Default The Pokemon Dead, Gengar Protocol - - SU

Deep within the bowels of a millennia year’s old temple in the Unova desert, excavation projects proceed at a steady pace. Truckloads of valuable minerals and artifacts are exported all around the pokemon world for research and storage purposes. Pewter city has long been famous for its collection of rocks and as such was a natural place to display the most stunning or precious pieces that come out of Unova. However, one minor detail that was ignored and hidden from the general public is that some translators at the dig sites discovered what could be warnings of a curse or something similar. These people were dismissed and made fun of, with the managers in charge claiming that the translators had misunderstood the texts and that they were getting in the way of progress. Weeks later the ones who had discovered the warnings were proven right, unfortunately by then it was already too late..

The troubles first began with the opening of a new exhibit in Pewter city. Rows and columns of shiny, football sized gems sat on display for all to see. At around noon, some of the day laborers who had set up the gallery suddenly started behaving unruly and violent. Security officers on the scene quickly restrained most of the troublemakers but for some strange reason, seemed to be unable to catch them all. Not wanting to see the event ruined several local pokemon trainers released their Onix's and Steelix to help put an end to the situation.

For a few moments it appeared as though everything was going to be fine but that is when things went from bad to worse. In a shocking turn of events, the massive pokemon turn on their trainers and go on a rampage! People stampede for the exits and screaming fills the convention center where the exhibit was being held. Hardly anyone notices that the workers who had turned violent were now free and staggering around in an odd fashion. Not only that but the officers who had detained the laborers also began acting strangely. One word can be heard above all of the chaos when an extremely pale day laborer screams it, "BRAINS!!" At the mention of this word, the former pokemon, security officers and workers are reminded of their greatest deficiency and go into a frenzy, attacking anyone nearby! They were no longer human nor pokemon, they were now Zombies!

Many were shocked by the appearance of undead monsters but what was especially troubling is that even thick skinned pokemon seemed to not be immune from the condition. Out of the 700 or so people in attendance of the Pewter city event, only 18 managed to escape the carnage alive. There was no need for a press release because similar outbreaks were occurring world wide, with equally devastating results. In only a matter of days, the majority of humans and pokemon were either dead, incapacitated or zombified. 90% of all Gym leaders are killed while trying to evacuate their respective towns and the undead hordes show no signs of stopping.

In an ironic twist of fate, one of the first places to witness the zombie apocalypse also becomes the site of the greatest amount of human resistance. Indigo Plateau stands as the last "Official" stronghold against the zombies. Where regions such as Johto have been reduced to almost complete wasteland, the natural geography and difficult terrain of the plateau made it the ideal location to form a defensive line. Before the routes were cut off, surviving pokemon trainers, world leaders and others flocked to the area. A massive network failure across all pokemon centers rendered the pokemon storage system useless and left many trainers with only their lead pokemon at the time as useable. Even so, thousands of volunteers defend the mountain fortress but they can only hold out for so long with the zombies doing their best to approach from lower Johto and the now overrun Viridian city.

While things look bleak elsewhere, the concentration of zombies is still relatively low inside of Kanto. (excluding Pewter and Viridian cities) thanks in part to Mt. Moon acting as a sort of barrier, which the zombies have so far been unable to navigate. There are still massive mobs of the ghouls roaming around the base of Indigo Plateau and what is left of Pewter city. To the east, some of the brightest minds of the pokemon world gather in a Saffron city Silph Co. lab in order to try and find a scientific answer to the zombie invasion. However, precious time is short and the research center's defenses are estimated not to last much longer. Humans and pokemon still fight the good fight all throughout the region but currently very few places can be called "safe”. Even though the bulk of the horde is in western Kanto, zombies still appear elsewhere because the Magnet train tunnel was not sealed up right away. It is currently blocked but not before an unspecified number of the creatures managed to get through.

