I believe that if you're able to handle other people's opinion and criticism, then you should be allowed to post on a internet forum.

Lol, lying will always happen.
When I was like 9 I lied and put my age as 13 when I joined Neopets.
I regret nothing.
Although, that was Neopets and nothing explicit was slipping through the cracks there.
I enjoy Serebii and all the innuendo lurking around.
T E A M 'M U R I C A
I joined Serebii Forums when I was 8. Let's look back at history and see what I was like when I first discovered, "forums".
My first ever post
My first ever club.
Trying to predict the English names of the 4th Gen Pokemon.
My first ever comic.
My first ever forum game.
As you can see, I was a bit of a noob at first but I did just fine. I think it's more of on how intelligent you are, rather than your age.
I find age to be a silly and cheap way for people to judge others. I've known how to use a computer since I was 3, and I played my first online game when I was about 7-8. Until then, I knew how to play most PC games with CD's.
Because I spent so much time on the internet since I was 8, I've gained knowledge and learned to understand things on the level of adult knowledge. Age is not what matters in a person, it's how they behave and their general maturity. You could have an 8 year old with the brain age of a 67-year-old, which basically means the 8 knows anything that a 67 would.
More related to the subject at hand, I joined my first forum when I was 9. And funnily enough, I didn't even act like most 12-year-old COD players.
As I posted, my grammar and spelling got better. I began to write fanfics in 2010, and people will continue to develop no matter what, whether they live a virtual life or a real one.

Spoiler:- Everything Shiny!:
You're completely right about that, it was definitely different 10-20 years ago. Example, I got my first cell phone when I was in my 2nd year of college. Yes, I was 19 years old, imagine that. When I was in high school, there were less than 10 people that owned them. Nowadays, if you don't have a cell phone in school, you're a total reject, and you get bullied.
I support the fact that websites put in an age restriction. I know that it's easy to lie, but then again, it's a parent's job to monitor this stuff. And I've seen parents actually creating their 10 year old's Facebook page. And then, those children turn around and "friend" their parents friends. What does that teach the child? That it's ok to break the rules and lie.
I was already a teenager by the time the Internet made its way to my area (that's what happens when you live in the boonies) and the things I did back then (at 15 years old) were totally irresponsible, and if I could go back, I would never do half the things I did.
While we may not agree with it, age restrictions are put in place for a reason.
I understand what you are saying. The thing is i think it's ok to post on forums as long as you can contribute and you can take criticism. I mean don't let really young kids post, but from a sutible age. Other things like facebook i think there should be an age limit. I know people who got it when they were 10 or 11. i'm 14 and i still don't have it. I don't really like the idea, nut with everyone else on it you sort of get left out.
Is that a bad thing?
I think they shouldn't be denied because people think kids are too young to be being on open public forums, but I think there should be an age restriction because of immature little kids thinking they are pro-trolls or something, not that that will change anything because they lie about it anyways.
But he's not (technically we are all animals, though, but not in your perspective of the word). And I'm pretty sure that you saying 99% of the internet is pictures of animals is a pure lie.

There isn't much you can do to keep children off the internet by putting age restrictions on things since they can easily be bypassed most of the time.
You can't judge someone's maturity or responsibility from their age, at least not with teenagers. And adults could be immature and irresponsible too.
So there is a lot of inappropriate stuff for kids on the web, but the internet is also a great place to learn. Because I know that I learnt a lot from the internet and by being on Serebii. I was twelve when I joined here and it was absolutely horrendous. I went and posted terrible sprite artwork, couldn't take criticism, got into some discussion with someone and my posts hurt to look at with all the mistakes and capitals everywhere. (At least I wasn't a troll.) But the internet is how learnt English, which is not my native language. I have a lot of knowledge from reading around here and today, two and a half years later, I still feel like I have some advantage over other people in my class that are actually older than me. And that's thanks to things I've read and come across on the internet over the years. I'm better at taking criticism nowadays, too. Hopefully.
Still, age restrictions should be there in some cases, absolutely at sites with explicit content. And even when anyone can lie about it, it's at least a warning. It's ridiculous that some parents just let really young children on the internet, though..

I can see advatages and disadvantages to it. I mean, it could keep people safe and all that crap, but sometimes some of the smartest comments come from some of the younger people.

It's all about majority. If you're going to spam and troll, you deserve to get banned regardless if you're 8 or 23.
Also, the mods need to seriously edit posts that have bypassed the censors. There are 4 year old who come here.
We can all agree that the second generation was either Pokémon's Golden Age or its Silver Age.
Black and White gave me a theory that the Pokémon world and the Mother world are one in the same.
Werster is without a doubt the Pokémon Master.
i would argue that there are much worse things than the occasional curse word that a 4 year old can be exposed to on the internet. see: just about any fandom. 4 is way too young for the internet. i think kids shouldn't really be using the internet unsupervised until they're 12 or 13.
