Witch Bane

1475. In Europe, the Renaissance movement was in full swing, and even as great leaps in artistic, literary, scientific and political realms were made, the use of the old ways began to stagnate, even to the point that they were actively persecuted. This is to be expected during any advance in society, but when these advances spurn some of the most powerful people in the world, it does not come without a price.

For during those bright and optimistic years, the users of magic, whether good or evil, were hunted. Witches burned at the stake, sorcerers were slain. All across Europe, the use of magic was being snuffed out, which was alarming because there was so very little to begin with. As such, all users of the art, in any form, were forced to unite for the cause of preserving their own way of life. Certain rulers that would be considered otherwise benevolent (Edward IV, Louis XI, and Frederick III) all met in secret to draw up a set of laws that would allow their law enforcement to actively hunt magic users. This hunt, of course, had viable reasons for it's execution, as magic users often muscled their way into political power, and manipulated officials for their own greedy ends.

In the following months of March and April, covert wars erupted all over Europe and certain Eastern nations between the governments and the persecuted mages. There was one problem, however. The more powerful magic users proved almost impossible to defeat amongst the common authorities. Thus it was Lorenzo de' Medici's revolutionary idea to recruit special help from outside the guard. Often referring assassins, mercenaries and anti-mages to the captain of Florence's polizia. Other leaders and officials took a leaf out of Italy's book and began to recruit their own specialists. As the magic population began to wain, the officials began to recruit more and more freelancers, so that soon professional killers began to swarm all over the countryside. Obviously, some of these mercenaries had more unscrupulous methods, and crime rates began to rise. Once again, it was Italy that brought about change.

Upon seeing the rise in crime, Frederick III began to pass certain laws and contracts under which outside help was recruited. These laws bound the hired hands to certain laws, either if they were just or not. Such laws kept the crime rates under control while allowing the men to do their jobs. It was now just a matter of time before the disruptive magic users were snuffed out entirely. It was at this time, that magic users started to escape to the east. Though magic was not exactly endorsed in nations such as China, it was not looked upon as evil, and many mages saw these countries as havens. The rulers of Europe were not about to let their problems sit and multiply outside of their jurisdictions, so now the Witch Hunt became a race against time as more and more magic users trickled out of Europe.

Your Role: In this RP, you can play either a mage or a mercenary. These roles will be expanded upon later, but for now it's important to identify that while players can fight in this RP, no one gets bumped off unless I okay it.

1.No Godmoding: This is the Renaissance we're talking about.
2.Keep a period mindset: Not everyone in the Renaissance knew medicine, let alone how to read. Also, there's no way you could travel from Spain to Germany in just a day.

Name: Good names please. No one from this time was named Cody. No fru fru token anime names either.

Nationality: More important than you'd think. Least of all, it dictates your language. More detail on nationality down the page.

Appearance: You can give me an image if you like, but still provide me with at least two paragraphs. (This is easy if you break it down into body then clothes)

Schools: Unless stated otherwise, each mage gets two schools they can cast from, unless stated otherwise. For mercenaries, put two weapon types they are proficient with here.
Spells: Mages pull these spells from their schools, you get three for each school, unless otherwise stated. This does not mean you have to split available spell slots evenly.
Weapons/Equipment: Carry however much you want, but keep in mind that wearing or carrying too much can make you slower, or even make you sink like a stone. Also, only non-mage classes can carry weapons and wear armor unless otherwise stated. (Unless the mage is carrying a staff or wand. List it here.)
History: This doesn't have to be too elaborate, but make sure I know your motivations and past.

Nationalities- You may pick any country for your character to originate from, keeping in mind the impact that will have on their status in the game. For example, it is unlikely a character from Morocco will speak fluent german. Likewise, an English character is liable to have more money than others. If your character has an outstandingly bizarre nationality (i.e. Aztec or Japanese), you'd better make a good case for it in your History.

Classes- Classes in this game are broken down into two main categories: Mercenaries and Mages

Mercenaries

Mercenaries hunt mages for money, prestige, or favors.

Assassin- These characters are extremely agile and stealthy, making them perfect for, well, assassinations. They are skilled in many different forms of weaponry, some of them rather exotic, all designed to deliver speedy, efficient kills. Assassins are skilled in climbing and tumbling, giving them a deadly edge in urban environments. Despite this, Assassins can be quickly outnumbered, and rarely wear armor as this impedes their movement, so caution is always necessary.

Anti-Mage- Anti-Mages are magic users who have been granted a special dispensation to use magic for the sole purpose of hunting other magic users. While they usually defend or attack with their spells, they usually have training in basic weaponry such as crossbows or swords. Anti-Mages can choose one school of magic to use from the following list: Elemental, Cursing, Spiritual, Warding, and Slaying. Despite being able to access magic legally, most Anti-Mages are spurned in society, and may have difficulty making allies.

Paladin- Paladins are holy warriors imbued with the ability to smite evil. While this doesn't really apply to most mages, the upshot of this is that they are protected from almost every kind of offensive spell casting (specifically Elemental, Slaying, Cursing, and Charming spells). Paladins usually ride horses as both a status symbol and as as a form of convenience. As such, most of their combat prowess comes from horse-back attacks. If they are dismounted, they become rather vulnerable to group attacks, as their physical defensive ability is more reliant on hit and run tactics.

