While I think many legendaries are cool, they just start to pile up now. We're in Gen VI and had:
5 legendaries in Gen I
6 legendaries in Gen II
10 legendaries in gen III which is almost 10% of the pokemon that gen, jesus
13/14 legendaries in Gen IV depending if you count Manaphy and Phione as one or two
13 legendaries in Gen V
That's 47 "legendary" pokemon, or over 7% of all pokemon. That's a lot for something that's supposed to be special.
All those trios and one quartet are just too much. It's okay to have one trio as the generation mascots, but having another trio at the side, plus multiple others that are unrelated to all of that...
just too much.
I hope there won't be a bunch of legendaries, oh no.
I think that it was fun before, in the first Gen when lengaries were rare, that there was on... 5 of them ? (Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo and Mew)
I think that we dont necessary need twelve trio and hundreds of duo. But because of the last gen, I think there will be about... 12 legendaries.
Sinnoh, the Land of Miracles.
Chapter VIII - Behind the mirror.
Let me ask you. Why is it too much? Most never use the, anywaynand are for collection purposes... Just like a Kricketune. No this argument does not conclude Legendaries are the same as Kricketune, but it just means that some will be used, and some won't no matter how many there are.
And I'd much rather have mythos for all of them (something Gen IV did, Arcues plus it's trios are explanatory, the Lunar Duo too, the Sea Princes are also selfaxplanatoey, Regigigas shaped the continents, Shaymin caused Flowers in Floaroma, and is in a way a local legend, and Heatran's eruption of Stark Mountain caused the Battle Zone and possibly Sinnoh to form).
The word legendary implies that it's something extremely rare and special, which just doesn't fly anymore if over 10% of a Generation's pokemon are considered legendary. Even higher percentage if you only count evolution lines and not every single pokemon. That's all. I don't care if people use them or not, I don't play competitively anyway. Too much of the same teams. But that's another discussion.
I'd just like the word "legendary pokemon" to mean something more than just "there's only 1 of this in this game". So yeah, the fact that "it's just like a Kricketune" is what bothers me about the state of legendaries.
By that logic GF could just throw in a thousand and one legendary Pokemon, or as many as they can fit on a single cartridge in a single generation just because there isn't a objective definition of "too many legendary in a single generation". There has to be a line where most people would start to think the numbers are overflowing and saturating the dex, however subjective that may be. For example, the line could be "Wait, I think I'm seeing more legendary Pokemon than I'm seeing Ghost type!"
But there are multiple in a game. Multiple Phione, Manaphy, and Heatran, there are multiple Sinnoh Dragons.
And where did you get the idea I was talking about competetive.?
I also stated that Legends are NOT like Kricketune.
Plus, 10%, it's only 7% in total.
And, if you think they aren't so special anymore, why are you arguing they should be special if you outright stated they can't be?
No offense, but I loled at the last line, considering there alwyas has been more Legends than Ghost or Dragon Tpes. In gen 1, there were 5 Legends, and 3Ghost/Dragon Types.
Inngen II, there still were more. Gen III too, Gen IV, and then also Gen V.

Cause you were talking about people using or not using them I thought you meant "using them in battles against you".
I meant 1 of that particular species in the same game without any shenanigans. I am aware there's more than 1 legendary per game, but of the legendaries, there's only 1 per species usually.
And they could be special, if they went and didn't put a dozen to choose from in each new game. Making it so you can't fill 2 entire teams just with all the legendary pokemon you can catch in your game would be a start. And maybe make them useful without being gimmicky or feeling like you're cheating if you use them so more people would feel compelled using one. I for one love Raikou and if I have the chance, I use it.
Forcing you to use Reshiram/Zekrom in BW1 as part of the story was one way to achieve this. Maybe made some people think "hey this isn't too bad, I'm gonna keep using it."
Touche. Though I would attribute this to the fact that the legendaries didn't bug me that much in earlier gens since they don't actually try to make direct contact with you compared to the later gens. None of them attempted to engage you in gen I., Only Suicune did so in Crystal for gen II. Groudon and Kyogre essentially force you do either capture or defeat them in RS (but E changed it). I didn't complete Platinum but managed to get to the point where I have to fight Giratina. And in Gen V the mascots were literally in the way for your championship fight asking to be captured.
I always liked the idea that as the games move to more distant regions pokes that we're really rare in one region become more comman in others, I'd even go as far that as these pokemon become more common their evolutionary families grow, basically I'd love the new dex have prevos of the legendary beasts.
I can dream.
But I don't mind how many legendaries there are just so long as they have a good story and I can get most with out events. I'd rather DLC over traditional events.

That's true for most legendaries unfortunately. I just wish it wasn't like that. I wish legendaries were done in a way that they're exclusive and interesting enough that you'd want to use them and could use them without feeling like playing "on easy mode" because they're so strong. But that won't happen if they keep getting thrown around like cheap candy at halloween.
^ This. The aura of legendary pokes have kinda become pointless with so many of them. It was okay in Sinnoh coz they good myths behind them But, many of them were pointless in Unova. I hope GF really cuts down on the legendaries. Maybe include only the Xerneas and Yveltal. We don't even need the 3rd one now. I doubt they will make a third version for this game.
Yes, or at the very most a trio + the generation mascots. Gen I/II style. As long as the trio gets a story behind them like Gen II's trio did. (Which I found and still find a really cool story)
You just reminded me of something. I think the very reason that they make so many legendary pokes is because they can give out more events. If thats the case, then I don't see the number reducing any time soon.
BTW, Dirkac you seriously need typing lessons. I can't read that last sentence.
Stupid Ipad, I type too fast to notice any mistakes as I don't goover my post if it's not fanfiction, and I make mistakes because my Ipad is having problems with the touchscreen.
Anyway, the events is right. But I actually do wish there were more Legends only availbale in a way like Manaphy or Phione. I loved that :P
Mew and Mewtwo's story was told in a more subtle manner. Less is more. And unless you only accept the game's content as the true canon, Mew and Mewtwo's movie was a lot more realistic and better in elaborating on the storyline, since it focused on their origin, which is the whole focus of their mythology compared to the most of the legendary that are depicted as a manifestation of a certain idea, and their movies focused more on random conflicts.
