Chapter 14 - Paragon Cave; Curiosity Killed The Granbull
Jay and Murdock looked up towards another archway, a murky, dusty brown archway. Engraved on the curved stone structure read 'Terrafirma City - The city that quakes'. Jay, Murdock and Eevee all entered through the hollow door and into the vast foggy landscape, elegant black oil lamps hanged from house to house, whilst to the east city folk were rushing around, like scavengers. Most of the houses were round, with a chestnut brown, cone like roof.
"Tremendous, isn't it?" Murdock asked, gazing at the city's beautiful lights. "Come on! Lets get our Pokemon checked out at the Pokemon centre!"
Murdock traveled around the bustling city, leading Jay and Eevee to a Pokemon centre. The centre stood out from most of the city as it was very modern, were as the houses and the market was all very historical, yet with a modern twist too.
Both trainers entered the bright pink centre where nurse Joy was waiting for visitors.
"Hello, would you like a check up?" She asked.
Jay smiled, like she knew what he was thinking, 'Yes!" He shouted uncontrollably.
Murdock stared at Jay in shock, and gave a comical expression, Eevee also just giggled to herself as she knew Jay's voice always increases in volume when he's either nervous or excited.
'Ahem,' Jay added, embarrassed. 'Yes please...' He then just gave an extremely awkward smile.
'Okay...' Nurse Joy replied, confused. 'Ummm, just stick your Pokemon in their pokeballs and hand them to me, however you might have to wait until tomorrow to receive them as a lot of trainers ran into some trouble along white road, and the place has just been soooo busy!' She then shrugged it off and smiled.
'Oh yes, well, um we understand," Murdock mumbled.
'Yeah, that's fine! Come on Eevee! In your Pokeball!'
Both trainers handed over the capsules to nurse Joy, in the corner of Jay's eyes he could see that Murdock handed over two Pokeballs, he honestly thought Murdock only had one Pokemon.
"You have two Pokemon Murdock?" Jay curiously asked.
Murdock's face began to grow bright, like a beet root, "Well, yea haha! But, he doesn't really like me to be honest, I don't know...' Murdock's deep brown eyes wondered, 'actually, he probably doesn't need a checkup as he hasn't been out for ages...'
Nurse Joy's eyebrows raised, 'very well.'
She then took both trainers Pokemon and walked into the back. Jay and Murdock has a rest on the sofas that were available to them in the Pokemon centre. The dim light above their heads shone and gazed down on them, the leather couches gripped their clothes as they sat whilst a radio radiated from the cheap rusty speakers that were situated in the corners of the centre, creating pointless and unimportant background noise.
'So why doesn't your Pokemon like you Murdock?" Jay asked, curious to know why a Pokemon would dislike their trainer.
"Well, he um... Just never listens to me..."
"What Pokemon is it?"
"He's called Granbull... And to be honest, he's quite scary haha!"
"Oh Murdy... Wanna go have a look at the market?"
"Oh my, teabags!"
Jay and Murdock both left the Pokemon centre and headed for the Terrafirma market located in the middle of the town, small stands surrounded themselves around each other forming a market circle. Old Christmas lights dangled from stand to stand to light up the murky atmosphere whilst cheerful chirps of shoppers bustled around the market place looking for cheap deals and rare bargains.
Jay and Murdock savaged around, browsing the stools.
"Herbal tea? Cookie tea? Oran tea? They all look so scrumptious!" Murdock excitedly giggled to himself while he browsed the herbal stand.
Jay was having a look at the opposite stand parallel to Murdock, looking at some charms made from natural substances. Two buyers were browsing right next to Jay, he could hear snippets of their conversation. He pretended to look even more interested in the merchandise whilst he ear dropped.
"Paragon cave is completely out of bounds..." The old man said talking to his beloved wife.
"Oh dear, why's that honey?" The old woman replied looking at a necklace with a small silver caltrop charm situated on the rope.
"I'm not entirely sure, but there's some weirdos wearing odd clothes blocking the way in."
Jays ears picked up this information, as he had a feeling he knew who the old man was on about.
"Hm, well didn't you say anything?"
"Yes, I asked why us visitors were not allowed to enter..."
"They said that the caves unstable and it's for our safety."
The old woman rolled her eyes as she inspected the jewellery even more.
"Oh my, they are always doing construction in there! Well anyway, I couldn't be more interested dear, but this necklace isn't going to pay for itself..."
Jay quickly scurried back over to Murdock, who was scratching his fluffy yellow hair.
"I'll take the Oran tea please!" Murdock told the woman behind the stand, smiling.
"Murdock! We have to go to Paragon cave, I have a feeling something bad is going on over there!"