Ranger- Rangers are stoic and brave woodsmen more dedicated to defending their home and land more than anything else. They see mages as unnatural, so hunt them for defense, sport, and more. The Ranger's ability to track a target proves invaluable in the wilderness where the Assassin might have trouble. This class can also utilize survival techniques to pursue a quarry over an extended period of time, wearing the target down. Rangers are indeed dead eyes with bows or crossbows, but cannot quite hold their own in close combat.

Monk- Monks are exotic and wild fighters from equally exotic and wild locales. Hailing from such places as Egypt or China, these fighters are lightning quick scrappers that rely on their fists and light weaponry to subdue their opponent. Though they may have to rely on certain powerful grapples to damage armored opponents, they are pretty much the masters of offensive, close quarters fighting. This is at a sacrifice to defensive capabilities, since even a master of martial arts may have trouble deflecting a great axe, but especially a fireball.

Gladiator- Gladiators are the no holds barred muscle of the mercenary classes. These are the people that can chew off a lion's head and then go swimming in lava for a cool down. While their strength overcomes even the most enchanted of Warlocks, they tend to be slow and calculating. Gladiators are not by nature stupid, and have very sharp minds when it comes to combat. But since they have focused on very little else in their lives, they may be at a disadvantage when confronting aggressive casters.

Mages are out fending for their lives, hiding, or fleeing

Sorcerer- Sorcerers are the ones who bring storms, the ones who make the earth shake, and who cast down the mighty with a word. They are the eldritch masters of the magic arts, spending decades (and maybe centuries) perfecting and growing their infinite power. They quite possibly have summoned or crafted servants who aid them in the mundane so that they can focus all of their considerable mind power to the arcane. How is it possible to overcome such maelstroms of power? Many Sorcerers consider it taxing to move a chair across a room. (So they probably use magic). Sorcerers have access to all schools of magic, but must pick two as usual.

Wizard- Where the Sorcerer spends his entire life dedicating his time to expanding his own power as an introvert, the Wizard travels the world learning, as the eternal extrovert. Wizards are the covert benefactors, the mysterious sages and the wise pilgrims who spread good will wherever they go. As such, Wizards more commonly use their magic talents for good, but have no qualms about defending themselves violently. Wizards commonly carry staffs, with which they defend themselves. These staffs can cast one spell from any school, in addition from the wizard being able to choose two from Elemental, Spiritual, Illusion, Enchantment, Alchemy, Empathy, Charming, or Warding.

Warlock- The Warlock is the self-taught wild card of the mages. These magic users trudge across the wilderness, taking names, but no prisoners. They are out for themselves, to prove their worth in the world. Since they never stop traveling and never really commit to their studies, Warlocks are limited to only four spells. However, due to their chaotic nature, these four spells can be from any school at all. (You may leave the schools section of your signup blank if you choose to play a Warlock) Also, since Warlocks have self preservation at the forefront of their mind, they are the only mage class trained to wear armor.

Shaman- The Shaman is the voodoo king, the tribal witch doctor, or even the Chinese priestess. These magic users focus on the use of magic to empower themselves and others with astounding abilities. They use this magic to heal and protect, often traveling with companions to fight on their behalf, or summoning them. The Shaman stands back and supports the fighter while they turn their bodyguard(s) into the perfect fighting machines. Shamans have a rather limited selection of schools, but in recompense, they can choose nine spells to use. Shamans can choose from the Spiritual, Summoning, Empathy, Warding, and Enchantment schools.

Witch- Some mages cast fireballs with rage, other call upon the spirits of dragons to smite their foes. Not the Witch. No, the magic of the witch is a subtler thing. Theirs is the way of deceit, trickery and manipulation. A witch may not be able to summon a thunderstorm, but they can tell you when the next one will be, and which trees will be struck. Likewise, they can turn you into a newt if you double cross them. The biggest edge a Witch has however, is their wand. Though they do not need it to cast spells, they can use it to break through any kind of magic defense their target has. Witches have access to the schools of Illusion, Enchantment, Cursing, Necromancy, Divination, Empathy, Charming, and Alchemy.

Necromancer- The sadistic, the depraved and mad. Not necessarily evil, but just plain...off. That is the stigma that walks with a Necromancer. These blackened souls sit in their squalid sepulchers dabbling in the darker ways of the world. Everything they do has to do with manipulating death, twisting it to serve them. Necromancers must take Necromancy as at least one of their schools, as their dedication to the art cannot be swayed. To make up for this, only Necromancers know the secret of Lichdom. Using this dark art, they can live indefinitely, inhabiting a never decaying body and live forever. Even if the body their soul inhabits is destroyed, they can simply possess another corpse and continue on in that body. Unless the phylactery, the object that holds the sould of the Lich, is destroyed, there is no stopping them. Necromancers can harness the powers of Elemental, Summoning, Spiritual, Cursing, Necromancy, Slaying, Empathy, and Alchemy.
 

