That's it!! We've given these idiots dozens of chances! I'm done with this show!! I'm moving on to the comics...

But all in all, I'm so disappointed, why have the main character never get any development that is useful? My God I'd rather they play the 'Thinks he is unbeatable and then gets but handed to him for being cocky' card, heck, at least trim down some of the happy go lucky crap they've been feeding us the past eight years, everything was perfect before they started with three year regions.

This has inspired me to start up a new thread.
You probably don't see me around anymore. I spend most of my time at Toon Zone forums now.

BOO! Abolish Takeshi's Pokémon Quiz! *shakes fist*

First of all, the animation in this episode was absolutly appalling. The characters were often off model and never looked half as impressive as they should have, ESPECIALLY for a final tornament match. That in itself is just shameful, and I'm even more frustrated at the fact that the following episode looks set to have BETTER animation than this one. They should seriously consider getting their priorities right. The only thing I can say that impressed me in terms of animation, were the CG effects used, but even those were pretty mdeiocre.

The fact that Sceptile was KO'd almost instantly was unforgivable, and was just bad writing. They could have EASILY had a decent grudge match between it and Grovyle, and although it may sound like a horrid cliché, it would have been a lot more preferable a scenario.
I feel sorry for the spectators. To see two pokémon faint THAT quickly can't have been too exciting.

Torkoal won a battle. Thats a plus.
The battle it won was crap and only lasted a few seconds. Thats a minus.
If they were going to have Torkoal win anything, they should have made it good. They failed. Torkoal = never getting any redemption.

Hariyama's voice was actually quite amusing imo. I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't help but smirk every time it uttered "Huuritae!". And the way it ploughed through Torkoal's Flamethrower using its hands was, admitedly, pretty neat.
I also liked when Corphish darted like greased lightning across the field and underneath Hariyama before landing that Crabhammer. Though the fact that it was KO within SECONDS of being released from its pokéball sucked. At the time of writing this, I actually forgot Corphish had taken any part in this battle at all.

Swellow is Ash's best Houen pokémon. He's better than Grovyle, and no, I'm not afraid to say that. Swellow is a freakin' juggernaut, and it brings a tear to my eye that a bird pokémon has performed so incredibly well throughout the entire Houen region. I HAVE to give the writers of this show credit for that at least. The fact that this guy is able to be thrown into a rock with incredible force, still manage to get up without a scratch, take a whopping 3 Rollout attacks in a row and still manage to take down 2 pokémon in succession is pure brilliance. Not to mention its last ditch effort at attacking Metagross by actually breaking free of its Psychic grasp, and damaging the metallic uber by inflicting a painful looking dent in its steel body. Yay indeed. Swellow definatly MADE this episode.

Its a shame Grovyle didn't get similar treatment. Half the time it just seemed to be floating in mid-air (no lie) firing off Bullet Seed attacks. A yawn-enducing scene I'm sure.

    Meowth: "Uwaaa! Kakoi nya!!"
I found that part to be rather cute
I loved the way Meowth was all teary eyed and impressed over Boots' performance in the match. Its a shame that the match itself wasn't particulary good. I didn't like the fact that so much stock footage and reused animation sequences were put into play. Bah.
I'd have really liked to have seen both Meowths interact a little before the end of the episode at least, but alas, they couldn't even do that for any of the human characters. Sucks don't it?

Overall, this episode was pretty dire as predicted. The battles went by in the blink of an eye, and the fact that they didn't really look that good just added to the pain. There were a few decent moments here and there to be quite fair, but it doesn't make up for the fact that this was a really horrid way in ending the Houen region.

I wonder what complicated process of events causes the writers to rush the leagues like this these days, or if they plan it from the start...

I find it interesting that they had Max note Ash came in the same place as in Johto, any chance we can see what else was said in this conversation? Of course admitting to such similarities doesn't make it good story telling but it is better than ignoring it.

On the one hand, I never had high expectations, never believed much that Ash would win this league, especially with only his Hoenn region Pokemon, so I'm not really disappointed at all. We got some incredible matches, especially the one against Kaede (if only all of them could be that good), and as similar as it was to the end of Johto it still wasn't all the same. At least they broke the tradition of having the person Ash loses to lose the next round. ^_^ And really, considering that Ash was using mostly Pokemon he had had only since arriving in Hoenn, it just goes to show how much he has improved skill-wise in being able to come in the same place as he did in Johto, where he used Pokemon he had had for a much longer time.

