    Default Digimon: Broken Code (SU)

He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster
And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you
    -Friedrich Nietzsche-

The year is 2033. The world has changed, with the old powers fading away, eclipsed by the rising glow of states such as China and India. Global warming is being fought at every turn, with innovation and new technology taking shape to combat the pollution which has blighted the earth. Old conflicts still rage, but are dying out by the year, and with the rising innovations, diseases are on the retreat too, stamped out by new medicines and new treatments.. A few years ago, many would have called this an enlightened age, a golden age of humanity, an age of peace and technology where mankind is greater than ever.

But a few years ago was exactly when the problem began.

The first documented appearances of the creatures known as 'Digimon' began in the year 2026, with the spontaneous appearance and rampage of a creature through Tokyo, Japan. Though the creature was put down with great effort by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, more soon followed, stronger and more dangerous ones which went on cataclysmic rampages through major cities. The death toll climbed more and more every week, leaving more bereft and the damage costs spiralling into the billions within but half a year. The militaries of the world fought valiantly, but even advanced weaponry often failed against the Digimon. What emerged as a countermeasure were the young people dubbed 'Digimon Tamers', humans who had inexplicably partnered with a Digimon and chosen to fight the invaders. With mysterious devices said to appear from the world of the Digimon, these heroic individuals fought the threat, their power rising in response to the escalating might of the threat. Great battles waged in mankind's cities every week as the Digimon appeared and were met by the Tamers, but despite the heroic nature of their intervention, the Tamers only seemed to worsen the problem. Untrained and overenthusiastic, often the Tamers caused much more damage in the process of fighting, and a public terrified for itself pleaded with governments the world over to find a solution. Some suggested turning the Tamers into soldiers, but none knew who the Tamers were, for afraid of a world which saw all Digimon as a threat, the heroes hid themselves away from prying eyes and resisted every effort at conscription.

Regardless, as the death toll heightened and the Digimon tide showed no signs of abating, the pressured governments tried ever-more solutions, diverting funding into research to try and find a way to defeat the endless threat. More chaotic years passed, with cities becoming constant battlefields occupied by military forces on constant standby, and ordinary people fleeing in fear of their lives. Finally, in a city on the west coast of the United States, the discovery was made. A small team of scientists experimenting with Digimon data discovered that it could be fused into human DNA through a freak, but fortunate lab accident. Through further experimentation they determined that doing so, with the influence of a specially developed device exploiting a recently-discovered element theorized to originate from the Digital World, the test subject could transform themselves into a Digimon and change back via the use of the same device. Finally the answer seemed to have been found. Through further experimentation, two test subjects were created, and while one was a rampant success, the other went wrong. The hybridisation was not complete, warping his skin and Digimon data alike and driving him insane. Once the unfortunate subject was disposed of, the scientists determined that a particular rare and otherwise unremarkable mutation caused the hybridisation to go more smoothly and the data to integrate more fully into the subjects, ensuring the stabilisation of the resultant Bio-Hybrid.

With this discovered, the military officials behind the project set to work. The word of a supposed disease located within food dispersed over the country was spread and with it came the pretext for health tests. While allegedly to safeguard against the non-existent disease, in truth, the tests were to locate those bearing the rare mutation which would guarantee their success as Bio-Hybrids. In a month, a small group of subjects from within the USA were located and brought in. Their parents and relatives were informed they had been diagnosed with the rare disease and thus taken into quarantine to avoid the risk of infection, and a few weeks later, distraught family members over the country grieved at the receiving of a letter informing them that their relative had died and their body been cremated to avoid any risk of contamination.

All of this was of course a lie. In truth, the subjects had been brought to a top secret facility, where the surgery to sew their DNA through with data and turn them into human-Digimon hybrids took place. At the end of the process, they were left to heal, until finally the day came when they awoke, feeling no different and seeming no different, but in truth altered to their very cores. They were told immediately that they were no longer human and that they now had but a single purpose: to fight the invading Digimon and protect the public from harm with the power placed inside them and the training they would receive. In the eyes of their handlers, they had ceased being people and had instead become weapons. They were, to the bureaucrats and officers, the first and last defense, the ultimate weapon against the Digimon threat.