Schools

Here you will find the nature of the each school of magic, as well as discover some example spells from each, though you can absolutely make up your own. Just remember that each form of magic has it's own price, which grows in relation to the spell's power.

Elemental- Elemental magic summons the powers of mother nature. Though commonly inferred to manipulate the powers of earth, fire, wind, and water, this is not just so. Elemental magic can make the sun shine, or the earth dry up. It can bring storms and floods, and just as easily evaporate them away. It can make trees grow, and flowers wither. The largest concern with elemental magic is the massive collateral damage it often causes, so it's not well suited for secrecy. Also, material affected by elemental magic loses it's arcane power, and can't be used again until it settles back into a natural state. Example spells are Grow Thicket, Freeze, Rain Dance, Quake, Rise Tide, Desecrate Plant, and the good old Fireball.

Summoning- Some mages need some extra help when confronted by a division of city guards. Considering that no one really wants to help them, why not whip up an ogre to smack the guards off their horses? Summoning can do this easily, but it's important to remember that the longer the mage keeps their “servant” out of the summoning circle, the less control the mage has over the creature. If a creature does break free of control, there is absolutely nothing the mage can do about it aside from slaying the creature themselves. This is because the ability to dismiss the creature only works when that creature is inside its summoning circle. There are no individual spells in summoning, but each spell slot is taken up by an individual summon.

Spiritual- Spiritual magic, or “chi” involves projecting one's soul to have effects on the physical world. As such, this school can use both mild attack and defensive spells. The biggest boon of this school is the ability to interact and traverse the spirit world. This allows a mage to become incorporeal or even fly, if they focus enough. But, indeed focus is the key to this school, and even a sudden noise can break a mage's concentration enough to disrupt a spell, causing devastating side effects, such as being trapped in the spirit world. This is why users of this school either conduct massive rituals to make sure there is no interference, or conduct the magic in serene settings. The powers of this school include Spirit Step, Spirit Sight, Ghost Whisper, Telepathy, Ki blast, Lengthen Spell, or Luck.

Illusion- Illusion magic is a basic yet essential art for most mages, as it allows them to blend in with crowds as they are hunted, or even go completely invisible. The ability to bend light grants many potent powers, and can be used offensively, to blind or distract enemies. While Illusion magic is a relatively “safe” school, mages using illusion spells must be careful not to fall prey to their own illusions, as they can easily be blinded by their own burst of light. Illusion spells are usually very quick to cast, and are rather popular among starting mages. Spells might be Blind, Shadow, Invisibility, ReColor, or Projection.

Enchantment- Enchantment is a potent school of magic that bends the physical traits of objects to the will of the caster. While this school has no real no negative effects to the target, this in no means it is a school for pacifists. A mage might be able to make himself two stories tall, or give himself the ability to climb walls like a spider. While enchantments can make a target very strong, when an enchantment wears off, it will leave the benefactor extremely fatigued. Some spells may cause even the strongest Gladiators to pass out upon their completion. Enchantment can be used to Grow, Harden, Strengthen, Sharpen, Shrink, or Mutate. (Be careful with that last one)

Cursing- The polar opposite of of Enchantment, the school of Cursing lets the user place festering afflictions and negative effects on the target. Curses do not wear off, so victims must seek out a magical or holy cure, or, the mage can name the terms of the curse's release. Though most curses are easy to pull off, the use of this dark art will leave the user increasingly deformed as use continues, so they should be used sparingly, but with great potency. Common curses are Fatigue, Disease, Shrink, Famine, Baleful Polymorph and Stupefy.

Necromancy- The dangerous and touchy art of Necromancy should only be practiced by they who know all of it's effects and consequences. Knowing this, many evil mages still flock to the art for it's ability to stave off death, as well as give them hordes of undead servants. It important to note, however, that necromancy, in rare instances is also used for good. Certain spells can heal mild wounds, or even bring back the dead (though sometimes not completely intact). The prices of Necromancy is subtle yet deep, as practitioners are slowly wracked by insanity and fits of madness as the impact of their spells on the mind surpasses belief. Spells include Make Shade, Raise Dead, Halt Necrosis, Locate Body, Bone Puppet, Drain Life, and False Resurrection.

Slaying- There's not too much to the school of Slaying. It is by far the most offensive and aggressive of the magic schools. If you need to blast a hole in a wall, knock down a catapult, or fumigate your cottage, this school will do it. The price of such raw, destructive power is that it slowly kills you too. Powerful spells can reduce you to a bleeding, critical state if used too recklessly. That said, there's still nothing like tossing a laser through the local despot. Examples of Slaying include Kill Touch, Power Beam, Explosion, Death Smog, Power fist, or Deconstruct.

Divination- Need to know something? Divination can help with that. This school grants the user the ability to hear the thoughts of others, see things happening miles away, or even see the future. Crystal balls are often associated with spells of divination, as certain spells require reflective surfaces to work, but not always. Divination is, however, hard to control, and users will tend to be over run with thousands of images and sensations if they open their mind too much. This will, at the very least, cause a rather potent migraine. Still, the usefulness of this art is not to be underestimated with spells like Tell Future, Know Thoughts, Locate Person, Read Heart, Know Fact, Clairvoyance, and other even more powerful skills.

