Ugh, so this is a 4 versus 4 match? I was wondering how they would get this over in one episode.

no this is a full battle but we know Pikachu gets wins over Samurott & Swanna. Leaving 4 wins for other pokemon (assuming Ash beats Kotetsu)

It'll probably be something like Ash is winning amazingly, then Hydreigon gets pulled out and wipes two of his in a row, followed by "To be continued..."

Ash then proceeds to win, but by the skin of his teeth in the next episode.

It probably will be. However I don't see it being two episode dedicated to the episode. I'm thinking it starts in the Ash vs Stephan episode and ends here. Pikachu beats the things it beat in Ash vs Stephan episode then the episode ends whatever way(Hydreigon sent out or something else or just ends with "What will Kotetsu do now"), then here the rest of the battle is dealt with.

It could work in reverse, have this episode, deal with a bulk of Ash vs Kotetsu and just finish in the next episode, then if there is a battle between Kotetsu and Virgil for Ash, perhaps battling Virgil in the finals, there could easily be a full battle between the two battles (an episode and a half, of fairly quick OHKO's) Then if Ash vs Virgil is in the finals.

There's 5 possible episodes in January.

1 episode could finish Kotetsu's battle with Ash off. With the start of another full battle starting as well.

Then then 1 or 2 episodes could be devoted to Ash's semi final battles.

And then the battle with Virgil could be 3 or 2 episodes (depending on how many episodes are devoted to Ash's potential semi final match).

It's very possible, in my eyes. Even if not likely.

It had a lot of potential, but it's looking like it'll be predictable now that we have more information; it's basically Ash slaying Kotetsu's team, then Kotetsu's Hydreigon slaying Ash's team, then Ash turning the tables with some low-calorie deus ex machina and vitamin-rich plot hax. It's Ash's signature battle style basically. :x

Back on topic, other than the fact that I'm expecting this battle to be a 2-parter, I don't think the first half is going to be Ash tearing up Kotetsu's team so easily. I mean, his team, so far, is made quiet nicely, it's not like he's Morrison (Even though I thought he was at first, not even gonna lie).
The battle has potential to be evenly matched, with Samurott, Hydreigon, and Lucario being Kotetsu's main powerhouses during the fight. And if it's that Ash VS Paul/Ash VS Gary/Ash VS Tyson kind of battle that we all love, then this battle has the possibility of being majorly exciting. But, it can also be majorly depressing and just be Kotetsu losing for the first 20 minutes then in the last 3, Hydreigon comes in and becomes the Dragonite of the Pokemon League.

God I hope this battle isn't an Ash VS Morrison repeat. And please don't let it mimic Ash VS Ritchie in any way possible.

We already have a manga scan that show's Ash's Pikachu pwns Kotesu's Samurott and Swanna pretty easily. Sure the scans aren't 100% accurate, but that's how it likely will go in the episode.

Unless Hydreigon is some kind of Diablous Ex Machina thing and doesn't take any damage until the last Pokemon, I don't see how a group effort isn't a fair win.

Tis usually the case and baring in mind this battle is supposed to be 6 on 6 will most likely be the result. I mean does anyone remember Drake from the Orange Island and his hacked Dragonite? Don't be surprised if ends up something like that.

I don't only think of gym wins though, I agree that compared to some starters Snivy has had a relatively weak showing but she still has battled and won a fair few times, quite recently even.

Isn't Ash vs Kotetsu confirmed to be the 4th round and thus top 8?

Well I didn't know.. I know that at one point it was said that the Bianca vs. Kotetsu match was the first 'non preliminary round', which would make that round 1.. In which case this would be Top8, and Ash will get Top4/Finals.. I don't know if it has been confirmed though.. Hence my doubt.. I know it's confirmed as 4th round, but I'm unsure if Bianca vs. Kotetsu was Round one formally, or just implied second round..

Was just going to say that..

Apparently, Pignite gets a much bigger role here then I expected.. Now we don't have conclusive proof, but the way the camera moves towards Pignite after Samurott uses Aqua Jet kinda tells us that the two shots are connected, so Pignite vs. Samurott as well.. And we do get Pikachu vs. Lucario as well. So:
- Pignite vs. Samurott
- Pignite vs. Hydreigon
- Pikachu vs. Swanna: Confirmed win
- Pikachu vs. Riolu/cario

Suddenly this battle looks far more like a slugfest.. Who knows, Pignite might just get the win against Hydreigon and get KO'd by Samurott, or Ash switches Pignite out before it faints vs. Samurott..

I'm really disappointed they went that route though.. Didn't we just have Samurott vs. Emboar already? Now we just need to see Pignite vs. Lucario and the entire battle against Bianca would in its important part be replayed.. Jeez.. -.-

Lucario didn't beat it though or atleast he also beat himself by beating Lucario.

I hope they surprise us and have Snivy or Oshawott beat it.