"Owww, but I just baught some teabags!" Murdock whined.
Jay easily convinced Murdock and they both headed upwards towards the towns cave. Walking through the streets, Jay and Murdock didn't even realise how dark it was getting, they slowly made their way towards the entrance of the cave, a rugged wooden bridge built above a river was the entrance within. The cave itself seemed to be on a small separate island only joined by the rusting, wobbly bridge.
"What are we doing here Jay?" Murdock asked.
"I'm not really sure Murdock, it's just something doesn't feel right."
"So then why are we going in there?"
Murdock had a point, what would be the point in exploring something that was supposedly out of bounds, however Jay's curiosity was in no way shape or form hesitant.
"Come along Murdy," Jay gleefully said, trying to enlighten his mood.
Murdock sighed, he then followed Jay across the river shaking as the bridge shook itself.
The cave itself had little fairy lights dangled to the walls, making it clear and bright within, pale brownness surrounded them as tyhe entered and cracks and ruggedness caught their eyes. The traveled down and multiple passages came clearly visible, six of them to be exact, all surrounding them.
"Which one do we um, take?" Murdock asked.
"I think I can hear something coming from this way..." Jay pointed to the east tunnel, "Come on!"
Both trainers hurried towards the tunnel, Murdock not as eager as Jay. It soon came obvious that what Jay heard was voices, croaky, arrogant voices. As both trainers sneakily came to the end of the tunnel, they could spot two characters, talking to each other. They both hid behind a murky rock near the exit and peeped their curious eyes towards the characters, Jay could recognise one of them, it was Lexy, commander of the Mareep happenings all the way back at route one.
"I have a bad feeling about this Jay, can't we just go back and make a cuppa tea?" Murdock whispered.
"Shhhh, I can hear them!"
Both figures were standing next to each other, on their own with the absence of grunts. Fairy lights scattered around them creating a beaming and radiating glow that shone around the cave like a stadium.
"I know you miss me."
Lexy flung her vermillion hair out of her face, with a uninterested look upon upon it.
"I don't miss anything Hatter..."
Hatter laughed in a patronising manner, "Don't try and deny it, I can see it on your pale lonely face!"
"Why are you even here?"
"The boss asked me to come because she doesn't trust you Lexy, you're an idiot if I'm being honest."
Lexy's head looked down, in almost shame, and the lifted back up seconds later, in a revengeful nature.
"Haha! That's funny, I seem to have already found the weapon, you on the other hand are just some washed up Mr.Mime that likes to follow me around!"
"You're nothing without me, madam will only believe you acquired the weapon because I accompanied you. Remember when you was small, and you had no one to go to? Who was there Lexy? When you was out in the cold who took you in and fed you, clothed you! Even bloody bathed you!? WHO WAS IT!? WHO DO YOU RELY ON!?"
Hatter spitted his words, growing more angry with every breath he took, Lexy just wiped her mascara from her eyes, they ran like sorrow constellations, looking for stars to hide upon.
"I don't deserve this, you only wanted one thing from me."
Hatter slowly leaned forward into Lexy's clear skinned face and rubbed her tears,
Lexy quickly hesitated and then turned away, wiping another tear from her dazzling eye.
Murdock and Jay observed closely, Murdock went to lean his hand on a rock, but accidentally missed and fell, causing echoing noise. They had been spotted. Murdock and Jay stood up from behind the boulder, causing Lexy's face to transcend into a shocked expression.
"Do I know you?" She asked.
"Um, no..." Jay replied, scared she might recognise him.
"WHO CARES!?" Hatter shouted, "They were being rude and ears dropping on us!
Lexy then realised that both trainers opposite her had heard the whole conversation, to Lexy this was embarrassing.
Lexy swivelled her luscious hair and threw a Pokeball into the air, "Go Metang!"
An iron blue, mechanical monster levitated through the air, beaming red eyes glared at Jay as Metang's six daggers opened and closed.
Murdock's face dropped, he has suddenly realised him and Jay had no Pokemon on hand, they were all at the Pokemon centre, all except Murdock's stubborn Granbull.
"Great idea Lexy, teach these ignorant fools a lesson, out you come Bisharp!" Hatter proclaimed.
A humanoid figure with metallic knifes for hands stood up intimidatingly, fixing its evil eyes upon Murdock.
"Murdock! We have no Pokemon!?" Jay attempted to whisper.
"I know Jay," Murdock replied, just as frightened. "Come on out, Granbull!"
Murdock released his pink, strong jawed, dog like Pokemon. Granbull kicked its upper legs on the air shaking its eager head, not interested in the happenings at hand.
