up at the man, “No one is taking anything away from me!” She shouted at the strange man.

“Well then we have a problem!” He reached down into his robe pocket and pulled out a dusk ball. “Come on out Sableye!” He threw the ball into the air and suddenly a Pokémon entirely made of shadows appeared in front of the girl. “Take out this pest!” The Sableye rushed at the girl, its claws shining and ready to slash the girl’s flesh.

Ralts shrieked and jumped in front of its trainer taking the hit and falling to the ground, getting knocked out. “No!” The girl cried picking up her Pokémon.

“Ready to surrender?” The man asked his Sableye smiling with pleasure at its power at his side.

“Never!” She shouted in response and pulled out a Pokeball of her own. “Marshtomp come on out!” The mud fish Pokémon appeared at her side, ready to battle this evil trainer and his Sableye
