Black 2 American/Japanese Console and Games

I have an American 3ds I'm considering buying a Japanese black 2. I know that the old ds was backwards compatible. Would a regular Japanese ds game work on an American 3ds? Thanks

Not here. Generation V titles are region-locked when played on anything more advanced than a DSi.

Actually only the Japanese version is region locked. English versions aren't. Though I haven't tested the other language ones like Spanish or German so I don't know about those.
