They cared somewhat in Sinnoh. With the exception of Buizel and Gible every pokemon evolved to final stage and all demonstrated their power(even torterra) and even then the 2 proved their worth.

Did you even watch the Hoenn League? He used only 6 ond got to the top 8! Even in the Sinnoh league the writers gave one day gap between each of Ash's matches.

No I think some of Ash's other Pokemon and Trip's should get to show what they're made of too and Serpeerior all the time. That gets boring to the point of using Charizard in every league. I'm so glad he never overused it.

this assumes of course that trip will definatly battle Ash in this tournament they could pull what they did with Gary and Ash in the first league and have them not battle till the next major tournament.

In terms of the two completed teams concept, that means Ash should catch one more so it can be something like:
Pikachu, Pignite, Snivy, Boldore, Palpitoad, Unfezant
Pikachu, Krookdile, Oshawott, Scraggy, Leavanny, New pokemon
Based off his current team, I tried my best to split up Snivy, Oshawott, and Scraggy since they are all unevolved at the moment.. I can kind of see Oshawott sitting out the battle against Trip, and just letting Snivy star as the unevolved Pokemon holding her own against his team. It would be wayyyy too much to see a team of Oshawott, Snivy, and Scraggy on the same team against Trip.
I feel like we also never saw a league 6 on 6 battle with 3 unevolved Pokemon on the same team at once.. (not counting ones that can't evolve like Torkoal.)

Round 1- Double Battle
Round 2- Triple Battles
Round 3- 3 vs 3
Round 4- Tag Battle (it would be a new way for the league to test a persons skill by having them work with eachother)
Semi-finals- 6 vs 6
Finals- Pick whatever mode of battlers the two finalist prefer
I know this seems kinda farfetched but it seems kinda reasonable with all the new modes of battle this generation, and hey, I can dream right?

I doubt triple battles will happen so all of a sudden! It would be probably like the double battles-performances for Dawn. An introduction episode and than involve her into the competitive part .

I doubt that we'll get any Triple Battle. They're quite difficult to handle and can be quite chaotic.
Depending of the number of participants, I think the League will have a similar pattern:
Preliminaries: 1v1
1st Round: Double Battle or 1v1
2nd Round: 3v3
3rd Round: 3v3
Quarters of final: 6v6
Semifinals: 6v6
Finals: 6v6

Well, I was really hoping Bel improved a lot since we last saw her, I really wanted her to bring her to reach a new level at the league and have another actual battle between Ash and her, its been a while and last we saw of her she was getting a little better.
I'll simply be shocked if none of his new rivals win the league, he beats them all than randomly Trip or Bel winXD I guess they could always pull a Gary with Trip and have him travel to the next region have Ash finally beat him in the next league for the win, every ones least favorite rival gets to go to the next region.

If there are double battles in the league, I wonder if Virgil will be using Eevee, since he's got all the helping and supporting moves. I would like to see some interesting combination with the Eeveelutions like Espeon and Leafeon or Vaporeon, some of the Eeveelution that really needs more screentime (Galceon was with Cynthia, Umbreon got all the hype in BW004).