Awoken to a world where they are soldiers in a seemingly-endless war, and where they are supposedly humans no more, the Bio-Hybrids can only wonder one thing.

    'What am I?'

    D:BC

We are the Bio-Hybrid subjects, recruited forcibly to act as a defense against the threat of the Digimon. With data sewn into our very DNA through advanced surgery, with the benefit of the device the scientist who created it has dubbed a 'Digivice', we can transform into Digimon to battle. But despite the power this gives us, we are still puppets of the military, isolated from the world and from everything we love, and forced to submit to their commands.

In the end, will we fight for this side forever, obeying our orders to the end? Or will we try our best to break the shackles that bind us and use our newfound power to gain freedom once more?

    D:BC

    Terminology:

Digivice: A strange, bare device designed by Stephen Lloyd, the eccentric head scientist of the Bio-Hybrid project, the Digivice serves to stimulate the Digimon data within a Bio-Hybrid's system and thus ignite the transformation into Digimon form. It can be used to change between forms, and also acts as a communicator allowing its holder to contact any other Digivice or certain other communications systems. A GPS beacon is also built into the Digivice to allow its holder to be located at all times. However, the device in itself can be used as a restraining bolt on its holder, as there is a built-in failsafe allowing a hybrid's Digimon form to be forcibly reverted to human by signal from base if it is deemed necessary. The shock of this forced reversion will knock the hybrid unconscious, rendering them an easy target for capture or worse. Officially the device's name is 'Bio-Hybrid Transformation Unit', but Lloyd himself dubbed it a Digivice and will not stop calling it such regardless of objections.

Digimon: Strange creatures from a digital world, Digimon are made of data. In the 'real' world, they synthesize false proteins to take on a 'real' form, allowing them to interact with the human world while retaining all of their abilities. Digimon come in many shapes and sizes, with the power levels of different species varying widely, and are ranked in six levels: Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega, though there are suggestions that there may even be levels beyond Mega, and even within these levels the power of individual Digimon varies widely. Digimon are able to Digivolve into more powerful Digimon as they grow and gain more power, though the exact mechanics behind it are unknown.

Bio-Hybrids: Humans whose DNA has been supplemented by Digimon data, they can transform into Digimon via the use of a Digivice. Though technically any human could be surgically altered into a Bio-Hybrid, a rare mutation which occurs in a small percentage of the population renders the process easier and more likely to be successful, according to Dr. Lloyd's work, and as such those with this mutation have been specifically sought out to become Bio-Hybrids by the military. There are at present two generations of Bio-Hybrids, the first consisting of the single remaining test subject of the two originals, and the second of the recently-recruited hybrids. All the Bio-Hybrids have a GPS transmitter implanted into their arm to allow their handlers to be sure of their whereabouts at all times.

    Gender: (Male or Female?)
Appearance: (What does your character look like physically? This must be four lines or more, and should also include any aesthetic differences in your character's Digimon form from the usual appearance of that Digimon.)
Personality: (What is your character like as a person? Four or more lines, please.)

I'll reserve a spot with Wizardmon please.

Also, awesome beginning quote is awesome.

EDIT: I think I got my character done, I will gladly change anything that needs to be changed.

    Name: Dimitri Leoncavallo
    Age: 19
    Gender: Male
Appearance: A tall and lanky individual, Dimitri has a crooked grin going from ear to ear, small piercings going through his cut and chapped lips. Some strands of his short dark brown hair commonly getting in Dimitri's dark blue eyes. His face, besides for a few scars here and there, is relatively normal save for a larger nose when compared to others, but who doesn't like a bit of size?

