Do people not know gen 5 was designed to be short from the beginning? I thought this was common knowledge.

A poorly formed opinion that is trying to be passed as fact.

Folks if you are going to say that you didn't like generation X at least provide a reasonable statement why you didn't like it. Rather than saying "generation X is crap" and then running off, it's a childish thing to do and frankly it's really pathetic.

I disagree. The pokemon looked very cool to me and the games were great too (the games were great sellersthem selves). So I don't think the 5th gen failed at all.

    Generation 5 gave us

    Triple Battles
    Rotation Battles
    Re-usable TM's
    Dream World
    Dream World Abilities
    Combination move (pledges)
    New Breeding Mechanics
    New Shiny Mechanics
    Battle Subway/Pokemon World Tournament
A deep engaging storyline( that actually warranted a true sequel and not a rehash with a few frills)
    A lot of unique Pokemon(imo)

If all that constitutes a failure then I give up on life.

The gen V games rival gen II and HG/SS as my favorite Pokemon games of all time. Gen V was not a failure, it was just a shame that it didn't last as long and that it was released at an awkward moment. I really loved gen five, the story, music, and yes even the Pokemon grew on me. People are entitled to opinions but please respect other peoples opinions as well. I really dislike Diamond/Pearl but you don't see me bashing those games, because while they were my least favorites something good came from them, that that something was a Piplup

I can't wait for gen VI, I'm really loving that Deer legendary Pokemon.

The only thing wrong with Gen 5 was that the games were nothing but more of the same, unlike Gen 3 and 4 which offered a bunch of new things. Well, that and I really dislike Team Plasma. But other than that, it most certainly did not fail.

You actually do have a good point. While Black and White gave you almost nothing but more of the same in terms of gameplay, it STILL noticably improved upon the formula.

The gameplay will never change, like you said it follows a formula. I don't know why people expect Pokemon's gameplay to change if it has worked all these years.

Gen V was pretty awesome to me. I thought that it was one of the best. Definitely a massive improvement over Gen IV. It was probably that the DS had a longer life span than what was expected.

Hardly any games change. Even mature games

Black and White were---I mean ARE the best Pokemon games ever, so **** off.
Gen 4 was the real failure, to be honest.

    No gen is a "failure".

All of them brought something new to the table that was good for the series in the long run. The physical/special split of gen 4 was easily one of the best gameplay changes, as it suddenly made dozens of Pokemon a lot better.

Gen 5 is my second favorite, after Gen 3. Gen 4 was the only one I didn't really like, and even then I managed to find Pokemon I still liked (Togekiss, Carnivine, Froslass, Honchkrow - the list goes on!) in spite of the stereotypical story.
Actually, in my opinion, gen 5 has one of the best storylines. I loved N and I really loved that he wasn't the real villain, even though he wound up with his own legendary. I only wish we'd gotten RSE remakes in gen 5, but maybe that'll come in gen 6. You know Sootopolis would look AMAZING in full 3D.

With every generation, there are always the people that come out and like to say how terrible the previous generation was. What you have to remember is that Gen V was the most original Pokemon title since the original Red/Blue.

How many people remember being swarmed by Zubats when they entered a cave? Sure Woobat was a substitute, but regardless, players didn't encounter any Gen I-IV pokemon until after they beat the game.

Next, people want to complain about the pokemon designs (Trubbish and Vanillite are brought up most often), but you have remember, pokemon have been modeled after inanimate objects since Gen I (Voltorb started the trend).

I'm not saying Gen V was the best generation of pokemon, but it was pretty darn good. The games were fun, the plot was in my opinion pretty realistic. I'm pretty nostalgic when it comes to the older gen games, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to write off the current generation.
I'm typically inactive between Spring and Fall. I'll be on as often as time allows.

That too, though I only meant to say that gen 4 was my least favorite. I for one didn't like most of its evolutions, design-wise anyway.
Distortion World will always be one of the most memorable sequences in the series.

It's not so much that. 3rd and 4th gen games had a bunch of activities to do when you get bored with battling and want to do something else. I thought they were really fun to pass the time. I still often play in Contests, Super Contests, Pokeathelon, etc. Black/White pretty much had this really bogus Pokemon Musical minigame that most people would agree sucked. Then they had Pokestar Studios, although that's still mostly battling. And there is a bunch of Online-Only features, but not everyone has the ability to go online with their DS. And that pretty much leaves you with battling, exploring, and catching Pokemon the only things in the game. Not even a casino or a Safari Zone.

As long as you've spent under 10 in the musicals, you should be okay.

I thought the musicals were funny time wasters. Sometimes, quick and brainless is the best pick.

The fifth generation is not a complete failure. It wasn't a failure to begin with. It would be delusional to think that is was.

    Hoenn has disappointed.

P.S. I get tired of complaints from great games.