With the zombie menace nearly dominating the globe, an unknown government initializes a contingency program code named - Gengar Protocol. Reserve operatives based on Cinnabar island are tasked with tracking down and capturing anyone suspected of being a zombie. The secondary objective of the group is to contain the zombie advance within Kanto at all costs. Essentially this organization wants to round up zombies and keep them out of trouble until a cure can be developed. Due to budget cuts, Gengar protocol agents are not heavily funded but they still have some of the best equipment and supplies available, not to mention the Cinnabar island holding center. (a part cave/ secret command center that is capable of safely detaining a large number of zombies)

Societies darkest hour has come, will pokemon and mankind be able to weather this storm? Or has the time arrived for a new dominant species to rule the planet?

In this RP there are not so much factions as they are more like different available roles:

    1. Gengar protocol Government operative
Lightly armed and well supplied, it is the job of these agents to track down potentially infected (cursed?) parties and capture them. They are authorized to use lethal force on any zombies that are considered to be too far gone to help. Operatives are effective at taking down small numbers of zombies but start to have problems if more than 3 - 4 are clustered together at the same time. In trying to keep a low profile, they do not have a standardized uniform but they do carry unique ID badges.

Weapons and equipment?: Yes, Tools for stunning targets, light body armor, hover dollies and they may also carry small firearms. Operatives have access to small boats inside of Kanto borders.

Npc assistance?: Yes, up to 2 humans and as many as 1 pokemon for each person.
(If teammates perish, they cannot be replaced without traveling back to the HQ)
    Headquarters: Cinnabar island

    Daily food usage: Low

    2. Citizen survivor
An everyday person just trying to stay alive. Whether bashing zombies in the streets or hiding out someplace, these people want to get through this thing in one piece.

Weapons and equipment?: None, but they can usually keep whatever they scavenge
Npc assistance?: Yes, up to 1 pokemon
    HQ: n/a

    Daily food usage: Medium

    3. Wild/ tamed pokemon survivor (non flying, non ghost, non legend)
An unaffiliated pokemon that has managed to escape the initial carnage. The world has not died off yet and most pokemon are actually pretty good at surviving in the wild. The introduction of a new brain hungry predator makes looking for food more dangerous than ever.

    Weapons and equipment?: None
    Npc assistance?: None
    HQ: n/a

    Daily food usage: Low

    4. Zombie Lord
This role includes some of the earliest people to become zombified. While no one is really in command of all zombies, these special variants have developed over time and gained the ability to lead a certain number of lesser undead. (up to a distance of about a kilometer or two) Normally a zombie is a decayed yet sturdy, slow moving creature that will do anything to eat brains but Zombie Lords are a bit stronger, faster and smarter than normal zombies, although they are still mostly driven by the desire to feed. Zombie lords have a small mysterious mark on their forehead that resembles a downward pointing Sierpinski triangle that has a very faint golden glow.

    Weapons and equipment?: None
Npc assistance?: Yes, up to 5 zombies at once. You may choose any combination of either human or pokemon type zombies. If one of them is killed, then they can be replaced after 1 post.
    HQ: Pewter city
    Daily food usage: High

    Other information:
For the pruposes of this RP, a zombie is considered killed if its head is destroyed.
A zombie bite is fatal. Although the speed of death may be slowed down in certain cases, where it might take a few more bites to kill something. (steel, rock pokemon, etc)

The legendary pokemon are well aware of the zombie crisis but since the cursed items were clearly marked with warning messages, the most powerful pokemon have decided to leave humanity to fend for itself. Similarly, Ghost pokemon would prefer that the humans survive but have gone into hiding to prevent the possible creation of any ghost zombies. It was decided that the wall phasing ability gained from such a fusion would spell almost certain doom for any survivors.

As far as the Great air battle of 2013 goes, there is bad news and there is good news: The bad news is that nearly all aircraft/ flying pokemon are grounded, destroyed and/or injured. The good news is that as a result of the battle, almost all flight capable zombies have been wiped out.

