They're both sharks so they're both related in the sense that they're in the same species, just a different breed. It's like Caterpie, Wurmple, and Weedle are all three different types of Worms. Pidgey, Starly, HootHoot, and Taillow are all different types of birds. Magikarp, Goldeen, Feebas, and Finneon are all fish and so on and so forth into forever.

The real world equivalent of it would be something like dogs. You have a Poodle and then you have a Chihuahua. They look vastly different but they're both members of the same species.

The Gible line and Sharpedo are based off sharks, so they look similar, but nothing else about them is related.

Rayquaza and Gyarados are related, they both snaky dragon things!

see the logic, similar =/= same.

Its possible you never know I always thought beedrill line was related to the vespiquen line. Since there were a few roaming outside of the vespiquen nest in that vespiquen episode there possibly distant relatives,
