Happy New Year Serebii Forums! With 2008 over, time to see what we gamers thought was the best of the best. Go ahead and make your own list if you feel you should go further into stuff like graphics, storyline, music and what not, but as for me, I have my own list.

For my list, I'll go into different categories, which are as follows: Best Wii Game, Best XBox 360 Game, Best PS3 Game, Best Multi-Console Game, Best Handheld Game, Best Downloadable Game and Best Overall Game of the Year.

However, since I'm in kind of a hurry and I just really wanted to get this thing out of the way, I'll just list them and not give an explanation. Sorry guys.

Best Wii Game: Mario Kart Wii

Best XBox 360 Game: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Best PS3 Game: Little Big Planet

Best Multi-Console Game: Sonic Unleashed

Best Handheld Game: Chrono Trigger

Best Downloadable Game: Mega Man 9

Best Overall Game of the Year: Super Smash Bros Brawl

Best Wii Game: Boom Blox - Great mulitplayer game. Simple controls,

Best PS3 Game: Metal Gear Solid 4 - Best story, graphics, gameplay, etc.

Best Multi-Console Game: Rock Band 2 - Nothing can top the unmatched DLC, look, and amazingness that is RB and RB2

Best Downloadable Game (Per System):

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3) - Best Graphics for a Downloadable game, improved gameplay. Just great.

Best Overall Game of the Year: Metal Gear Solid 4 - Just has to be experienced. The cinematic feel, the way you can actually get attached to the characters. And the conclusion to one of video games most kickass characters.

Honorable Mention: Little Big Planet (PS3) - Unique art style and user creation make this a great game. Deserves to be mentioned.


I did not include 360 games because I don't own a 360, so my opinion on whats best would have no meaning. I also didn't include a Wii DL game because I have not played any, so I have no clue how great World of Goo is. Also, I did not include a Handheld game because the only one I have played is MD2, which doesn't deserve GOTY based on what I played.

Best Wii Game
Don't think anyone with any expectations will argue that 2008 paled in comparison to 2007. Sure, I'm still playing Brawl, and I'll be playing Animal Crossing for another 10 months or so, but pickings were slim. I still need to delve further into World of Goo, but as it stands, the winner is pretty clear, even with its garbage online and story mode.
Winner: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Best Xbox 360 Game
Since I'm not an FPS player, pickings may have been even slimmer than the Wii. Had some good times with Prince of Persia and Banjo (still playing), at least, and Fable II was probably better than I expected. Though Banjo really kills PoP and Fable in the longevity department. Oh yeah, and there's the fact that it's freakin' Banjo.

Best PS3 Game
I didn't touch a PS3 this year. Similarly, I didn't touch a girl's private area, either. What the hell is wrong with me?
Winner: Me saving hundreds of bucks.

Best Handheld Game
I didn't buy a single DS game this year, and the only ones I played were Kirby and Chrono, which were damn ports. And I refuse to play TWETY because everybody is so obnoxious about it. About the only thing I used my DS for was transferring my Wild World character to City Folk. That said, I did advertise Viva Pinata in my sig for a month and told people to buy it, even though I never actually did.
Winner: Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise (which I shamefully admit to not playing)

Best Multiplatform Game
They still make multiplatform games? Ah well, that means I can at least give the award to one of my previous honorable mentions.
Winner: Prince of Persia

Best Downloadable Game
Take a wild guess. If you answered Family Table Tennis, you are wrong.
Winner: Banjo-Kazooie

Game of the Year
One hero. Five levels. One boss. Excruciating precision. Constant game crashes. There is only one possible candidate for Game of the Year, and it truly is "teh bessst game everrr".
