Like anime subbed or dubbed? ~ Where the concept of Uncut DVDs still hasn't sank in.

I prefer subbed because it still holds to the original meaning of the creators. With dubbing comes attempts at localization which remove some of the context of a story.

If the anime is made in both I like to watch it dubbed first so I have some fun watching it, then maybe watch it subbed. I don't really watch much anime that's not Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, but even they have a huge difference watching the japanese version, especially YuGiOh. Some people won't watch subbed, which is really annoying, I've been trying to get a friend to watch the original YuGiOh (season zero or the shadow games or whatever).

358 episodes and 5 movies. If you watched 1 episode (if a movie were to count as an episode) per day, you'd finish in a year. As for the manga, it's still going.

The changes make perfect sense and I accept them. The problem I have is that they don't suit the tone. Like I mentioned before, I prefer the dub to the sub.

That "weirdness" varies between different dubs and how much they edit, and one can feel it going from a dub to a sub. If you're used to it one way, watching a part of the show in another language will provide some type of weirdness/awkwardness, but not necessarily that much. It depends on how different the second watched version is.

The weirdness could be extremely great at first. I remember hating the voices in the Clannad dub at first after watching it in Japanese for so long, but after a while they grew into their roles and improved on their acting. They started to sound great when it really mattered, which is amazing for a low budget dub. I still prefer the original for obvious reasons, but the dub no longer sounds all that weird to me anymore.

I must say that I prefer subbed anime.

Although I give credit where credit is due, the Pokemon second gen Dub team has gotten to an acceptable level.

Also, I found Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist(2003 series) quite passable as well.

You do know there are a bunch of different Japanese accents and terms that are generally used in certain regions, right? Using anime as a way to brush up on Japanese vocabulary isn't exactly a bright idea if you didn't know that.

I pick dubbed over anything else, though I am fine if they're subbed/dubbed. Idk, I've grown accustomed to hearing english voices now over japanese voices.. I don't like to read the subs because you might miss an important part that happens (like little things that happen and you miss which might be significant later in the story).

But I am really just fine with both!

Steam Boy was on TV today but it was on a French channel. I actually find this helps as there's France French (which is pronounced smoothly) and then there's Quebec French (which is pronounced quickly with slang). They did use more Quebecois though but it worked very well.

The original voices are better, but there's some anime that the dub version is good, like Code Geass.

When watching my anime, I prefer subs. Some dubs can ruin the anime (let us not forget the infamous dub of One Piece), and others just seem to ruin a joke if it's rooted in the Japanese language. Oh, and I like subs so I can sing along with the catchy opening and ending themes. You would probably understand how fun this is.
