Cos it's likely, there's always those few weirdos who are like "NO WAY I'M EVOLVING NOW THAT'S UGLY"

    No offense to those weirdos.

Ahh, yea. I meant shafted. I hope it doesn't happen, but it most likely will.

Totally one of those weirdos. And its because I never battle competitively, 'cause I know I'd be creamed) so I really don't care about stats or movepools, unless its so bad even I notice it) so I base my choices on looks.

That's why I'm walking on thin ice when it comes to Fennekin's evolution's looks. Like that whole third eye thing *shudders*

Well 5th gen evolutions were all a shock.. Tepig became the huge fat fighting pig, the ninja otter became a sea lion and snivy well it actually became too serpentine, I mean no legs and arms at all..We didn't expect these huge changes..
But I really like all 3 new starters (froakie in particular) so I hope at least they won't upset all of them.. I will sacrifice Chespin for country's sake..

I'm actually very happy on how Jalorda turned out. I'm a huge snake fan, so it was expected. But, sadly, there will always be some people complaining about how they look. There's always a group.

Oh, I know, I'm basically you. I love to battle, but I only catch and use my favorite mons. You'll notice the dudes (and one dudette, counting Windie) in my banner aren't exactly a competitive trainer's dream team.

Regardless, I have ALWAYS found a starter I liked. Even last gen, when I didn't really use my starter much, I still grew quite attached to Emboar.
I was an Oshawott fan for the longest time, assuming that Dewott was gonna go all Samurai otter on us in its final form. We kinda got that, but not quite the way I'd hoped.
Luckily Emboar stepped in with his hilarious fire-beard and saved the day.
Though Pignite is horrendous, can't stand that guy...

If I look at all the starters and their evolutions now, there is only one who I dislike a little bit : Marshtomp.
But then after it evolve in a cool Swampert, so no problem here !

People should be able to express an opinion about a pokemon, even a negative one. I'm totally not one of those annoying people who thinks we as fans shouldn't speak up even if something in the games sucks - even GF get it wrong sometimes and need to be told.

However, it makes me sad that so many people form an opinion about a poke when they haven't even tried it. Like, if they want to say that they don't like Emboar (just as an example)'s design, fair enough. But they shouldn't say 'Emboar sucks ugh I hate it' if they haven't even raised one, and are only assuming it sucks based on how it looks, or the fact that it's fire/fighting again.

The only reason this attitude annoys me so much is, I used to BE that person. I used to look at some pokemon and go 'ew totally gross never using you'...some years later I check out its stats/movepool on Serebii, think 'oh what the hell, let's give it a whirl'...and it turns out to be the best pokemon in my party. Case and point - my Armaldo. I hated them back in third gen and thought their design was really derpy. Francois now has the honour of being my first ever lv 100, and I love him to bits.

So, in the spirit of giving things a chance, even though I don't much like Froakie's design I will try raising one in future. Yeah, after Fennekin and Chesin, but I will get there eventually. And I'm sure my opinion will turn around. Pokemon have a wonderful gift of surprising you

I'm sorry to do this, but I won't be posting in the Serebii Discussion Forums anymore. My account here will remain open for trading/chatting with friends, but please be patient for a reply as my visits here will be fewer.

My decision to leave this community is based on the irrational megalomania of certain moderators. Speaking out about and reporting unfairness on this forum is about as effective as asking a corrupt government to investigate themselves, though, and so I've left for the greener pastures of Bulbagarden Forums, where free speech is still allowed and the rules are followed by all, including those who enforce them.

    It's been a fun 3 years ~

I see what you mean, Emboar's actually really good in battle. With its high Attack and its diverse movepool, it can handle pretty much every type. I should use mine more often.

Emboar is definitely a scary threat, at least in RU. It's poor defense and Speed however is what holds it back. Then again, Choice Scarf exists to remedy its speed issues (whom actually works quite well). Just don't use it in Doubles/Triples because it doesn't function properly. Personally I don't mind Fire/Fighting starters despite it usage 3 generations in a row. Meganium, Serperior and Sceptile share the same typing unlike Torterra and Venesaur. Blastoise, Feraligatr, and Samurott share the same typing unlike Swampert and Empoleon. All in all, personally Fire/Fighting starters typing may be used a lot but consider the previous 3 pure Grass types and 3 Pure Water types we had in the past, even if it's not dual type.

When you put it out that way, you're right. It seems most people went only after Fire/Fighting Starters, but they never thought about the other types. Well, they didn't mention it or anything.

well that is the problem for most and me in particular. besides having pure type for starters isnt so bad when you consider the all dual-types had more problems than merits. For me, i wouldnt mind if GF made every starter pure (would like to believe every1 will too but...)from gen 1.

the other reason is every other type always had more viable options in game but fire being the least experimented type (until gen 5 there was no fire type mon which would not get SE damage from water types) it gets ugly.

Regardless of pros and cons, dual-type Pokémon, specially starters, are always more interesting to me.

It's near impossible for Fire-types to avoid SE Water damage. We're not getting a Fire/Grass starter, and Dragon is a type that I'm sure we won't see on a starter either. So...

By the way, I think Emboar is an amazing starter. I liked using it more than Serperior and Samurott, so it holds the honor of being my favorite Unova starter.
Plus, I actually like its design, for a thing based on pigs it looks pretty good. I must say Emboar isn't my favorite Fire-type starter only because the awesomeness of Infernape's design is reeeally hard to top.

It is you, it is you, it is all for you.

I actually hope Fennekin evolves into a Fire/Fighting type. I know it's been done to death, but I think it could work here. I want another bipedal fox Pokemon, and that's probably what we would get if Fennekin's evolutions are part Fighting type.
