So I called one of the Toys R Uses that I didn't look at that's at a different mall a little further away than the other two I went to, but they didn't even have video games there ("yet"). I called the one I normally go to that I've now checked twice, but was told they were out of stock and wouldn't be getting more. I called FYE, but they didn't sell video games anymore...I was feeling even more hopeless about it at this point. So I went to Target's website, since they and Walmart still at least show it as an item on their website still, and I decided to call another location that's not as far as I thought it'd be (like 10 minutes further than a different one I went to), and they checked and didn't have it.
And then an idea popped into my head...My friend (the one I lent Platinum to) is out of state, so I checked around the general area she was visiting on Target's website, and one of the stores listed said "limited stock"...Most say either "Out of Stock" or "Not available at this store". So I was thinking about asking her, but at the same time, she's on vacation and visiting relatives and stuff so I didn't really want to intrude.
But then I realized I should check where one of my siblings lives, about an hour from here. One or 2 of the locations listed there said "limited stock" as well...And then I realized that I've only ever looked at the 3 nearest locations from me...So I check my area, and right below the 3rd store is the store that I called earlier, and it said "limited stock". So now I got pretty excited. Even though the guy on the phone had told me he didn't see any "Pokemon Gold" (I think he misheard me), and that he only saw Pokemon Black, Pokemon White, and Pokemon White 2, I figured he maybe just didn't check the discount rack of games.
So I decided to go on an adventure around 3:30, hoping to make it back before 5 o'clock traffic. It was actually good for me to do, since it gave me some experience driving in an area that I've never actually been to before (which admittedly made me a little nervous). And I only paid attention to one or two road names ("So I go to where I normally go, except I stay on that road, cross a river at some point, keep going for a bit and watch for street X").
Anyways, so I get there, and I go to the video games all the way in the back. I'm glancing over the video games looking for pokemon, and the three I see are just what the guy said, except that I also saw Pokemon Conquest. And I saw one of the empty spots between Pokemon Black and Pokemon White actually had a "Pokemon Black 2" in the very back of that slot. And then I look down a little ways and just like with the Pokemon Black 2 spot, the spot next to Pokemon White 2 wasn't actually empty, either (despite there being a blank price sticker on the shelf in that spot)...In the very back was Pokemon HeartGold! I was SOOOO...Excited...Gleeful...Proud...I just couldn't believe I'd actually found it!
So I go to find the electronics clerk, and I see him and I'm thinking "crap, pretty sure that's the guy who was on the phone..." I was anticipating awkwardness for getting Pokemon "HeartGold" instead of "Gold" like someone had asked on the phone earlier (*cough*), as I'm sure not many people are getting pokemon games there often anyways, much less one with "Gold" in the title...So I was just hoping he wouldn't remember me from the phone call or just wouldn't bring it up...And he didn't
I was trying to stifle a smile as I walked away with my purchase so I wouldn't look weird, which made me wish I hadn't checked out at the electronics section in the very back...
