    Post Pokemon Extinction

Since Pokemon are based off of Animals, Plants etc...Is it possible for Pokemon to go extinct?

It can and has happened. That's why Fossil Pokemon can only be acquired by reviving them from fossils.

And through reviving, previously extinct pokemon have become re-tinct.

"Re-tinct." I love it. Or perhaps it should be "intinct." :P

Right, but it's undeniable proof that Pokemon can become extinct.

On the subject of extinction, can it be assumed that non-fossil Pokémon have never become extinct within the reality of the Pokémon universe? (Note that I say "reality" and not "continuity".)

Or a mammoth Pokémon... wait a second...

In other words, just because a Pokémon is based on a real-life organism that became extinct before its creation doesn't mean that the Pokémon became extinct before the time of the games that it was implemented in.

Yeah, I know, hence the "wait a second..."

But yeah, Mamoswine is the prime example that I was noting. It can't be assumed that just because Mamoswine is based on an animal that was extinct before the creation of Diamond and Pearl that Mamoswine had been extinct before the time in which Diamond and Pearl are set.

Well actually, Relicanth was never extinct, it was just believed to be extinct and is unchanged much like it's real-life counter-part

Remember there are many dinosaur-like pokemon such as Tropius, 4/5 of the grass starters so basing pokemon on extinct animals is a fairly common case.

Yes, I know that many Pokémon are based on already-extinct organisms. But to say that those Pokémon definitely were extinct before the time in which the current Pokémon games are set in because their real-life counterparts were extinct before the Pokémon game series existed is erroneous.

Parachomp is right but Genesect just looks more artificial.