Empathy- People get hurt. This is a fact, and it's a fact that they sometimes need to get better, fast. This is Empathy's role in magic, in soothing pain, curing wounds or even relieving stress. Some practitioners are so skilled with empathy that they, like necromancers, can also bring souls back from the dead. Empathy is a skill that must be used in moderation, as the transferring too much power from one body to another can bring the user very close to death. Empathy is powerful and rare, with certain spells including Heal, Soothe Pain, Remove Curse, Resurrect, Transfer Life, Death Ward, and Cure Disease.

Charming- Charming is what allows mages to have influence in the world despite their rejected status. Controlling minds, intensifying emotions, or dulling senses are all powers of Charming people. Used by manipulators and innocents alike, Charm is another useful school as it allows individuals to basically have their way. The biggest problem with Charming is that certain people have stronger wills than others, and can resist the mind altering effects of Charming. If they do manage to resist the spell, the spell it takes hold of the caster, and that mage is under the full effects of that spell until it wears off. Spells that execute greater control over a person are easier to resist as they are more noticeable. Still, Charming is very powerful. Spells include Mind Control, Truth, Inebriate, Fool Senses, Amnesia, Enamor, and many many more.

Warding- Incoming lightning bolt? No problem. The shielding properties of the school of Warding can protect against almost every form of attack, making it one of the more often used schools. The magical ability to project force can come in handy for both people on the run and on the attack. Warding has a fatigue side effect similar to Enchantment, but instead of occurring after the spell, this fatigue comes on gradually as the mage throws up a defense. Creating a particularly strong or large field of protection can quickly drop the caster. Warding includes Shield, Reflect Spell, Net, Paralyze, Substitute, and more.

Alchemy- Chemistry has long been understood at this point, and that's about the only thing that comes close to Alchemy. If you need potions, brews or elixirs, an Alchemist can make one for you custom tailored. If you need lead turned into gold, or instant fire, an Alchemist can do that too. Alchemy is also a “safer” school, due to the fact that failing a reaction can result in a large explosion at the worse end of things (but it can always get worse). Like summoning, each reaction you are capable of performing takes up one spell slot. Alchemical reactions can include Transmogrify, Insta-Death Poison, Love Potion, Forge Magical Weapon, Warp Shape, and just about anything else you can think of. Just be sure to uphold the golden rule: Anything you created must be constructed of, or replaced by anything of equal value.

Creating Spells: I actively encourage players to come up with their own spells, as long as they keep the following guidelines in mind.

1.Components!: Spells are rarely cast with just a gesture. Remember that spells may require material components, incantations, or for the really big ones, rituals.
2.Cost!: Spells take a toll on the caster, no matter what school they are. Remember that.
3.Time!: You think summoning a hurricane takes a couple seconds? Get out! Setting up the magical circle alone could take a week...
4.Be fair now!: Unless you want to spend another couple seconds to augment your spell, that fireball there could easily miss.
 

Final Words: Now, it may seem like the mages have quite the upper hand in this RP. While they do have access to magic, one must understand that they are a.) quite helpless without it, and b.) they are hated and feared by pretty much everyone in society. Mercenaries have a massive edge when it comes to public relations, not to mention raw strength and armor. Trust me, everything is balanced. Besides, I am allowing you guys to customize your characters pretty much any way you want, so go crazy.

Name: Emanuel Bannestra II

Class: Assassin
Appearance: Emmanuel's Mediterranean heritage shows very strongly from the tone of the skin to the glint in his eye. He is a smaller man, standing at about 4'5”, but that makes the toned muscles of his forearms seem all the more prevalent. He has a roundish, proud face with a firm jaw and a stout brow. A light beard garnishes his smooth skin, and just a tiny dash of wrinkle is beginning to manifest around his eyes and dimples. Emmanuel keeps his shining black hair long, its loose curls draping haphazardly over his collar. His dark eyes are often drawn into a squint, but they are in fact a vibrant green. His left ear is pierced with a small silver ring.

Emmanuel's favorite outfit is a light, bleached cotton shirt with ruffled cuffs and collar. Over this, he wears a black leather vest with iron thorns laid into the toughened leather. He wears a rust colored cravat around his neck along with a beaded egyptian necklace and a solid gold locket with his daughter Suzanna sketched on a small scrap of parchment inside. He wears vambrace black leather gloves on his hands. His belt is of soft woven leather, with a simple brass buckle containing a hidden compartment, worn at his left hip. On his legs, his pants are padded, light grey trousers with knee high leather grieves on his feet, decorated with similar patterning as the vest. He wears his falchion sword proudly on his right hip, with his dagger strapped to the hilt of the sword. A small crossbow hangs on his back, with a rack of bolts wedged into his belt.

Personality: Emmanuel is very much an elitist, as his long successful career as an assassin has given him leeway to be cocky. This display of confidence is somewhat of a facade, since Emmanuel is very cautious and calculating in reality. He is somewhat anal retentive, never resting until the smallest of annoyances or problems have been resolved. Socially, he has a flamboyant flair to everything he does, spinning and bowing out of doors even as he counts the amount of steps it would take to get to the building next door. Emmanuel is very secure with himself, largely because he knows that he is so cautious, but also because he tends to eliminate everyone who would want to kill him. After all, tying up loose ends is his credo.

