Sun, sand and surf... You are seated on a warm, peaceful beach stretching along the coast of a deserted island. Not a sound can be heard but for the wind and the lapping of the waves. You have (virtually) no cares in the world. Arcology Island: however much you had never wanted to go back there, it appears to you, for one fleeting moment, to be a true paradise on earth.
And then several hundred Pokémon, all of different species and all breathing fire, shooting water, inducing million-volt shocks, causing rock slides, earthquakes and other highly unnatural disasters, and just simply saying friendly hellos to one another.
You haven't the faintest idea what drove you to get up at 5:30 in the morning to go on a cruise around the world with no one but a pack of wild, fantastically powered creatures for company. After that first journey ended, you had been escorted home, collected a rather fat paycheque from your boss at SEREBII, and used the money to try and regain some semblance of a normal life. You paid your rent and your bills, splurged on food for a few days and went back to college. You were proud of having saved that civilization from the Glitches. But all in all, you hoped to never have to go through that kind of madhouse again.
Actually, maybe you only started thinking that because of the phone calls. One night, someone with a very artificial voice had rung you up, from out of the blue, and informed you that you had won a cruise. Obviously a bogus offer. Well, the night after that, the same thing happened again. And again. A robotic telemarketer almost used up all your cell-phone minutes. You started seeing commercials for this cruise on your TV and ads for it in the magazines. They were everywhere.
And then the letter came.
Addressed to you, and written on what appeared to be a real piece of parchment. You would have just thrown it out along with all the rest of your junk mail, but something seemed oddly... engaging about it. As if it had drawn you inward at a single glance.
Ahoy there, me hearties!
Do you long to sail upon the Cerulean seas? Mingle with the multitudes in Mahogany Town? Indulge in icy, idyllic Icirrus? Roam through Rustboro? Experience Eterna, go to Gateon, witness the wonders of White City? Look no further. Because tomorrow begins an adventure of global proportions.
Honouring your participation , you are cordially invited on a cruise around the world. Eighty days will pass before your return, so please pack wisely. Remember to stock up on Potions, Full Restores and whatever other gear is necessary for battle. Even though this is a cruise, who is to say a race will not be on?
We understand that you may be skeptical about this message. Erase those thoughts immediately. Muster all your trust and your courage. Unlock it. Summon it... please? Tomorrow, we set sail. This is your last and final chance to get in on the action.
All travellers must be gathered at the main Arcology Island beach by noon tomorrow. Lunch will be provided just before our departure. Kindly present the attached ticket to our Chief of Security prior to your embarkation.
All cruisers are welcome to bring three unevolved Pokémon to accompany them on this expedition. Legendaries are forbidden, as are any other Pokémon incapable of evolving in the future; Generation VI will remain off limits for the time being as well.
Only one member of each species is permitted on board. Noah's Ark has been suffering some serious budget cuts.
~ THE CAPTAIN
Well, that was an offer you just couldn't refuse. Before long, you found yourself inexplicably stumbling to your bedroom, packing up enough clothes for the next... well, all your clothes, basically. And of course, you don't forget to bring your Pokémon, either. Funny how these things work out.
Before the story continues, I would strongly advise everyone to select a team of three Pokémon. Remember, they must be unevolved, but capable of evolving at some point in the future, and they cannot be from Gen VI.