    Explanation of Daily food usage:
This rating determines how often a character needs to have the mention of food or eating in a post. Go too long without a meal and your character may become weak or in extreme cases, even starve to death. A "High" rating means that feeding needs to be nearly constant to stay at full strength. (at least every other post or so) On the opposite hand, a "Low" rating means that food is not much of an issue and these characters are assumed to have somewhat easy access to it most of the time. (mentioning food in a post is optional or infrequent) "Medium" is somewhere in between with food being needed after every couple of posts. (3 - 5)

This RP will use headers to keep track of players at a glance. It should appear at the top of each post and include your characters name, role, location and fullness level (health).
A characters current health should be put in parentheses. For each npc under your control put their name and a dash below the main characters info. After that, add their health status based on this chart:

    Fine: Full strength
Hungry: Need to eat soon but still mostly ok
Starving: Character is weakened and slowed.

Low rated roles will almost always have "fine" health while zombies are going to be hungry most of the time. (on a side note, the Zombie Lords High rating is a little misleading because even though zombies need to be continuously killing and eating random victims to stay at full power, the npc zombies under a Lords control can be replaced fairly quickly if they are KO'd)

    Here is an example:
    Pete
    Human survivor
    Celadon city poke mart
    (Fine)

As always, no controlling other player characters without permission.
If you are attacking someone else be sure to give them plenty of room to respond and try to avoid auto hitting. (it is fine against random non player characters however)

If someone is pinned under a rock, unarmed and surrounded by opponents then there is little doubt of what will probably be the outcome but we still want to see if that outmatched person can come up with a creative enough solution to somehow escape. (let us try not to get too ridiculous though)

Players may start from any location within this alternate version of Kanto except for a few key places: Viridian city, Pewter city, Saffron city, Indigo Plateau and Cinnabar island. These areas can only be chosen as a beginning point if your role states that it is your head quarters.

    Default

    Name:Sam Johnson
    Role:Citizen Survivor
    Age: 20
    Gender:Male

Personality: Sam is an outgoing guy, and finds it easy to talk to people, whether or not he knows them properly. Sometimes though, he can be overconfident and cocky, getting himsef into trouble by not being as careful as he should be. He's a bit of a smooth talker, eloquent and sly, good at manipulating people, and he won't have much hesitation to use his manipulating skills and make others do what he wants. He thinks of himself as being Arceus's gift to women, though they don't often agree, finding him irritating and arrogant. This self-glorifying image, however, can cause him to be a little vain, and he always tries to keep himself looking his best, particularly with his hair. His outgoing nature makes him easy to get along with at first, but when people get to know him properly, they may find it harder to get along with him.

He tries his best to avoid danger and, of course, zombies, but trouble always seems to catch up with him, his recklessness not helping matters. His favourite foods are hawaiian pizza, and toasted cheese, though he's a terrible cook, and tends to try and avoid cooking, preferring to try and live on foods that can be eaten cold, or with very little cooking. Despite thinking of himself as brave, he has a cowardly streak, and tends to put his personal wellbeing over that of others, even his close friends. He has quite severe Claustrophobia, a fear of tight, enclosed, spaces, or large crowds. He loves to swim, and is a very fast climber, as well as being reasonably strong.

Appearance: He is about average height, and slightly muscular, with broad shoulders, but while he's not really fat, he is a little bit overweight. He has long legs and arms, and bony hands, which seem a lot weaker than they actually are, and a small tattoo of a runic symbol on his left bicep. His skin is quite pale, and he isn't very hairy, though he has a slight amount of stubble on his face. His face is youthful and innocent looking, with a playful spark in a pair of light green eyes. His mouth seems to default to an irritating smirk, and his nose is slightly small. His ears are also quite small, and rouned, staying quite flat against his head, not sticking out at all. His hair is about halfway between blonde and ginger, and gets paler or darker depending on how much sun it gets. He normally gels it up in a windswept style when he gets the chance.