Schools: Short Sword and Crossbow

Weapons/Equipment: Emmanuel carries a persian Falchion Sword, a large dagger, and a one handed crossbow, with six bolts. His leather vest and grieves are internally reinforced with a thin layer of iron, which effectively saves him from stabbing attacks, but won't hold up against heavier assault. The secret compartment in his belt contains a vial of cobra venom.

History: As a younger boy, Emmanuel's sea side village was pillaged and attacked by an overconfident band of pirates bent on looting the town's well known market district. At the time Emmanuel was a street urchin, surviving off killing and eating any small animal he could find, aside from cats, as he had a fondness for them. It is from the cats that he learned to sneak and hunt, and it was thus how he avoided being slain by the rampaging pirates. As Emmanuel sat atop a small villa, he saw cavalry of the spanish government coming to quell the attack, and Emmanuel saw his chance to escape both is life as a poor boy and the town itself. Seeking out the first mate of the pirate crew, Emmanuel reported what he'd seen, allowing the pirates to escape with a significant amount of goods. Emmanuel was adopted as the first mate's son in “law”, and Emmanuel grew up reveling and rioting with his pirate family.

However, as security in the mediterranean began to increase, the pirate crew was eventually defeated in naval combat, and Emmanuel was taken prisoner along with some twenty other survivors. Since Emmanuel was a child, the Governor of the port city spared his life, but committed him as an indentured servant in his mansion. As Emmanuel was force to watch his family killed, one snapped neck at a time, he swore revenge by death. Emmanuel's feral instincts began to take over one night, as he awoke from sleeping in the dungeon of the mansion. Slipping his wrists out of the large manacles, Emmanuel first killed the guard of the dungeon by stuffing straw down his throat. Seizing the guard's club, Emmanuel began to sneak up the levels of the mansion to the Governers room, and brutally cleaved the man's head in two and drove the sharp edge of the club into the mistress's chest. Feeling all the satisfaction that is wrong with a death, Emmanuel escaped from the mansion, and began his life as a killer for hire.

Over the years, as he grew to the edge he is now, Emmanuel has decided to start to settle down and make a family, while he still has time. With the last of his enemies underground, he moved to Barcelona and wed his beautiful wife. Soon thereafter, she had a baby girl and Emmanuel became a consultant to the city's financial office. However, as the order to kill mages went out over Europe, Emmanuel was eventually contacted by King John II himself, who knew of Emmanuel's actions as an assassin very well. When Emmanuel refused to help the country, King John threatened to imprison both him, his wife, and daughter if he did not comply. Having no choice but to obey, Emmanuel nodded sullenly and began to hunt down any mage he could find. He is considering putting the king on his personal hit list...

Appearance:"DF has black eyes, and skin of an Asian. He also has Black hair, except for some parts, which are yellow. Bob has short hair, which are all spread down. His body is just plain, not like all mascular, fat, or skinny. Still, this helps DF, for it helps him of being fast, yet still have alot of stamina. He always has a smile on his face, unless he is passing the blame, which he does alot. He looks innocent, until you are a boy who annoys him. Then, he becomes the MASTER PRANKSTER.

Bob always wears a black, white, and red vest. He wears glasses, Bob always has torn Blue jeans and a black belt, Bob never takes off his red Bandana, unless taking a shower, going swimming or taking a bath. He always wears wooden sandals, but never a normal shoe. He has a shirt with a Ice Crystal Logo, on top of a sentence. The sentence says "I will freeze your heart with my personality", which is exactly the opposite of his personality.

Personality: Bob is sort of Over Hyperactive, and has many things that he likes. Bob loves to freak people out, and annoy them. He is very childish and loves candies, and is not afraid of most things. He hates high places, and loves scary-looking places. Bob might be annoying and sort of abnoctious, but he loves justice, and he hates anything evil. His happyness never seems to stop. DF is the kind that you would get in a fight easily. Still, when a girl older than him is near, he acts all innocent. Whenever he acts innocent, girls think that he is just a cute boy, who is being bullied.

Schools: Summoning, Empathy
Spells:

Summon Giant Hawk: summons a big hawk. (about the size of Takamaru.)
1.Components!:Takamaru needs to cut himself a bit, and offer a bit of his blood. Summoning Circle
2.Cost!: Takamaru's blood, which is used to make the summoning circle.
3.Time!: Ten seconds. An animal spirit is not really a hard thing to summon
4.Be fair now!: The hawk can talk, but jokes around too much.

Solid: Turns anything that the spell was used on solid for a few seconds.

2.Cost!: Makes Takamaru tired.
3.Time!: A day of storing energy, but after that, Takamaru can use it five times before being able to use it again.
4.Be fair now!: Takamaru can use it one one thing at a time. ^^'

Heal:Heals a partner

Combination:Combines something with his clothes, causing the summoning to become a armour/weapon.

Summon Ogre swordsman: Summons an Ogre who is talented in sword.

4.Be fair now!: The Ogre hates Takamaru, but listens to him sometimes.

Resserection:uses seven candles, in order to resserect something or someone.