For clothing, Dimitri chooses to don a rather fancy set of clothes, choosing to wear a white long-sleeved dress shirt, with a dark crimson vest buttoned up over this, and of course, a black bow tie for more fancy pants-ness. Speaking of fancy pants, Dimitri wears a pair of black trousers, studded with a few red buttons, and because he couldn't really be running around shoeless, Dimitri has a pair of dark grey dress shoes. To finish off his outfit, Dimitri has a white belt with a gold buckle, his Digivice on his left side, and a pack of playing cards on his right.

Dimitri's Digimon Formes are similar to the norm of their species, except for their eye colour becoming the same as his regular eyes, and of course his scars and piercings.

Personality: Dimitri's life of being raised on the streets, has obviously led to him having a few problems. He's mostly known for his, let's say, colourful distaste of the higher powers that be, partly from how they'd always end up ruining the card games he was running in his youth, or the fact that they up and, pretty much, kidnapped him. This "distaste" has led to him graffiting most of the government property he comes across, which has also led to him being repeatedly being "reprimanded" for his antics.

This life has also led him to try and be sneaky when ever he can be, deception and distraction were highly useful in his old life before he was given such a great gift courtesy of the US of A, so he will try his best to incorporate these old skills into what ever he might be doing, which is made hard due to his Arm GPS.

When in the company of his fellow constitutes, Dimitri will always try to make them laugh with his bizarre, sarcastic and rather callous sense of humour, joking about the flaws of the enemy and friend alike.

History: Dimitri never knew his parents, he always heard rumours that his mother was a whore, or that he was some sort of Prom night dumpster baby, these rumours never seemed to affect a young Dimitri, who found great fun in the hand he had been dealt. Sure, it was a rough beginning, but it helped form him in his now, what he thinks is, hilarious persona.

Now, while he grew up on the streets mostly, he did tend to jump from house to house, staying for a few weeks to get some food in his stomach, and some walking around money maybe. He never wanted to stay too long, he felt that these families would only hamper on his exciting adventures on the streets.

Around the age of eleven or so, Dimitri found two quick and easy way of making money. First one, and the most easy was to set up Monte Card games, and con the living daylights of those stupid enough to attempt to play such a game. The second way, was a bit more risky, and in Dimitri's mind, a bit more fun. It was to simply pickpocket the money out of people's pockets. Make some sort of distraction, and quickly grab the money and walk away. While this did work out a bit, he did tend to get a bit more attention from the local authorities then he'd like.

Now cut a few years later, Dimitri's living the dream mostly, sure he'd been in a few fights, and a few nights in jail cells for a few fights he had started, but it made him happy. But then, of course, the man had to put a stop to that worse then a few nights in jail. These so called "Scientists" claimed that he had a terrible, deadly disease, and that to help the local community, he had to come with them, AND that he would be compensated for his time. Well, seeing how he's got nothing in his pockets except for some lint, you can guess that he wasn't really pleased with their experimentation, and he was DEFINITELY not pleased with the news that he couldn't leave. So now he's just waiting out his days, waiting for his time to come and leave his horrid place.

    Digimon Form: Wizardmon.

    Higher Form(s): Myotismon, Piedmon.
    Lower Form(s): Keramon

Other: With all the time Dimitri has spent with playing cards, he has picked up a bit on how to throw them, not as a weapon, that'd be completely stupid, but as a way of releasing some steam.

He also has a slight Bostonian accent.

Qwjbjbwasn't expecting to join another RP at the moment, but this looks like it's got the right stuff. Sign me on with Frigimon - I can almost guarantee I won't have a SU within the next few days, but definitely between Thursday and early Saturday. Gotta tend to other things and skim lore I haven't been up-to-date on in close to 8 years.

It's to beat up other people for their hats and jackets.

So I decided to go with two characters in the end, to sort of explore the opposite ends of the morality spectrum here. So could I get another reserve, please? I also finally settled on the Digimon forms, which are Liamon -> Loader Liomon -> Bantyo Liomon and Dobermon -> Cerberumon -> Beelzebumon. Thanks~

Okay, I have my first character done.