He'll wear whatever clean clothes he can find, of course, but his favourite outfit is a purple t-shirt with a brown leather jacket over the top. He generally wears black gloves and a pait of black Timberland boots, so that he can stay warm and be able to run at any time. His left ear is peirced, and he wears a silver earring in the shape of an X. He wears brown jeans, and carries a black backpack around with him, so that he can carry any essential items that he finds in houses, or loots from stores. His most precious posession is his silver ring, which has a real sapphire imbedded in the surface of the metal, and he always wears it on the ring finger of his left hand.

History: He was born to an underpriveliged family in Cerulean City, though his parents spoiled him despite this, getting him extravagant gifts and presents to him that they could in no way afford to buy, and racked up a steady amount of debts to various banks and lenders. It was at the age of nine that he discovered how badly their situation was becoming, when an associate from one of the banks turned up at the door, inquiring about the aoubt of debt that they were in. His parents were too proud to ask for help from any insurance if financial organizations, as they both agreed that
it would be demeaning and humiliating to have to beg for help from people they didn't even know. After about a year of legal struggles, fines, hearings, and interviews, his parents finallly managed to off their debts.
After this, he became more careful with money, and realised that you couldn't just buy whatever you wanted, and that you always had to think two steps ahead. It was then that he started to learn how to scam people, and became gradually better at it as the months rolled by. A few years later, he finally told his parents how he got the money, and while he'd expected a harsh rebuke about how it was wrong, he got off with just a disapproving look from my mother, who sighed and shook her head, saying that he could keep doing it so long as he didn't bother asking them for any more money.
After a few content years, living in security, the infection broke out. His mother had been one of the first affected, and she'd almost killed him, narrowly missing a bite. He'd managed to hide, and after a few terrified hours spent hidden in a dark room, hearing nothing but his own heartbeat, the monster that had once been his mother had left, thinking that he'd somehow escaped, and left the house. He knew that she would return to search for him, so he grabbed a backpack and headed out into the city.

    My fave Pokemon ^.^

Excellent question! They were almost going to be a faction themselves but for the sake of balance, the zombie scientists are being left as non player characters. While Saffron city is not choosable as a starting location, it is possible to be a Silph Co. employee who was out of town during the outbreak or something like that.

I have a couple of questions.
First, can I reserve a Pokémon survivor spot? (Do the Pokémon have slightly different sign-ups [Ability, moves, etc]) Also, as far as Pokémon go, are floating Pokémon banned (ie Magnemite, Tynamo, etc; they aren't ghosts or flying types, but....?)
Second, can we have more than one character?
If yes to ^^, can I reserve a second Pokémon survivor spot?

No need for reserves, the sign ups will likely stay open.
Pokemon survivors get the same sign up form. If someone is a pokemon (or controlling one) then they may use any of their level up, TM or breeding moves. Floating and levitating pokemon are OK, since they are mostly just hovering over the ground.

To control more than one character, a player would need to choose one of the roles that come with npc's. Zombie Lords get the most but I would not expect much personality from a bunch of zombies.

Come to think of it, Zombie Lords should be able to get zombie pokemon pokemon too.