2.Cost!: Takamaru cannot leave the candles until the person is fully resserected.
3.Time!: five days
4.Be fair now!: If anyone touches the candles while the spell is being cast, the reserectee will never be able to be revived again.

History: Takamaru was a cold, selfish boy who was born in Korea with his rich parents, sister, brother, and his grandparents. He moved to Britain when Takamaru's parents needed to move there, because of a job reason. He never thought about anyone other than himself, until... IT happened.

Takamaru's parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunt, uncle, and even his girlfriend was killed mysteriously. To make matters worse, The last thing he ever said to his family was "I hate you!". His family always spoiled him, so Takamaru was sadder even more. He decided to be the biggest do-gooder in the world. He traveled the world, trying to help those in need. He found out from a homeless man he helped that if he studies Shamanery, Takamaru could revive his girlfriend. Takamaru quickly started studying it, and joined the school of Empathy.

Takamaru met a man in the school, who knew how to revive people. He taught Takamaru how to do it, even though it took a long time. Once Takamaru learned how to revive his girlfriend, he used it. Sadly, The man who taught Takamaru how to use this technique came in, and accedentally knocked over one of the candles. Takamaru, in sadness and rage, Takamaru joined the school of Summoning as well, in order to get strong enough to kill that man. The reason why Takamaru did not kill the man right away is because the man fled, quitting the school as well. That was when the Witch hunt started.

Alright, the reservees are reserved, for whatever it's worth, since there's no real upwards limit of characters in this RP, but it's nice to know some people take interest!

Darkness, your character looks pretty good (I like Combination), but I don't think you know what time period we're in. This is the Renaissance, 1475 to be exact, so America doesn't really exist yet. Revise that and it should be good, m'kay? Oh, and Dusk Sweep, this would be during the Sengoku period, unless your character is a time traveler.

Here's my second character.

Name: Annabelle Landon “The Bone Lady”
Age: 23

Class: Necromancer

Appearance: If there's a precedent that all arch evil necromancers are the very literal personifications of ugliness and horror, then they're only half right. At first glance, Annabelle appears to be a very elite, well set English bachelorette. On her face she wears a reinforced porcelain mask set with gold leaf and real gilded vines attached to the rims of the mask. She wears a fuchsia pill hat with a mane of dark red feathers cascading from the brim. Her silvery blonde hair falls to about her chest, and ends in long, looping curves. Her gown is made of silver silk for the dress, with red ties for the lifting hems. A skintight undershirt covers her entire neck, with red lace garnishes at the hems. The bodice is black with more red lace edging. She wears white cotton gloves with several silver rings.

While, with the dress on, she has a rather stunning figure. This is of course rather overcome in terms of attractiveness when one finds that her skin is grey and withered. Since she has entered into Lichdom, Annabelle's body has slowly decayed. Despite her attempts to quell the rate of decay, it is, none the less, emaciated. She has pronounced wrinkles all over her body. Her lips are thin, and her nose has grown shallow. Her eyes are milky and blank, but upon close observation, one can see that they were once blue. This is obviously why she keeps all of her skin covered up. People who are very close to her have seen her chest wound, which compelled her to become a lich.

Personality: Annabelle is not entirely the quintessential warm snake. She is, in reality, a loving and affectionate person. She has a large amount of compassion with which she dotes on even the smallest animals. Many people are very loyal to her, and she has many underground connections because of this.

Despite this warm personality, like most other Necromancers, Annabelle craves more power. Though this power is primarily used for good, Annabelle has her own ends to meet. She is a very skilled manipulator, remarkable considering she has no Charm spells. She has very little shame, and does not have any qualms about coercing people into uncomfortable situations to meet her own ends. While she sees herself as selfless, her depravity clouds her actions to a certain extent.

Schools: Necromancy and Empathy

Spells:

Drain Life: This spell will siphon energy from the target to Annabelle's body. The target can be killed if Annabelle maintains the spell long enough. This spell requires physical contact with the target, so Annabelle must remove her gloves to operate the spell. Annabelle exposes herself to the power of the dark realm when using this spell, and can become mad if it's used too much. The incantation for this spell takes about a minute.

Animate Bones: With this spell, Annabelle is able create an undead servant of pure bone. When Annabelle animates the skeleton, only the skeleton rises, often tearing out of the corpse it recently occupied. Annabelle can program the skeleton with basic commands such as fight, guard, or patrol, but not much more. The more servants Annabelle animates at the same time, or the longer she keeps them active, the more insane she becomes. Animating Skeletons is instantaneous when she touches the corpse, but will wear off after a few minutes unless she purposely keeps them up longer.

Warp Bone: Warp Bone is another touch spell, that works specifically with skeleton specialists. This can shape any kind of bone to any shape Annabelle desires, allowing her to create skeleton monstrosities. Annabelle must visualize the shape in her mind while warping the bone, so concentrating on this spell can take up to ten minutes if it is a particularly complicated shape. Once the bone is warped, it stays that way. This spell does not work on living bodies.

Cure Disease: This is a simple spell that will cure a body any kind of pathogenic disease, caused by a virus or bacteria. It will not cure damage already done by the affliction, but the body will immediately be rid of the disease. Curing a disease can take up to an hour, at the cost of the amount of energy it would normally take a body to cure the disease.

