He was an extreme character who (1) we saw just enough of without being sick of them and (2) knew how to turn it off when it was unnecessary. I only wish he won more.

I vote Dawn. But I need to remind one difference between Dawn and May.
-Dawn planned her performance. And we saw training (sometimes annoying and repetitive) multiple times into the series. Almost always wins by points. I don't see any DEM wins for her.
-May trained... (I saw May training) but May didn't have techniques to win except on a handful episodes. I'm going to remember that May does combinations with the ASSIST attack that does generate RANDOM attacks. May almost always wins for KOs. Not to mentions that May has deus-ex machina battles.
And Dawn has a lot of development to Ash's character.. May has little influence by Ash. The infamous Counter-Shield is almost a contest technique.

Harley, he may be a punching bag but he's downright hilarious. May is runner-up since her contests wasn't so boring like Dawn's.XP

It's a tricky choice between Dawn, May and Drew but I would went for Dawn anyway, she's been my favourite for a while and I love her Piplup!
I think that her appeal rounds are amazing too, and her contests!

Dawn of course. The creativity in her appeals was astounding and she worked really well with Ash to develop new techniques. She also showed the most improvement out of all coordinaters. Going from a total noob losing in the appeals twice in a row to making it to the finals of the Grand Festival and only losing by a hair (and plot). Plus Dawn always wore pretty dresses which really showcased her elegance in battle.
