    Default Arcology: World Tour

    PROLOGUE
Sun, sand and surf... You are seated on a warm, peaceful beach stretching along the coast of a deserted island. Not a sound can be heard but for the wind and the lapping of the waves. You have (virtually) no cares in the world. Arcology Island: however much you had never wanted to go back there, it appears to you, for one fleeting moment, to be a true paradise on earth.

And then several hundred Pokémon, all of different species and all breathing fire, shooting water, inducing million-volt shocks, causing rock slides, earthquakes and other highly unnatural disasters, and just simply saying friendly hellos to one another.

You haven't the faintest idea what drove you to get up at 5:30 in the morning to go on a cruise around the world with no one but a pack of wild, fantastically powered creatures for company. After that first journey ended, you had been escorted home, collected a rather fat paycheque from your boss at SEREBII, and used the money to try and regain some semblance of a normal life. You paid your rent and your bills, splurged on food for a few days and went back to college. You were proud of having saved that civilization from the Glitches. But all in all, you hoped to never have to go through that kind of madhouse again.

Actually, maybe you only started thinking that because of the phone calls. One night, someone with a very artificial voice had rung you up, from out of the blue, and informed you that you had won a cruise. Obviously a bogus offer. Well, the night after that, the same thing happened again. And again. A robotic telemarketer almost used up all your cell-phone minutes. You started seeing commercials for this cruise on your TV and ads for it in the magazines. They were everywhere.

    And then the letter came.

Addressed to you, and written on what appeared to be a real piece of parchment. You would have just thrown it out along with all the rest of your junk mail, but something seemed oddly... engaging about it. As if it had drawn you inward at a single glance.

    Ahoy there, me hearties!

Do you long to sail upon the Cerulean seas? Mingle with the multitudes in Mahogany Town? Indulge in icy, idyllic Icirrus? Roam through Rustboro? Experience Eterna, go to Gateon, witness the wonders of White City? Look no further. Because tomorrow begins an adventure of global proportions.

Honouring your participation , you are cordially invited on a cruise around the world. Eighty days will pass before your return, so please pack wisely. Remember to stock up on Potions, Full Restores and whatever other gear is necessary for battle. Even though this is a cruise, who is to say a race will not be on?

We understand that you may be skeptical about this message. Erase those thoughts immediately. Muster all your trust and your courage. Unlock it. Summon it... please? Tomorrow, we set sail. This is your last and final chance to get in on the action.

All travellers must be gathered at the main Arcology Island beach by noon tomorrow. Lunch will be provided just before our departure. Kindly present the attached ticket to our Chief of Security prior to your embarkation.

All cruisers are welcome to bring three unevolved Pokémon to accompany them on this expedition. Legendaries are forbidden, as are any other Pokémon incapable of evolving in the future; Generation VI will remain off limits for the time being as well.

Only one member of each species is permitted on board. Noah's Ark has been suffering some serious budget cuts.

    Enjoy!
    ~ THE CAPTAIN

Well, that was an offer you just couldn't refuse. Before long, you found yourself inexplicably stumbling to your bedroom, packing up enough clothes for the next... well, all your clothes, basically. And of course, you don't forget to bring your Pokémon, either. Funny how these things work out.

Before the story continues, I would strongly advise everyone to select a team of three Pokémon. Remember, they must be unevolved, but capable of evolving at some point in the future, and they cannot be from Gen VI.

    TUTORIAL (FOR NEW CRUISERS!)
Face-Offs in the Arcology series are quite long, seeing as we have to go through and eliminate all Pokémon except for the very best. Therefore, the Arcology series omits the traditional hurt/heal system. Instead, in each round of the Face-Off, people will be presented with a list of categories, each featuring a group of Pokémon. An example of such a list is shown below.

    "Strongest:
    Most popular:
    Most friendly:
    Most attractive:
    Most bored: "

Obviously, the strength, popularity and friendliness of a Pokémon are not well-defined base stats! In this example, it is up to the voters to decide:
    - Which Pokémon, out of Articuno, Zapdos or Moltres, they consider to be the strongest.
    - Which Pokémon, out of Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, they consider the most popular.
    - Which Pokémon, out of Cobalion, Terrakion or Virizion, they would imagine to be friendliest, and so on.