Regenerate: This ornate spell requires Annabelle to trace a circle of healing on the specific injury in question with the tip of a scalpel. This intricate circle can take almost half a day to inscribe. After a short five minute ritual, the wound and the markings will regenerate almost instantly. The beautiful aspect of this spell is that it will cure any size wound at the same energy cost, because of the length of time it takes to create the crest.

Give Life: This spell functions almost exactly the same as Drain Life, aside from the fact that this spell imbues the the target with Annabelle's personal life force as opposed to draining it. This can save the lives of people in critical states, giving her more time to treat them with one of her other medical spells. She often uses Drain and Give life in concert.

Weapons/Equipment: Annabelle's phylactery is her porcelain face mask, which really has a solid steel framing, preventing it from shattering. Her medical bag is made of bone beads and white leather. She also carries around a small bat skeleton, with thin paper wings attached so it can fly. The bag also has medical tools, candles and flint in it, among other basic supplies.

History:

Annabelle Landon grew up in the rural country of England, living in the secluded yet bright and cheery forest. Her father, Leomund Landon was a wealthy lumber merchant who liked to associate with the woodsmen he had under his employ. Annabelle's mother was the actual owner of the forest land, and she'd been there since Annabelle's father had first discovered the valuable Yew trees in that forest. Initially, her mother had threatened to lay a curse upon the uppity merchant, but after Leomund promised her a daughter, the lady relented.

Annabelle's life of luxury was a constant source of guilt for her, as she often visited the lumber yards where the downtrodden and ill fated workers hacked away at trees. She would often create pretend remedies for these men if they fell ill, made of forest berries and the like. She grew up learning how to perform many different medical treatments. At the age of eight, her mother considered her ready to learn the black art of necromancy. She studied the art eagerly, accessing the power of death with ease. Taking what she knew from the death art however, she began to apply to the art of giving life. As such, she learned both necromancy and empathy magic. As she grew into her twenties, she was treating the wounds of an axeman, when the local constable stopped by the camp. He carried her mother in a carriage, accusing her of being a witch. Stunned, Annabelle tried to run, but was pierced through the chest by a crossbow bolt. As she started to die, her mother, in a final act of love and desperation, killed herself as the sacrifice for Annabelle's lichdom. Her mother's corpse took the shape of an elegant porcelain mask, into which Annabelle's soul was transferred. In a fit of rage, Annabelle killed the entire group of witch hunters, and fled to London. Becoming her father's correspondent, she became a wealthy merchant lady and doctor, even treating royalty with her uncanny powers.

However, once word of her magical abilities got out after the start of the witch hunt, Annabelle fled once again, this time to France. She's gradually making her way East, helping many people along the way. Her current plans are to try to create her own sovereign land where all mages can go for refuge.

Other: Annabelle's insanity often causes her to personify her skeletons as people, and has recently begun to create skeletons simply for the company.

Shinichi Misao I like your character and he has great potential, but there are a few things you need to touch up before you're good.

1. Exactly what element does Hypno-Surge manipulate? It seems like a definitive Charm spell.

2. Your history is just a bit meager. If you could expand it a bit, that'd be great.

3. This isn't a huge problem, but in general, it'd be good if you read over your signup posts before posting them. Some of your information is a tad disorganized.

OK here we go, hope you want to read a history, cos i got one for you...

Name: Tōriama “The Devil Fuki” Fukishima

Age: 23

Sex: Male

Nationality: Japanese

Class: Mercenary- Gladiator- (I prefer to be recognized as a Samurai)

Appearance:
Clothes/Armour- When Fuki go to battle he wear the traditional Ō-Yoroi armour (Samurai Armour), which is dark black, with golden Dragon Head decoratives for shoulder protection. When he is at home, he wears a light grey Kimono, which is tied around his back with a decorative golden bow.
He normally wears ninja sandles, whether he is at battle or not.

Physical Appearance- He is about 5.8 ft tall (which may I add is quite tall for 1475), and has a slight chubby tummy. He has long neck-length black hair, but he always has it tied in a kind of ponytail at the back. His eyes are milk chocolate brown, and his eyebrows are considerably furry. His lips are thin and red. His skin tone isn’t exactly ghost white, but he would probably have to stay in the sun 24hrs straight to get some colour in him. He has a faint scare above his right shoulder.

Accessories- His hair is tied back with fine golden string. And of course he always has his Katana by his side which is called- Oni (demon).
His Yari is slung in its sheath on his back.

Personality: Fuki absolutely loves children, and is very generous to them all, normally teaching young children how to wield their weapon. He is sometimes hated by women, as he is not very good at lying, and normally ends up calling women fatty or Buta (pig). He loves to talk about his triumphs in war, but normally exaggerates to the point to when you’d think he was God. Fuki is an absolute sucker for money; hence he became a Samurai for hire. He isn’t fond of those who call him a loner, often retorting in a stupid phrase, which leads to him getting in a fight, leading to him getting kicked out of the village. Since a young boy he was always fond of magical tricks his father could do such as, pulling coins from Fuki’s ear, or lighting his thumb on fire, and he wouldn’t get hurt. Fuki is always up for adventure, but may chose to do wrong if it has a big enough price tag on it.

