Fact A: It is physically impossible to control a blush once it has started, been proven repeatedly by scientists

Fact B: The ONLY emotion that can cause a blush is embarrassment. This emotion can be triggered by a wide variety of stimuli, ranging from the more personal, like being close to or in contact with someone you like/love, or something simple, like being called on in math class for a calculus problem that is solved midway and the teacher asks you to finish it and you simply don't know where to start 'cause you weren't paying attention (happened to several of my friends).

Fact C: Some people do not have the gene that encodes for auto-blushing (like me!).

My answer is therefore, No, blushing can't be taken as a hint due to its wide variety of causes.

Well...yes and no. A blush doesn't automatically deserve an: OMG THAT'S SOOO CUTE <3!!!11 because like the math example, it could be embarrasment along with frustration. It all depends on the situation. If you have someone blushing around a certain person quite often, it's usually a sign of some sort of affection.

Like what Xcaliber said, many things cause blushing, so you can't have any concrete proof.

Although, I would like to say that in Pokemon, not many people go around blushing near each others. It's not hard for shippers (or just me?) to start taking things out of proportion. With such little and rare romantic hints in the show, you have to nit-pick and make your own conclusions.

I suppose I'll answer my own question as well.

If May and Drew had to choose another career aside from coordinating, what do you think it would be?

I've always thought for Drew to have a vet or doctor profession of some sort, which honestly, I have no reasoning for. XD

May is outgoing and based on her interests, I think that she would do something like fashion-designing or maybe an idol...Would an MC go along with coordinating? I could see her doing that. (:

I stopped watching random episodes of the anime somewhere in early Hoenn, and thought the Drew x May interactions were cute. (And Drew has a Flygon.. which is amazing.) A longggg time ago I spontaneously clicked on Treehouse Saga and it confirmed my liking for the ship. So now, every couple of months Ill go through and read some fanfics! ..... It has been a couple of months.

Thus (!) my question, what are you favorite fics (here or on another site) and do you have any suggestions/recommendations for my spree?

Hmm, this is a good question.
It depends on the situation and why the person is blushing for it to count to me as a hint.
Like, the person could be blushing because they're embarrassed.
So, it all depends on the situation to me.

I totally could picture May becoming PokeStylist. She has excellent taste in fashion and she's make a good one too.
For Drew, I think I could picture him becoming a Breeder, in case coordinating doesn't work out. I've always seen him that way since he was first introduced to the show.

We had a similar question just a page or two back, Shining Mew. I think that if you liked Treehouse Saga (which is wonderful!) then you would probably like the other fics Encyclopika has written. If you haven't read them or know the titles, those are Contest Tie (still on-going, but nearing the end) and Demons of Metropolis. She also has some oneshots on the shipping fics board. I really like her writing. (:

And, even though it's been awhile since I've read it, I really liked 'Love Beats Everything' which is on Fanfiction.net, although I forget the author's name.

For Drew, I think he can become a really good breeder since ive always seen him that way.

Well..it depends on the situation.
If it's dealing with one's attraction towards another, then yes; it could be taken as a hint.
Like for example, if a girl asks a boy "Do you think this dress looks pretty on me?"
and the boy blushes and is left speechless (because he really does think she is pretty in the dress), then yes.
That could be taken as a hint.
Blushing can only be taken as a hint if it's dealing with love, crushes, and/or one's attraction towards another.

I've been lurking the thread for quite a while...I stopped posting here ages ago because my excitement over this ship came to standstill when the ship itself *becameohsocanon* left the series. ^^;

But I intend on coming back...

In that note, I shall answer my first topic in 2 years or so. D:

In the old days we did...in fact, for Pokemon, it was the smoking gun for a ship, and gosh did this one have a lot. For a kid's show that has not had any main characters kiss (in counting Latias/Ash kiss...who cares? it was a one off and the crossbreeders can have their YAYs w/e) blushing is the only way we can know if the writers intend on making a pairing.

My answer is therefore, No, blushing can't be taken as a hint due to its wide variety of causes.

As stated, in a show like Pokemon, it has to be. Fact B makes a great point that blushing can be caused by a number of things, however, in the context of Contestshipping...may we go over the times May and Drew have blushed in front of each other? The most prominent slew of blushing was in the Brianna episode. At the beginning of the episode, Drew is accused of always giving May roses, and so it was a no brainer for them to suspect he sent the one she actually got from Brianna in a letter the previous episode. Take it from a child's perspective - an average 10 year old has enough experience to know that red roses are romantic. Drew's blush must mean he likes May and is embarrassed in that sense as everyone's figured out he gives red roses to her on many occasions, even though he's supposedly her rival and a jack*** to her. XD And the end of the episode completely follows your first point in fact B. There was no reason for May to be blushing like that for embarrassment...it had to be shippy goodness.

Now I understand the reason for Drew's blushing (or at least your inference sounds right to me). I couldn't understand why people were blushing so much for that episode. Aside from the wonderful 'Do-you-like-Drew' blush from May. ;P

Well it all depends of course. Most of the time an obvious blush out of liking someone is shown in all animes. I think it's their favorite thing to do ..make those extreme red lines across the character's faces, no matter if it looks just cute or just really crazy ahahah.

May has had a few of the crazy blushes while being accused of liking Drew in ways other than being her rival. And yes ..
Brianna accused May of liking Drew, and this is how May reacted


We had a lot of blushing in this episode ...EVEN FROM DREW! that made me like squeeeeee!
But again, May blushes just at the fact that Drew tells her how many ribbons she has left to get.
And she reacts by blushing and turning away ...and then trying to take the talk and eyes off her ..and watches Drew has he walks off, still blushing away with fainted Brianna in her arms. AWHWEEE!


So yes, the blushing hints we got from these two ..I totally take as hints ..since their ship is so obvious on other terms as well. The ship wasn't just blushing.

But blushing. You blush when you get embarrassed. The heat rises to your face. So liking someone is a big reason why you would blush ..especially after getting accused of liking them, and being put on the spot.

I think the fact that May usually would only blush over cute things or like if her stomach growled or something ..and then only with things that involved Drew ..just gives it away.

Yeah, I know...it's ridiculous how long it's been since the CS vs AS debate died, and when May left the crew to join Drew in Johto. :3 Certainly canon all the way - it was official then and remains so. ^^ It's the nostalgia that keeps me with the ship. XD I made too many friends because of it. :3

DEFINITELY. Look at any anime. Any anime at all. When a girl blushes, it's because of someone she likes. I guarantee you.

Plus normal people do often blush when someone they like talks to them or teases them or they are asked about that person [as Kit Kat said :3] that's an obvious sign there. I don't think that contestshippping would be the same without May's blushing!

I think, it's normal and in any anime,(well as we know, MOST) girls blush whenever the boy they like is near or with them. . .

It really depends on the situation. With these two, most of the time, no. Most of the time is just seems like one of them, mostly him, is ticking the other off. The action that causes them to blush could be taken as a juvenile form of expressing their feelings, but that is getting off topic. But there are instances where it is undeniable that the blushing is not from anger and rather from embarrassment. I find that people tend to blush a lot when they are around their "crush" for some of the most ridiculous reasons.