Voters would then submit a vote that looks like this:
    "Strongest:
    Most popular:
    Most friendly:
    Most attractive:
    Most bored: "

Every 2-3 days, a new round will be posted and all votes for the previous round will be added up. Whichever Pokémon received the fewest votes in each category will be eliminated from the Face-Off. All others will carry over into future rounds, in which even more new Pokémon will be introduced. And it gets more complicated than that, but I'll explain it more as we go along.

Default Day One (Prologue): Camera Obscura

This is the first official round in which eliminations will be made; sorry it was so long coming. Hereafter, updates will be every three days or so (I said two originally, but I've got real-life tasks). Make this one count!

After a long, long delay, you finally manage to find your cabin. It's cramped and oddly shaped. The sheets appear to be covered in sludge from a Poison Pokémon's previous adventures And what do you know? There is already a brawl of epic proportions going on right outside your door. You grab your camera and decide to film the action.

    "I'm the most well-known, OK?"
"Give me a break. I mean, what are you even supposed to be, anyway? A watered-down scorpion?"
"...says the Water-type. I will be recognized! I shall one day gain my comeuppance!"
*gnashes teeth madly, threatening to tear to pieces, using its jaws, anyone who opposes it*

Yup. It's going to be a long trip around the world, all right.

EDIT (May 28): Sorry, but with full-time commitments on most days of the week, I'm having trouble finding the motivation to write the long, descriptive posts of yore. The introduction should be out this week, though.

Remember, you get to pick only one, and whichever receives the fewest votes will be eliminated. Choose wisely.

...And the first one goes down. See you later, Gorebyss! Hope you have enjoyed this fascinating journey. All the best.

The brief scuffle is over as quickly as it had begun, and Gorebyss is vanquished. It is escorted to the nearest window, where it clambers out, shuffles along a plank mounted outside the window and jumps out, presumably returning to the beach. Moving to your own window and glancing sideways at the massive vessel, you quickly discover that every window on the ship is equipped with a fully functional plank. Like diving boards or loose twigs, planks extend from every corner of the ship, from bow to stern, from hull to bridge; checking a suspicious-looking "fire safety" map on your wall, you see that there is a plank sticking out of its exhaust hose. They're cheery reminders of the fate that will await all but one of the cruisers, aren't they?

Before you can form another sarcastic thought, a loud ding! echoes through your cabin. You recognize the sound all too well, though you hadn't heard it since the 99th Floor of a certain nearby tower. The idle chatter drifting through your walls dies away at once as Pokémon on all decks are summoned to attention, and a calm, monotonous voice rings from a loudspeaker on your wall.

"Greetings," it says. "This is your Captain speaking for the H.M.S. Bios. Welcome to the Arcology's World Tour."

After getting that over-the-top letter, you were expecting the Captain to sound just a little more entertaining. So far, his voice reminds you of a telemarketer who has just discovered he can't carry out a solid pirate accent.

"All our guests have now embarked; if you do not intend to proceed on this voyage, we must kindly ask you to leave now. We will be setting sail momentarily.

"Our first port of call will be Sunyshore City, Sinnoh. If you get there--" Here, the Captain coughs in a clearly forced way. "--excuse me, when we get there, I highly recommend that you all sample the local delicacies offered at its seaside cafés; I found them appetizing. In the meantime, it's time to buckle up for three days at sea.

The loudspeaker fizzles out, but quickly returns to life.
"And one final note," the Captain's voice adds. "Horseplay and roughhousing on any part of this ship will be... encouraged."

Well, it doesn't take long for that rule to sink in. You step outside your cabin and glance down the hall. There are four other cabins within your sight. In three of them, vicious brawls are already stirring behind open doors, and loud screams are coming from the TV in the fourth cabin, no doubt because its occupants are watching a DVD of a clean, wholesome family film: XenoNuclear Psychos.

Glancing into the three remaining cabins, you see motley crews of Pokémon massed beside the windows, struggling in battles of brute physical force and just dying to make somebody walk the plank.
