What is that black thing in the top left corner of the Golurk statue picture?

Yeah that would be really cool, you only have to have 8 badges to face the elite four, but you get the options to choose which gyms (Or beat them all just for fun, i would!)

14 Gyms Elite 4 and a Champions sounds AWESOME!

There actually a good way of having all 17 type Specialists in one region...

They can stick to 8 Gym Leaders, and Elite Four (12 types), and keep the Champion multi-type as always.
That should leave us with 5 unused types. I suggest that they do either of the following:

:: Something like an area boss. For example... assuming there is no Electric, Ghost, Grass, Steel, Fire-type Gym Leaders, they can put an Electric-type boss on the region's Power Plant, Ghost-type boss on the haunted area, Grass-type boss on a forest, Steel-type boss on mines/ironworks, Fire-type Boss on desert/volcano.
:: Partner trainers like they did on DPPt. But rather than specializing on a specific stat, they can specialize on the unused types.
:: Assign them to Frontier Brains. Although I doubt this.
:: Assign them to the Villanous Team -- 4 admins, 1 Boss.

I've been curious about too as well... Although I think it's just an umbrella. Maybe that building has something like a rooftop cafe...

As soon as I saw this in the trailer I noticed loads of stuff, such as the massive Golurk statue (which also seems to have a Palpitoad statue and statue of something else which I can't quite tell). Anyway, I immediately thought of the Pokedex entry for Golurk: It is said that Golurk were ordered to protect people and Pokémon by the ancient people who made them. Maybe this could be some sort of ancient city where they were created?
Also, there are two Dratini statues on the left which seem to hint at ancient mythical Pokemon.

Also, can anyone tell me what that weird black thing is hovering above the city in the top left corner??
It seems like there is a human statue standing next to Golurk and Palpitoad. I can vaguely see Eevee on Golurk.

I'm not sure what the black weird thing is... I've been wondering about that too.

So has anyone come up with any good possible names for the region yet? Who thinks it will sound European?
    - Hiatus Notice -

I'm sorry to do this, but I won't be posting in the Serebii Discussion Forums anymore. My account here will remain open for trading/chatting with friends, but please be patient for a reply as my visits here will be fewer.

I've left for the greener pastures of Bulbagarden Forums, where free speech is still allowed and the rules are followed by all, including those who enforce them.

As to a normal champion I say no mainly because all normal type specialists are a PAIN to fight. Whitney has her Milktank, Norman has his annoying Slakings, Lenora has her Watchog (as long as you lack a fighting type or fighting type move like I did at the time until I got a timburr), and Cheren has to be the hardest first gym leader since Falkner if you picked Chikorita and didn't want a geodude or mareep. Then again... The difficulty of these trainers may lead for a champion or elite four member to prove some challenge.
I thought Roark was the hardest gym leader if you chose chimchar, the dude was ridiculously hard, even if your Pokemon were high leveled

I can tell you with 100% confidence that the name won't sound European. Did Unova sound American?

Well, "Isshu" didn't sound American-like at all.

    ("Unova" also sounds more Latin-like)

I have to agree with Vermont, Isshu nor Unova sound nowhere near American. I'm sure this Gen is going to have some crazy name like all the other Regions.

It kind of does, actually, but that's sort of a subjective matter. What defines something as "sounding American" anyway?

Keep in mind that the original Japanese name was Isshu, which is even less American sounding. Unova sounds latin based, IMO.
even if we don't understand each other, that's not a reason to reject each other. There are two sides to any argument. Is there one point of view that has all the answers? Give it some thought.
^ This is the reason why I like arguing. If I come off as standoffish or overly angry in an argument, don't worry. I'm probably having the time of my life. Whether I agree with them or not, the pokemon fandom has a lot of different opinions, and I love how nobody is afraid to share them.

Whatever the region is called, it better have an "o" in it. All the regions have os in them

Well, Unova seems to be derived from United States of ("ov" sounds like "of") America. I'm guessing the name of the new region will similarly be a play on "France" and/or words associated with the country.

Agreed, if the new region's name is not adorned with an O, I will refrain from buying this game and protest outside the Game Freak headquarters in Japan until they change it.

I don't think so. That theory always sounded too silly for my likes.

Almost all languages played with the Japanese name theme, meaning "one kind", indicating Unova has many different people/Pokémon but they're all really as one.

Unova most likely comes from "unum". And then probably "nova".

The name of the new region will have something to do with its theme, which we don't have any idea yet.

I always thought Unova came from nova, as in super nova: the end of an old star and the creation of a new one, referencing the "fresh new start" Unova was supposed to be.
Hoenn was the best region copy and paste this if you agree (started by BATTLEFRONTIERASH)

One thing I would like to see is maybe in some part of the map could be based off of the southern coast of Britain. Could be a separate island you go to too get a badge.

Yeah, more islands would be great. I liked the islands in FR and LG although they were small. I like Olivine city, and I love Dewford.

Only time I've ever cried in Pokemon; when Ash took over command of Chimchar in the Tag Team Tournament. That's when I started to love Chimchar & Monferno Lol keep in mind I was 9

Is it just me, or does the desert bit look a little like Realgam Tower from Colosseum? Chances are it's not the Orre region again, but I wonder if there's some connection. Perhaps we may see a return of Cipher? (**Miror B as gym leader. His Pokemon? All Ludicolos... One can dream**)

I've never been to France, but I do believe it has quite a bit of countryside. That, and the screenshots we have so far seem to indicate a more pastoral feel (remember the early screenshots we had for BW? All cityscapes and bridges... and Chargestone Cave, I think). Though perhaps the region would be based on all of Europe? There would be more interesting geography to use, though Pokemon hasn't exactly been about geographical accuracy *cough* desert ruins in the middle of Manhattan *cough*. Then again, France is about the right size for a Pokemon region.

Interestingly enough, France has quite a few rivers. Take a look at a physical map of France, it's literally covered with them. So if it is just in France, I predict there will not be a lot of ocean, per se, but quite a bit of freshwater.

I hope we get real rivers. Big flowing water bodies, and not just small lakes a or oceans.

I never played colosseum, so want to really want to see Orre in a main series game. Although, IMo it would be better if they put that in the RSEmakes ( if they are coming ).

I think that will remain a dream lol Orre was never a main game and Game Freak had no input in its making so I'll be surprised if it appears in a main game even if it would be fun to battle Miror B again.

France is a large country so there is plenty of places where it can have a desert and I hope they give many of the areas a countryside feel to it with a lot of grass areas and forests.

I hope there are plenty of water areas in the game cause I'm always disappointed when they make a game where you don't have to use surf much.

Watched MunchingOrange's breakdown of the X/Y trailer the other day; he also commented on that desert reminding him of Orre, so you're not alone :3

Yush, imagine running along a Route and seeing a river that stretches out far and even continues on into the next Town.

A big river would be nice. The girl in the trailer was running along what looked to be a good sized one at around 0:26.