Indeed, I'm more disappointed to hear about the bad animation than anything else. I understand schedules and all but you'd think the writers would have really important episodes be the ones slated for the best animation teams to do, while the least important fillers would get the worst ones. I mean that's what was done in Yu Yu Hakusho. They used great animation through the tournament in that show, then once it was over reverted to a very poorly animated episode to balance how much money it must have taken to do the tournament.

But ignoring all that, I say all hail Swellow! The Juggernaut! I love that bird! He alone made this league worthwhile IMHO.

That was perhaps the worst final match of a league i have ever seen. The Richy-Ash was bad too but the idea was new (totally forgivable). Ash-Harrison is way better than this because:
Two great pokemon battle in the end
Smart to leave their most powerful pokemon behind

Ash and Tetasuya's final pokemon: pikachu and meowth (wow, such big and bulky pokemon).
The writers have done a good job in both surprising me as well as doing a sh#t job.
The writers are A class idiots. I severly ****** right now.

Gives a clap to the writers and then raise a glass wine commending them on a great job. Clap, clap, clap.

Here is the whole of Torkoals battles in picture form.

Nice comeback though, it was losing at one point so comback is a good side. But what is this?

Alfonso wasn't sure but he said Fissure which sounds right but just to clarify.

But upside even Corphish(Ashs quite strong pokemon ish) lost to the same pokemon which shows Hariama was powerful.

the writers missed their opportunity to let torkoal learn better moves. They are UNABLE to make up a battle with a tanking pokemon like torkoal. Seriously..it just sat there and shot flamethrower after flamethrower. its jump was the only highlight...and that s a problem with torkoal in almost every battle ( its battle against lombre was SO cool but an exception *sob*).

I really like the cute turtle-guy, but the writers made its battles really boring. I think it is better for it to go to prof. oak..poor torkoal need a hug..

I only seen the pictures and some the battles were interesting, but I say overall disappointing.

I felt sorry for Grovyle. It got knocked out pretty fast.

Torkoal was awesome. Yes! It would of been better if Ash won the damn battle. (I mean overall match)

Swellow, damn go you! It beat Hariyama and Donphan. The pics were impresssive.

Corphish, poor crabby, looks like it couldn't stay long either.

Pikachu battle with Metagross was quick n' sweet. The end battle with Pikachu and Meowth was cool, except the fact Pikachu lost. (I bet all the Pikachu haters are happy for this one.) In my opinion, they should of both fainted. There it would of brought an interesting twist how the league deal with tied matches in the quarter finals.

Wow and Teyasuna won the whole thing. Well if wasn't the after battle when Ash, he lost too. One question, did he battle all in the same day or it's few days later?

Anyways, the writers rushed it the whole league. The battles looked to me that it lasted a minute. If they want to bring a good league, maybe the writers could take their time to make a few episodes longer, and the battle more enjoyable to watch. Right at this point, I'm getting sort of lost where they're going at.

As the song Hollerback from Gwen Stafani would say:

THIS **** IS BANANAS, B-A-N-A-N-A-S! THIS **** IS BANANAS, B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Again, THIS **** IS BANANAS, B-A-N-A-N-A-S! THIS **** IS BANANAS, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Argh! Forgive me, fellow members, but I'm sick and tired of Swellow! Okay, yes, we get it, it's STRONG. It has fantastic endurance! But we've known that ever since the Winnona fight! It's like... they can't go a battle without having Swellow last against 2-3 opponents or 1 especially tough cookie. I understand that this is complimentary to Swellow's skilzz0rs, but I would like it if they didn't put so much focus on the bird.

One might say "Shut up! It's great that a bird is getting such attention after being screwed over with Pidgeot and Noctowl!" Hey! I'm okay with returning some of the mojo to our fine feathered friends, but I'm pretty sure we've gone over the side of the glass already.

EDIT: Eh, ignore that. The Hariyama vs. Swellow battle impressed me enough to give the bird a break.