    Name: Nicholas “Nick” Barlow
    Age: 21
    Gender: Male
Appearance: Nick is a skinny guy of a fairly average height for a man of his age. He doesn’t have big muscles to boast of, but he’s fairly fast on his feet and flexible, albeit not in the best shape. He has a fair skin tone and short, neat, light-brown hair. He’s always clean shaven and has trouble growing facial hair even if he wanted to. He has light grey eyes which always seem thoughtful.

Ever since moving to California, Nick’s taken to wearing grey, black-trimmed shorts with a black t-shirt, due to the warm weather, which he wasn’t used to back in England. He also wears a pair of white running shoes, but he rarely does any actual running in them. He wears a watch on his left hand, as he’s left-handed. He keeps his blue and red digivice and a swiss army knife in his shorts’ pockets, where he usually puts his hands when idle. The knife was likely confiscated when he became a subject.

He retains his grey eye colour in his digimon forms.

Personality: Nick is generally a well-intentioned, charismatic young man who isn’t afraid to voice his opinions. This is reflected by his eagerness to join student unions. He also likes to be involved in politics. He’s a bit leery of establishments and he is pretty liberal-minded. While Nick is pretty bright, he’s not the most physical guy. He’s generally nice and is a staunch supporter of the underdog. However, ever since he became a test subject and turned into a bio-hybrid, he’s been filled with rage and resentment at those who did this to him. He’s torn between this anger towards the government and the anger at the digimon who seem to be attacking them for no reason, like what happened in London. Nick typically uses his brain to solve his problems instead of his brawn. He’s become quite cynical from the situation and he hates what he’s become.

History: Nick was born in the Fulham area of Hammersmith, a borough in London, England. His parents were wealthy enough to send him to a private school within London. When the digimon outbreaks started when he was fourteen, London became a warzone and the civilian population was evacuated. The Barlows moved to Loughborough in Leicestershire, as they heard the larger cities were more affected by the digimon. There, he continued his education. He successfully completed secondary school as well as his A-levels, and was a vocal part of the student union in his secondary school, helping to organize fundraising and relief efforts. As the years went by, the threat of digimon became a commonality of daily life. It was the Blitz spirit, many joked. He went on to Cambridge University where he had a focus in government and politics and joined the Labour Students. While the threat of digimon was still very real, and there were many drills and safety protocols still in place, not to mention the vast amount of military roaming the island, daily life went on.

After two years of learning, there was a series of explosions in the city of Cambridge, and his parents urged him to move somewhere where there was a greater military presence. Though reluctant, he agreed to move to California and he transferred to the University of California in Berkeley, California. There, he continued his education with political science and he eventually ran for the position of student council president. Nick made several friends there, and he even had a girlfriend. Aside from the military presence and the occasional feeling of unease, life went on as he knew it. That is, until the university announced a state-mandated medical examination. When the results came back, he was taken away to a medical facility and the British embassy was told the same lie that the subjects’ families were given. When Nick realized the truth, he was outraged and tried to escape time and time again. After each failed escape attempt being coupled with electrocution, he reluctantly gave up, but his anger and resentment at the US government, military, and everybody else involved never faded.

    Digimon Form: Aquilamon
Higher Form(s): MailBirdramon, Ornismon, Gryphomon (as a slide evolution)
    Lower Form(s): Hawkmon, Poromon, Pururumon
Other: He retains his London accent in his digimon form.

    --

    Name: Violet Hawke
    Age: 19
    Gender: Female
Appearance: Violet is about 5’9” in height. She has a lean, athletic build needed for competitive swimming. She has a barely noticeable tan on her Caucasian skin tone. She has medium length blonde hair that does down her back just past her shoulders. Violet has bright blue eyes and there’s always a smile on her face.

