Chapter Seven: Virizion and Cobalion! Encounters of Legendary Proportions!
“Cobal, Cob! Cobalion!”
“Ducklett, come back!”
“Viri!”
Purple was running into Pinwheel Forest. Little did he know that he was about to take sight of two of the infamous legendary Pokemon of Unova.
He slowed down when he came across the entrance. Tons of Pokemon were standing around the entrance and just inside. He could see his Ducklett flying past some wild Petilil and Cottonee. Trees covered the entire forest. Some places in the forest were even inaccessible. Logs had been put there to connect one part to another.
He could see the wild Pokemon battling. Shelmet and Karrablast were duking it out. The Pokemon he didn’t expect to see- ever- were standing right in front of him. Virizion and Cobalion were standing in the clearing.
Purple’s Ducklett went over and started to talk to them. This obviously scared them. The two legendary Pokemon left Pinwheel Forest before Purple could even scan them on his Pokedex.
“Land over there, Rufflet.”
Purple asked, “Why did you fly in here, Ducklett?”
“Your Ducklett obviously felt the presence of the legendary Pokemon,” the boy from the plane and museum said as he walked up to him. “Thank you, Rufflet. You can take a rest.” The boy put Rufflet in his Poke Ball and continued walking up to Purple. Purple didn’t know what it was, but something was ominous about this guy.
The guy continued, “Ducklett was obviously raised well. I saw how Ducklett came out of its Poke Ball on its own to see them. My Rufflet was already out, and he didn’t even sense them. That’s really saying something about the compassion you have towards your Pokemon. Kudos to you.
“Th-thank you! You can return too, Ducklett.” Ducklett did so, and then the guy continued on.
He continued to add, “The reason they were here is because… something bad is about to happen to the entire Unova region. I’ve been forewarning people, but I can’t reach the entire region. Let me explain.”
He explained the story. According to the legends he heard as a child, Cobalion is the leader of the Muskedeers- a nickname given to them since they represent the Three Musketeers and kind of look like deer. Muskedeers live in three key points in Unova. Virizion lives in Pinwheel Forest, Cobalion lives in Mistralton Cave, and Terrakion lives in Victory Road.
“So, why was Cobalion here? This is Virizion’s domain,” Purple stated and asked.
“That’s the thing. The Muskedeers can sense trouble. Cobalion is the leader, so he came here to recruit Virizion because he knows Unova is in danger. My guess is that their next rendezvous will be Victory Road to recruit Terrakion,” he furthered.
“And that danger is Veronica, right?”
“That’s my thought, also. The only way we can stop her is to get to Terrakion before Virizion and Cobalion. If we do, we can convince it to help. If it helps, the other two will too! The only downside is-“
“-that we will both need eighth badges to get into Victory Road,” Purple finished.
“Precisely.”
“Karra!”
“Shelm!”
The Karrablast and Shelmet who were fighting before were now falling downhill towards the two boys.
“Go, Poke Ball!”
The unnamed boy threw a Poke Ball at the Shelmet. All that was left was Shelmet’s silhouette. Shelmet was absorbed into the Poke Ball. Karrablast looked around awkwardly, probably wondering where its sparring partner had gone.
“I caught a Shelmet. Hmm, nice! Purple, you should catch that Karrablast!”
“Okay, go, Oshawott!”
Oshawott appeared before their eyes. Karrablast just looked at the two boys. Karrablast started spinning in circles, horn starting to glow.
“I don’t know what that is, but use Aqua Jet to knock it out of spinning!”
A veil of water splashed onto Oshawott. Oshawott swam through the air, covered in the veil of water. The cerulean tube of water hit Karrablast and did knock it out of the spin like Purple wanted.
Karrablast wasn’t happy, however. Karrablast outlined itself in yellow and rammed itself into Oshawott. The Otter Pokemon flew back and landed in the grassy dirt of the Pinwheel Forest. Karrablast landed back to where it had previously stood, but this time it was bending over from recoil damage.
Purple threw the Poke Ball, and, just like Shelmet, Karrablast had been caught.
The ominous but informative boy threw Rufflet’s Poke Ball into the air to release it. Rufflet flapped its wings and came down. He grabbed Rufflet’s talons and started to fly off.
“Oh, and Purple, my name is G-“
The cry of Virizion cut off his sentence. By the time Purple could hear again, the boy was gone. Virizion wanted everyone to know that it was leaving the forest.
“Oh, well. On to the Skyarrow Bridge!”
While Purple was catching up with Ducklett and actually catching Karrablast, Brittany was under attack.
“Snivy, please defend me!”
Brittany was under attack by a wild Riolu! The Floccesy Ranch wasn’t as peaceful as she had thought.
“Snivy, use your Leaf Tornado!”
Snivy maneuvered its tail in the same way it had at the Aspertia City Gym. Riolu was sucked up just like predicted. What Brittany didn’t predict were Riolu’s amazing skills.
“Snivy, use your Vine Whip to stop it from leaving! I’m determined to catch it now!”
Riolu had already used its Quick Attack and Force Palm attacks to scatter all of the leaves. Snivy’s vines wrapped around Riolu’s black and blue body. Under Brittany’s command, Snivy threw Riolu into the air and Iron Tailed it into the dust.
“Here goes nothing. My first capture!” Brittany threw the Poke Ball. She was on edge more than anyone. She had never made a capture before, and she was so scared that it would fail.
The Poke Ball tinkered around three times and clicked.
“I… actually… captured a Riolu!”
She grabbed the Poke Ball and hugged her Snivy.
“Thank you and congrats, Snivy,” she congratulated.
When she thought her problems were solved, her eyes caught glimpse of the Pokemon of her dreams.
“I must have you! You are the most adorable Pokemon I have ever seen! Riolu, use Force Palm on it!”
The Emanation Pokemon ran on its tip toes across the ranch. Riolu’s palm glowed a light yellow and hit the Polka Dot Pokemon. When it made contact to the blue stomach, it unleashed the powerful after-effect of Force Palm, a strong beam that causes paralysis.
The little, blue Pokemon bounced on the ground, unconscious.
“Go, Poke Ball!”
This time, when the ball hit and started rolling, it popped back open. The Polka Dot Pokemon used Bubble on Riolu and Snivy both. Both slid back a few feet back, but no real damage was done.
Riolu hit it with a Quick Attack, and Brittany threw another Poke Ball at it. Starting to feel like a failure, Brittany was really hoping it would work this time.
It worked.
“That was some nice work,” and old man said when he walked up to Brittany. “I can see that you are disappointed in yourself for taking two times to capture that Azurill. Don’t be. I used to be the champion of the Unova Region, and I still can’t catch everything in one hit. Your Pokemon- Snivy, Riolu, and Azurill- all want to train hard with you. I see it in their eyes.”
Meanwhile, in Sinnoh…
“Cynthia, something is wrong! The researchers at each lake- Verity, Valor, and Acuity- are reporting that the legendary Pokemon are waking up and leaving their lakes. Something is wrong. I need you to investigate!”
“Okay, Grandma Carolina. I’m on it.” Cynthia hung up her Pokegear. “That’s weird. The pixies haven’t come out of their respected lakes since the Dialga and Palkia event, and that happened years ago. Well, I guess this is a champion’s duty after all.”
She climbed into her car and went straight toward Mt. Coronet, the location in which the pixies were headed.
