*sigh* Anyway... I actually have my doubts about France. The trailer showed us a desert. I don't really recall any deserts in France.

Instead, I believe this is a WORLD WIDE GYM CHALLENGE . Think about it: the release for this game is world wide, Pikachu starts the trailer by sending lightning all over the world... Maybe France is just A, the home region, or B, one of the many stops on your journey.
They put a desert in New York. They put a desert near where Russia is supposed to be. Anything's possible. Not to mention, game developers seem to love putting deserts into places where they don't belong... like the UK, for example.

Maybe they replaced Gym Badges with some form of Artifacts, which you have to travel around the world and beat bosses of each area to collect, and the E4 is replaced by the final guards of the final boss? Eh, no, that would be way too big of a change.

The idea to base this off of france came out of nowhere. But I like it and they can do a lot with it.

I don't know why, but I want more forests in this region.
To right the countless wrongs of our day, we shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise. What a wonderful world such would be...

Funny how Junichi Masuda just came back from a vacation in France. Maybe he did it for Gen VI ?

It's likely. He also visited New York during Gen V production.

Im interested to see how the rival team is dealt with. I hope we have a another guy like N except more evil and a bigger back story.

    Edit -

@Ver-mont he did visit nyc. he said he liked it and that's why he wanted to base unova off of nyc.

i think the name of the rival team will start with S ( u know, it will go wit the GRAMPS rumor ).

Seems like it. You don't just randomly take a family trip to France when you're supposed to be working on two new core titles for the second most successful franchise in Nintendo history.

If they have the setting being France it'd be a cool idea to put the Chanel Bridge in the game (the one that goes underwater) they could connect it to parts of the UK.

I think it's going to be not just France but Europe as a whole and what the showed was Spain.

Its an amazing idea. I mean this concept in itself could mean that a battle frontier smiler to the 3rd gen one, might be hybridized with all other battle frontier systems.
The battle frontier within all other games are fine and the "after story-line" activities are fine to. But with the newly created and larger DS console (3ds) we might be able to access more parts of the regions and or the new things created due to the amount of space now being able to be stored on the larger console system.

    Spain has deserts, too?

The light comes specifically from somewhere around France, though. Unless they're planning on totally excluding East Europe, I doubt that's the case.

It's France, we even saw Eiffel Tower in a background.

I'm definitely thinking more 'Europe' as opposed to just 'France'. At the very least, it'd be a crying shame to not have a go at capturing some of the continent's best culture and landscapes.

It's France, we even saw Eiffel Tower in a background.
It doesn't necessarily follow that it'll be the sole focus of the region.

Well, if this is trully in france, the cities names could be related to wine.

    Bourgogne, Champagne, Roussillon.... Oh wait...

    ....

The funny part is that in the last month I have been talking to my friends about "If the next pokemon is based on Europe"... but I was thinking more in Greece, Italy or the Slavic countries.

Exactly, I don't think they'd just specifically showcase France unless the region was actually completely based on it.

It's just a region, I don't think it would do Europe justice to stuff the whole continent into a single region.

Sounds silly, but i'd be offended, as a European, if they tried to fit a whole continent in one game while it took them 4 generations to cover the main areas of Japan, and one city in the US got a whole game, might just be me, but i think even just all of France would be a bit of a squeeze.

Hah, I like those city names! But I'm more surprised for the fact that they use the Norse Legend of Yygdrasill.

Exactly, I mean, they devote four whole regions to Japan and one for New York alone, and then they go ahead and cram Europe into one single region. Marvellous.

One region isn't enough to capture Europe's charm.

To me it's more case of doing Europe any justice at all - I doubt they'd set gen 7 a few hundred miles either side, judging by the jump they've made this time round.

Lucky you, Europeans. The U.S. got many new Pokemon. You get an advance in technology, and possibly a lot of romance.

Nice to see that the region will be inspired by France! I love the feeling of nature you get from the pictures as well! Out on the road only you and your team mates^^

Everything came from the water and the earth. Time for a new adventure.

Loving the whole Paris angle. Can't wait to see the rest of the region.
A soul that cannot be saved drifts and disappears,
In the instant it vanishes, it shines faintly,
Now, it creates a night with a full moon.