For clothing, Violet wears tight, low rise, blue jeans on which she keeps her white and red digivice. She also wears a white, spaghetti-strap tank top that exposes her midriff. She likes the comfort of the clothes and, of course, enjoys the fact that they accentuate her body. For footwear, she just wears white walking shoes. For accessories, she has a silver bracelet that she wears around her right wrist.

Her digimon forms are leaner and more feminine. They also retain her blue eye colour. Her MirageGaogamon Burst Mode form has longer and softer hair.

Personality: Violet is a very upbeat, energetic and cheery individual. She seems to be constantly in a good mood. She’s also very adaptive and she copes incredibly well to even the most drastic of changes, sometimes to the point where people think there’s something wrong with her or that she doesn’t understand the implications of the situation. Violet is also very social and playful. She could be described as something of a flirt. Despite peoples’ first impressions of her, Violet’s actually pretty bright as well as athletic. However, her lack of worries tends to make her more prone to errors in judgement, so she doesn’t always think of the consequences to actions. This, combined with her love of a challenge, can sometimes make for volatile situations. Even after becoming a bio-hybrid, she doesn’t appear to be too altered by the massive shift thanks to her optimistic nature.

History: Violet was born in Berkeley, California in the United States. She grew up with her parents and two older brothers. She lived a pretty standard life, but that’s not something she would complain about. Violet attended elementary and middle school. She always loved whenever her family went to the beach. She liked to swim, and one of her brothers attempted to teach her to surf, with moderate success. Around the time she was twelve, the digimon started appearing and the United States was thrown into war. Luckily for her, Berkeley wasn’t as affected as the more populous cities in California like Los Angeles or San Diego. However, there was still the odd digimon appearance here and there. Violet adapted to the changes pretty well, getting used to the safety drills and such. She attended high school and became an important member of the swim team. She graduated with honours and was accepted into the University of California in her city. While she hadn’t declared a major yet, she joined the university’s swim team as well. The oldest of her brothers joined the military in the war against the digimon and he’s currently serving in a support role. Then one day, the university had the students take the medical test, and she was found to have the mutant gene and she was taken away to the military’s secret facilities and made into a bio-hybrid. While initially incredibly shocked at the drastic change, she actually seems to be handling it very well.

If there's still room, I'd like to try my hand at this. I do need to write more, and it'll be good to write an SU again.

I'm looking at Puttimon > Cupimon > Tinkermon > Petermon > Astamon > Baalmon, if that's all right. I liked the angel to trickster to demon thing.

I've figured out the digievolution(...my autocorrect has "digievolution" in its dictionary.) line. Pagumon -> Tsukaimon -> Devidramon -> Megadramon -> Gaiomon, with Darkdramon as a slide that I'd like to achieve before Gaiomon. Is that okay?

Suddenly the aim of the Pokémon games is apparent. It isn't to catch them all, or to be the best trainer, or to learn about the values of friendship with strange monsters that can breathe fire and whatnot.

It's to beat up other people for their hats and jackets.

Ooh, is this a Digimon anthro RP? If so, I'm interested.

I must say, I am 110% against this action, I mean, quoting Wikipedia, '' A world of free knowledge will be lost ''. I say screw SOPA and PIPA, and all who agrees with me, sig this! We all detest the bill and will fight for the freedom of the Internet!

This is Bidoof. Many people loathe it with their lives. If you are of the few people who love this little beaver, put this in your sig. Started by Warrior Scolipede

Wayjun: That ought to be fine, though in that case Darkdramon would be the main Mega and Gaiomon would be the Slide. But yeah, it's fine.

MugoUrth: It's based on the Bio-Hybrid concept from Digimon Savers/Data Squad, where humans get altered by SCIENCE so that with special Digivices, they can turn into Digimon. I essentially was really intrigued by the Bio-Hybrids as a concept because of some of the ethical and thematic implications so I came up with this a while back and I've had it stewing away until now. But essentially, it's humans turning into Digimon to fight Digimon. And stuff.