    Name: Dolph Dixon
    Role: Citizen Survivor
    Age: 22
    Gender: Male
Personality: Dolph before the whole Zombie outbreak was very outgoing person who went out of his way to make friends and just really enjoyed networking with random people. Dolph was always had a positive outlook on life and loved waking up everyday knowing the day will be fantastic. But then it all changed once the zombie outbreak started Dolph grew paranoid while being constantly on the run from zombies and it really tested his will to live each and everyday. And seeing all the suffering and death around him really broke him down to the point that if things went back to normal it would be a major adjustment going back to how things were.
Dolph has now become much more quick to judge and doesnt trust people being around him for long periods of time, the zombie outbreak has turned him into the ultimate survivor of sorts now he thinks each and every move he does and follows a very strict routine. This includes not staying in one place for too long and when he does decide to settle down in a spot he makes sure there are no weak spots by constantly checking on the area. Dolph has also became much more hostile towards outsiders because of having bad experiences with bringing people into his life after the zombie outbreak. He is very intelligent even though now he seems to be reaching the point of losing his mind at times.
Appearance: Dolph at first glance seems like a pretty boy he has blue eyes and bleached blonde hair which reflects his old life before the zombie outbreak. Now he looks like he's been in a couple of rough fights and the daily struggles of the zombie outbreak clearly has took a toll on Dolph. He has bags under his eyes from barely sleeping and his face just maintains a very depressed look to it. Dolph is 5'10 and weighs around 170 or so pounds which is about average he also has a nice build to him from years of working out .
Back when zombies were science fiction Dolph wore suits and ties a very classy look, but now thats all changed. Now Dolph keeps with a more practial look wearing old beat up jeans with a long sleeve black shirt and a camo jacket with black running shoes. He has a backpack that he carries around that contains a small knife and a sleep bag among other items he finds along his travels around the region. Probably his most important item is his badge case which has all his badges that he has won before the zombie outbreak this is the only item Dolph has of his past life and is his only reminider of what he used to be.
History: Dolph was born and raised in Blackthorn City of the Johto Region, he grew up as a spoiled high class type of child he had zero worries in life but maintained a very leveled life. He understood he was lucky to have everything he wanted and shared that with everyone around him. Once he turned ten years old he was given a Sunkern as his starter pokemon at first Dolph didnt like his pokemon as all his friends were given dragon pokemon to start off with. But as the years gone by Dolph and Sunflora became very close and they both decided to challenge the Johto League. Dolph actully won all the Johto League badges and became a celebrity around the region due to his battling skills. But he fell up short when challenging the elite four and decided to take up a chance to challenge the Kanto Region's league.
Once he arrived in the Kanto Region he wanted to wait alittle bit to challenge the league this is how Dolph became even more well known because he was spotted around all the big sights of the Kanto Region. He began challenging the league and won the first few badges but then zombie outbreak started and it caught Dolph totally offguard. He took it upon himself to try to stop the outbreak but ended up losing 5 out of his six pokemon because of being over run by zombies. This broke Dolph down to the point of going deep into hiding with Sunflora and hoping there will be a end to all the madness. Dolph eventully decided to venture back out into the world in hopes of going back to the Johto Region to see if his friends and family are still alive.

    NPC Application
    Sunflora
    Solar Power
Hyper Beam, Energy Ball , Ingrain, Synthesis
The opposite of Dolph at this point very friendly and always happy
    92 TP 35 KO (TL3)

    Name: Skyler Hearthome
    Role: Citizen Survivor
    Age: 19
    Gender: Male

Personality: Skyler is a relativly nice person. He's a good friend, and a good-hearted Pokemon trainer. He's determined, and won't give up on any task he sets his focus on, thus making him a reliable friend, and a strong ally. He looks out for people, and help those in need. He's the kind of person the old ladies will stop and say "Such a nice youth" to each others. He's a positive individual, and tries the best he can to find the brighter sides of things, however how foul they might be. He sometimes during hostile situations, give a great speech about how they can't give up, and how they are going to achieve their goal, no matter what! this trait also makes him a bit stubborn, and he's difficult to convince once he's set his focus on something.

Appearance: Skyler is a decent-looking young man with teal eyes. His hair is silver blonde, and cut in a short, stylish way. He dresses lightly after the outbreak. It is difficult to outrun zombies if you're overdressed. "Always dress for the occation!" he used to say. Now, it's just easier that way, usually just using jeans and a hoodie. He's used to the cold, so it is not an important issue to him. He's also very often smiling, and he's quite the athlete, as expected from an Elite four member, who also have to outrun zombies every now and then.

History: Skyler is the youngest son of a scientist in Cinnebar Island. Even though his father worked there, he lived in Johto wih his mother and two older sisters. He would often jog the way from Goldenrod City to the Pokčathlon, where he participated with his Ice-Type Pokemon. He was training to be an Elite Four member, after Bruno went off to the mountains again fro some serious training. His mother was very proud of him, and cheered him on all the way. He eventually managed to become an Elite Four member, being the youngest one in the regions of Johto and Kanto.

