Is there any artwork which you think looks horrible and doesn't compliment the Pokemon like it is supposed to be?
I find the recent Charizard sprite where it's face looks very ugly with a strangely bent neck disappointing.

Just what the heck was that...
A lot of the back sprites for gen IV were from really unappealing angles of the Pokemon.

Alas, you may be my favorite generation...but green version...what the hell man XD. Red and Blue are bad but not as bad as Green. I'm taking all greens sprites, but only the back sprites for red and blue I actually liked most of the front sprites. Just the back ones...what...

Warning, the later part of this post contains a lot of sarcasm.
Agreed but it's understandable with the fact that GameFreak never expected it to become a phenomenon.
A Vaporeon.
Care to share some examples? Also, don't double post!
If it doesn't look like the sprites are from a game by Arc System Works; they look ugly in my opinion.
Charizard looked weird in pretty much every game except Generation 2. There, he looked MENACING, but in later games, he just looks like a cuddly dragon, which is just weird.
For a similar example, Gengar looked more ghastly and creepy, but now he just looks...cuddly.
I wonder what Genesect would have looked like in Generation 1 or 2...

A lot of the Red & Blue sprites hilariously over-exaggerated. Cases in point: Pidgeot, Raichu, Arcanine, Machamp, Exeggcute, Chansey, and Omastar (Discostar). Dratini's RB sprite is horrific. To say nothing of the Red & Green sprites.
A handful of the Black & White sprites have rather unappealing color palettes.
This; Tropius and Palkia come to mind.
Every backsprite from RSE and a lot of the Generation IV ones.
Also, almost every Blastoise sprite looks awful.
Look how awesome Blastoise is:
Spoiler:- Blastoise' badassness:
Now lets look at its sprites:

Seriously, what the fnck? Why GF make it looks like crap in the sprites? LoL. The only two decent sprites are the Generation II ones:

Btw, an awful Venusaur sprite:

It is you, it is you, it is all for you.
Basically ever rse back sprite was hopeless. My brother and I always used to laugh at them. 3 of them were really bad:
Wailmer sprite
this is wailmer. What the heck ? it looks like a blob. same goes for wailord
wailord sprite
As much as would not like to say it, the Kyogre back sprite was BS. I mean look at it ! Its a blob with some red streaks on it which look like they are painted.
Edit - oops. attached the wailmer pic by mistake, its not going now. :P
I don't have much to complain about the sprites. I like the fact GF vary them from one a game to other.
I think it was going to get boring if the Pokemons were designed always in the same position.
And I don't have any sprite that I find ugly/weird, I think they were all well designed in the generation they were launched.

I understand that in older games the sprites may seem a bit crappy, but in the later generations, which the color pallete was larger and the pixles were too many, I couldn't bear looking to specifically two Pokemons:
In R/S/E and FR/LG, Dratini was purple instead being blue.
Again in R/S/E and FR/LG, this time Vaporeon is ocean-green instead blue.
It's pretty much of a coincidence that two Pokemons of a same generation games that would be blue, were not colored that way...
Actually, gf did this many pokes. Sneasel comes to mind, in gs it was brown. Then in crystal in was black. Then in gen 3 it became light black, then in gen 4 onwards it became darker black.
I'm too lazy to attach images, check bulbapedia. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wi...(Pok%C3%A9mon)
Also, golbat's wing color changes from purple to red or something.
Nice example, dude! Sneasel's color change was even more severe than Dratini and Vaporeon.
By checking the link you posted, we can see that it was:
- brown in Gold and Silver
- black in Crystal
- dark green in R/S/E and FR/LG
- dark blue in D/P/Pt, HG/SS, B/W, B2/W2
It seems Sneasel color is dark blue since 4th Generation. I hope it'll stay that way from now on.
