Although that sounds very logical, I don't think it'll ever happen. Pokemon types are set as stone. If Game Freak wanted to make Gyarados into a physical version of Kingdra, they would've done it way earlier.

Based on its origin. It's not out of nowhere.
A Water/Dragon-type in Generation I would have had no weaknesses.
No. It was typed that way for a reason to begin with. There's zero reason to change it sixteen years later and about as much chance it will be changed.
It's types are strange, but they're fine the way they are. Like already said, it was done for a reason and it would have had its flying type changed a long time ago.
For balance reasons, no.
It's bad enough to deal with when it has multiple weaknesses.
If anything I'd like to see it become a mono water type.

Nah, for the reasons everyone else said.
It should be able to learn a few more flying moves though. Hurricane suits it.

Although the flying part isnt random, lets admit it everyone. He really dose seem like a dragon type (tho i still love kingdra)
EDIT:
Ehh... yea i could see that. What i would also understand his secondary as dark. ya kno, sea monster pkmn. dread of the abyss? If anything I'd like to see it become a mono water type.

Yes, for a water/flying type Gyarados can only learns one flying move and it's Bounce.

I think he should. As a sea leviathan (a water dragon), it seems surprising that they didn't have Gyarados as a Dragon/Water-Type. Sadly though, they probably aren't going to change it after they have established it.

It should. I always mistake it for water/dragon.

There is no reason for changing its type. It is perfectly fine as Water/Flying Pokémon.
It is you, it is you, it is all for you.
No, I doubt any Pokemon will ever get its type changed. People seem to forget that the only Pokemon who ever got its type changed was Magnemite/Magneton, and that was 14 years ago. Seems like if they wanted to change a Pokemon's type they would have done it already.
No sig. Deal with it.
They could remove the flying type. I don't see why Gyarados has it, it doens't fly it just swims in the water and crawls on land. How the heck is it supposed to fly?
But they aren't gonna remove his flying type. Like someone above me already said: if Nintendo wanted to do that, they would've done it by now.