Now, Skyler is living in Saffron City, traveling to the Indigo Plataeu every time there is a challenger. Which happens far less than he anticipated when he took the job. He also train a lot at the Seafoam Islands, in order to keep strong, and remain a challenge for the younger Pokemon Trainers. One day when he was training at Seafoam Island, he heard about what was going on in Pewter City. not many details, but enough to realize that there were some sort of chaos over there. He hurried back to Fushia City, and into the Pokemon Center. The nurse there said she could heal his Pokemon, but he was unable to use the storrage systems for some reason. That was bad, since he only had his Froslass on him.
Suddenly, the doors opened, and a severed Nidoking, along with its freaked out, panicking trainer, entered the center and demanded immediate attention from the nurse. The Nidoking looked like it had been mauled by a gang og Gyarados, and it wasn't moving.
Skyler didn't understand the whole situation, and he was about to leave when the Nidoking suddenly woke up and started rampaging, trying to eat its trainer. Poor girl.. Skyler would never forget her terrified face as her end drew near. the nurse was next, and Nidoking were about to go after Skyler when he ordered Froslass to use Blizzard, thus freezing the rampage Pokemon. He managed to escape
He eventually heard about the whole episode. there was chaos. just chaos. Zombies, apparently. Like in the movies. and even worse: Zombie-Pokemon. Like the Nidoking.

    NPC Application
    Froslass
    Snow Cloak
    - Confuse Ray
    - Blizzard
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
Froslass is a calm Pokemon. She's headstrong, and is just as helpfull as her trainer.

A former pretty boy turned survivorlist and more importantly you said that he found the knife, which is allowable.
    Dolph Dixon, Approved!

@Zwei: Technically paragraphs need space between them but I can see that there is enough sentences so that is fine.

Skylars history section is a great story but you might want to make a few changes: Instead of him being on Mt. Silver, maybe he was jogging or training around one of the eastern towns in the region? I say that because if he is anywhere near Indigo Plateau, Viridian or Pewter city at this part of the story then Elite 4 or not he is practically guaranteed to be dead already. I also would not recommend trying to get to Johto at this time because on the other side of the plateau, there is another horde of zombies trying to climb (shamble?) up. I did not fully describe those areas yet but they are pretty much warzones on the scale of something out of the movie Braveheart.

It would be interesting to see someone try and survive all of that but for now the RP starts off in mostly easy mode, epic battles come later.

Pokemon shall have access to all of their moves but you may list the 4 ones that you plan on using the most. I am going to say yes on the shinies, although that might make that pokemon a more attractive target for zombies.

How soon do you foresee character interaction? The story seems pretty isolating, in this form, and you mention that epic battles (where I would imagine that all available forces would be) would only come later.

Ahh, now that would depend on how many people sign up for which roles and their numbers. Characters that have HQ's can meet up wth others pretty much right away if they would like. Although an optional event fairly early in the Start up will give everyone an oppurtunity to come together temporarily.

The actual amount of battles between players will depend on how many people join but it is not a requirement in this RP to fight other player controlled characters. Non player characters however (random characters that can be made up and controlled on the spot) can be fought at any time so long as the player keeps the action mostly believable.

It would be neat to see all of the players slug it out in a huge showdown but epic battles refers more to locations that have large numbers of Npc's that would involve a lot of action type writing if your character was not friends with the characters in the area. (for example a zombie on Cinnabar island.)

Reserving a Zombie Lord. And, quick question: would zombie lords have adapted far enough to use weapons themselves or use human speech?

Weapons? Not quite but yes on human speech. I suppose that would also include a form of poke speak, since they can control zombie pokeon too.

    Last minute GM bump!

I also want to note that for all intents and purposes, the story outcome is not predetermined.