I feel the same way about Glalie, except with him, odds are he'll join the ranks of Muk, Kingler, and the like: tossed into storage. With that outlook it isn't too bad. Yet, I didn't realize how much power Glalie had gained until it fought of Solarbeam with a frickkin' Ice Beam!

In any case, it may be too late now, what with Hoenn finished, to do anything about it. There needs to be some seriously hardcore Torkoal training going on. I actually feel bad for it.

Mah Gawd, I'm back. And none of you will remember me, but boo hoo anyway.

Now, if my ideas are right and Testsu-whatsu (WHAT? I've not read anything on Pokemon in the past 3 months. Shoot me for not knowing his name) won the Hoenn League, Ash was defeated by the winner, and therefore stood the hardest battle in the quarter finals, yet very nearly won. Now, all that should mean Ash finished 5th overall.

In Johto, he lost to Harrison who lost in the Semi Final. By rights, that means Ash did not face the toughest opponent in the Quarter Finals, and he could not have finished 5th overall using the same reasoning.

All in all, Ash did better this time round then in the previous 2 tournaments.

Just watched the episode. A great battle! So intense, I loved it!

Glalie VS Sceptile was over fast but at least that was Sceptile out of the way incase Tetsuya wanted to use it later in the battle.

Torkoal VS Shiftry...thank God Torkoal won! Winning is pretty rare these days when it comes to Torkoal, at least it was given a break this time.

Torkoal VS Hariyama, Hariyama defeated Torkoal quite easily, I wanted to see some Overheating action but it was a good idea for Hariyama to block Flamethrower with its hands, Ash should've commanded Overheat, it wouldn't have hurt to at least try it.

Corphish VS Hariyama...why?! Not even I would send Corphish out if I had Swellow for use, Ash wasted his chance with Corphish he could've used it later on.

Swellow VS Hariyama was great, I thought Swellow would've been done with when it was thrown against the rock but good ol' Swellow rose to the challenge and whipped Hariyama! Great use of Aerial Ace.

Swellow VS Donphan was excellent, great use of its speed. Swellow was hit with a lot of Rollout's but it got up and fought til it could! It was great how Swellow stopped Donphan with its feet and flew up then dropped it. Donphan phailed!

Swellow VS Metagross was kinda fast, Swellow should have used Aerial Ace on the dent to wear it down some more.

Grovyle VS Metagross was an OK battle, good use of Bullet Seed but I was waiting for Ash to just get Grovyle to Leaf Blade the damn dent! If it weren't for Meteor Mash we would've seen the 2 halves of a Metagross....

Pikachu VS Metgross was great, Metagross is quite a fast mover when it gets going with Agility! Great use of Iron Tail but that Metagross just wasn't gonna be beaten. Good thing a Thunder cleared that lil problemo up.

And finally Pikachu VS Meowth, a great battle, so intense! I predicted that Thunderbolt would counter Thunderbolt, Iron Tail would counter Iron Tail etc. it made to battle that much harder for both trainers. I love Iron Tail ^_^ it was used a lot so I'm happy.
Tetsuya's Meowth wasn't one for giving up but we've seen what lengths it goes to to win a battle (VS Persian)

    Overall 9.6/10
Excellent episode, one of the best Hoenn League episodes. The ending was too short just clapping etc. I would have liked it if Ash had won the battle but there's always the D/P League!

    I liked episode.

A battle between Ash and Tetsuya was really fantastic. I think, it was the best battle on league ever.

Tetsuya as a winner. Awwww...... He was so happy^^

I'm wondering, what will happen with Masamune and Tetsuya. Next episode is about Agatha. Oh well....

What about Swellow vs Donphan? I thought it was quite well done, considering the types disadvantage. I know type disadvantages dont necessarily count in the anime but still...

You would have thought Ash would have learned his lesson about Corphish vs Hariyama after the Dewford gym battle but he coulod have lasted a bit longer IMO.

Type disadvantage? Swellow was the one with an advantidge over Donphan(Donphan is a Ground type, Swellow's Flying/Normal, Flying is immune to Ground moves)...unless that's what you were referring to, in which case, forget it :P Or unless you were referring to Rollout(which is a Rock move)...

yeah, I think he was referring to rollout. It was pretty cool how swellow won against donphan after getting hit by an attack that keeps getting stronger with every hit and a type advantage over it.
