Another reason as to why LoL threads die out aside from inactivity/no interest: I already see obvious thread derailment happening in here. -.-

Then again, I will admit two people aren't enough to keep this thread alive. Even if a few lurkers like me and ゾロア say something in here, it still won't be enough.
Anyway, *shrug* a tourney won't be possible unless there's a huge group of participants. I'd go for it, but I've been busy with college lately.

Doesn't it give you an enormous tutorial in the beginning?

That's basically all you need to know, as far as basic strategy goes pick one character and stick with them for a while. Just stay in the back of the lane and last hit minions to farm levels until you're fairly high, then go take down the towers and rush the rest of their base.

Aside from being provided a tutorial, once you have gotten the basics down where you stay behind your minions, take out the enemy team's minions through last-hitting, and take down towers (and the enemy's nexus, obviously), there are a few more advanced tactics to learn as you continue playing through. Examples being how to engage in team fights, building the correct items on whichever champion you choose to play (both offensive items and defensive items; you don't really need to follow the recommended builds exactly, but they do sometimes help), being aware that there are traditionally five roles that make up a team, how every champion has his or her counters, etc. Of course, every champion is quite unique, and depending on your tastes of which type of champion you want to pick up, they may have a short or long learning curve (some use skill shots while others don't, and aiming with skill shots require decent accuracy).



Speaking of which, I was able to find a link that can prove useful for those who like to have better chances of winning.