Schools: The yari (spear), and Katana.

Weapons/Equipment: Among his array of weapons and equipment, he has a yari (worn on his back) a katana (by his side), wakizashi (small knife), and a retractable bō (Wooden staff) which he rarely uses.
Equipment- As said before he wears Ō-Yoroi, but however has modereated it to become lighter, by refining the iron made to use it, allowing easier travel for him. He never brings a kimono with him, but if he reaches a town he normally buys one, and then discards it or gives it away before he leaves.

History: Fuki had always wanted to be a great Samurai, like his father, but was always told that he wouldn’t surpass being a foot soldier. Of course when he became a ‘man’, he was given his katana which he called Oni, as it sometimes omitted a dark energy around the blade. He and his family had always been poor, even though his father was among the best fighter’s in his village. When he was 18 he had begun to use the yari with great technique. This led him to his first mission for the Fukishima Clan, by attempting to assassinate a rival clan’s leader. Even though Fuki preferred the heavier types of armour, he was given a light set of hard leather, and his yari. Fuki was surprised at how fast he could move with light armour, and soon enough the entire Fukishima Clan had cornered the rival clan leader, and his last 500 man. Fuki went with haste to the rival Bushido, and drew his blade to finish off his mission. However, he was seduced by the Bushido’s begging of him to let him live, and Fuki jokingly said- “Only for 1000 gold” and went for the kill, but when the rival leader agreed to the price, Fuki stopped and told him he had a deal if he chucked in that Dragon Head decorative, and of course the Rival said yes. Fuki was disappointed in himself, but yet at the same time he was happy, of the way hew as able to gain so much power in so little time. Fuki left with the rebel leader, to his own village and that is where he stayed for 3 months, until he had assassinated the rebel himself, to take even more riches, however he was dealt a blow while leaving the village on horseback, he got skimmed with an arrow on his right shoulder, hence from there he only wore his Ō-Yoroi armour, with the added Dragon head decorative. He went to many villages doing sneaky raids, which lead to his nickname the Devil Fuki. He however would always hold mercy on children, and their mothers, never harming them at all, and sometimes would give them gold to keep quiet. By his next birthday he had become a wanted Samurai, for theft, assassination and treason, however the offers for his services never stopped, and Fuki became a very rich man. Until (of course) he was getting chased by rogue nin wanting the bounty on his head (50,000 gold). He came upon many crates and hid in one, keeping watch through the the holes in the box. By nightfall he assumed the nin had gone so he went out to retreive his weapons (which he had hid in other crates as he couldn’t fit everything in), but to his surprise many of the crates had gotten loaded into a ship (which of course he hadn’t seen while he was getting chased), so when he boarded the ship with the hope of retreiving his special katana and yari, he was confused, and intrigued by the weird symbols he would see on the ship. After stumbling around for about 30 minutes, he encountered his first European, (which he didn’t know was a non-Japanese person) and when he tried to explain that his weapons got loaded upon ship, the confused European, grabbed his arm and led him to the Captain’s Quarters. Fuki tried protesting that he only wanted his weapons, but the Captain couldn’t understand him. However the Captain turned to one of his men and said- “so this is the fabled Samurai is it, good maybe we can use him in our fight against those wretched mages”. Fuki gave a strange look to all the men in the Captain’s cabin, but when he spotted his weapons standing up against the ship’s walls, he yelled in glee and went to get them only to be held back by a very large Portugese man. He struggled and struggled but to no prevail, so the man simply struck him on the head rendering him unconcious… The next day Fuki woke up in a bed, with European clothes on, and no idea what he had gotten himself into.

RP Sample:
Fuki drew back his katana in disbelief; he couldn’t believe he was getting paid to do this. He dashed through the crowd of enemy Samurai, ducking the attempts of his murder, and then finally his target, Hiro Asakura. Fuki glared at his target with money-bags in his eyes, and ran screaming at him his katana raised high in the air, Fuki only wanting one blow to finish his enemy off, but he put on the brakes when Asakura bellowed-
“Now, Rain of Death” and to that came the reply of approximately 100 arrows all aimed at Fuki. He put his katana back in its sheath and scurried away trying his best to out run the army of arrows following him. Fuki then got tripped by an enemy Samurai, and as he looked up to see his defeat, he was saved by the planned reply, of the exact same amount of arrows fired, except all the arrows were fired at the other arrows, rendering everything useless.
“Damn’t Hanzo, how bout’ next time you execute the plan before I trip over, so that way I don’t crap my pants thinking I’m bout’ to die, you moron” Fuki screamed at his temp-ally Samurai Hanzo, sitting atop a hill with his bowman cheering of their masterful hits.
“How bout’ next time we don’t pay you 3000 gold for a simple assassination plot” Hanzo jeered back.
“Whatever” Fuki murmured to himself, and with that he resumed his mission of killing Hiro Asakura.

*I know it’s not the best, but I’ve never done an action rpg before.




Other: His favourite colour is gold, and he hasn’t got the courage to return home to his home village.
