So I think you also mean putting up a diverse team with different types.
My best team for Ash would be.
    Pikachu
    Swellow
    Charizard
    Sceptile
    Krookodile
Snorlax/ Heracross, I just cannot chose.

Usually Ash brings also a watertype with him, but all of Ash his waterpokemon do'nt convince me that much. maybe Kingler, but he hasn't been seen or been trained for a long time.

    Pikachu
    Charizard
    Snorlax
    Glalie
    Gliscor/Gible
    Leavanny

^decent type coverage imo. Glalie for the Dragon's, Gliscor's movepool is diverse enough while Gible's Dragon typing would be great (if only it had a bit more training), and if Leavanny would just get a better movest (Leaf Blade/X-Scissor/Shadow Claw) he'd be ready...!

    OR, something more typical:

    Pikachu
    Charizard
    Heracross
    Sceptile
    Infernape
    Krookodile

    Tah-dah.

    Pikachu - Obvious
    Charizard - Again, obvious
Infernape - Might seem redundant with Charizard, but Infernape gets rid of the Rock weakness whole Charizard doesn't have the Ground weakness
Snorlax - Always been Ash's trump card
Sceptile - Deals with the Water, Rock, and Ground types that the rest of the team struggles with
Donphan - Pikachu and Sceptile deal with Water types, Charizard and Infernape deal with Grass and Ice Types, giving Donphan free reign

    Pikachu
    Charizard
    Infernape
    Snorlax
    Sceptile
    Krookodile

My only issue with Charizard and Infernape is that they're both fire types, but I remember the league rival had two fire types against Ash in the top 8, and beat Ash... Kotetsu had two water types and still won..

Merged the thread with the existing "all-stars" thread. The additional condition that Pikachu needs to be part of the team alone doesn't warrant a separate thread, sorry.

The obvious 5, then one of Squirtle, Da Krook, Gliscor, whatever.

I'm an Infernape fan - probably the best Pokemon character in the series, even including Meowth - but you might have to drop him because of the whole "two fire Pokemon" problem.

    Pikachu- duh.
Glalie- always seemed to be Ash's powerhouse in Hoenn.
Sceptile- second strongest of Ash's Pokémon. Plus grass isn't too shabby.
Donphan- was his trump in the Battle Frontier.
Quilava- while not kf the same strength as the other two flames, it has kt's own strength.
Pidgeot- damn bird come back already D:

I don't understand why Krookodile is on so many lists. You can be fully evolved and a giant but that doesn't make you a powerhouse. He's not as impressive as the powerhouses Ash has had before Unova. He's strong but not one of his strongest.

I have to agree with Dax; why is Krookodile on so many lists? He hasn't even been around long enough to have a legacy and quite honestly, he's not as powerful as some people think. He's only won 63% of his battles under Ash's ownership; that's less than even Boldore's win percentage. I'm just really confused.

Because the 3 wins it got were very high caliber.

    Dragonite
    Sawk
    Liepard

were all very powerful pokemon compared to the chumps pokemon like Oshwott beat to inflate their record.

I wouldn't call Dragonite an amazing win since Dragonite was too busy rampaging around the stadium to face Krookodile and Sawk wasn't really an accomplishment for the croc since Leavanny had to do all the job so Krookodile could defeat it. Liepard however was a great battle but being so tired after defeating the feline speaks lots about Krookodile's lack of endurance.

He's nowhere near the likes of Infernape, Charizard, Sceptile, Snorlax, Pikachu, Swellow, Heracross, etc...

And I don't understand the mention of Oshawott. It's an irrelevant comment in this conversation.
