What keeps you playing the 3rd Generation?

Well time has passed and my last answer is no longer valid. What keeps me playing the 3rd gen is the perfect opportunity to catch pokemon in that game that is harder to find in the 4th. And plus i want to catch all the legends and transfer them to platinum.. So basically its just the transferring opp. that keeps me playing the 3rd gen

I use them to get unobtainable Pokémon, or Pokémon I just can't be bothered going through the hassle of capturing, on D/P and to get items. Mostly Master Balls.

Specifically I use Sapphire. It's been restarted a good few times.

From now on I play them because of nostalgia.

It is better than DPPt (because of battle frontier), and I can clone stuff!

Well, at the moment, I can't play in Kanto, Johto, or Hoenn in the 4th gen, so I still play the 3rd gen (and 2nd gen with Crystal.) Sometimes I play Yellow, not often though. (I'll probably still play Crystal some times after Soul Silver comes out in America. I just got finished playing Crystal. I'll still play FireRed obviously after Soul Silver comes out.)

I find myself playing the 3rd gen the most. If I just played my copy of Platnium only now, it'd get boring. That, and the 4th gen just has the biggest flaws out of hte 3 for me. I still love Platnium though, I can't decide how where on my list of favorite pokemon games it goes really.

I play 3rd Gen simply for the fact that I really can't afford to upgrade to the DS system(not to mention the Wii). I have two boys that are old enough to play (and 2 others not old enough) so that means that I'd have to get 2 DSs for them (I use their GBAs now and have a Game Cube for myself). Then you'd have to get two cartridges. So that's my lame excuse.

I'm so into these games now that I don't really care about the 4th Gen anyway. I'll use FR for cleaning out TMs that are hard to find and the Move Tutors. I keep Ruby for playing Battle Tower mainly. My oldest boy has my Sapphire now. Emerald is my training/breeding hub game that all the others feed. And I like XD and Colli too. So, I'm perfectly content to stay where I am at.
Plus I'm not hot to relearn the attack system/movepools in DP, etc.

Like many have said Battle Frontier in Emerald. I rage quit it after a while, but after getting angry with Platinum's Frontier I decided to go to Emerald's Factory, and won my third symbol in over two years. So now I'm EV training up a new team and taking on Hoenn's Battle Frontier by storm. (Back to basics I say.)

Hoping to complete the Hoenn Pokedex at least, since I'm ... 45 Pokemon away from that as well.

The Battle Frontier basically makes the 3rd gen. The 4th generation Battle Frontier was terrible and easy. In Ememrald it's fun and challenging.

Playing the game without see it get messed up by 4th generation pokemon. Also was it the 3rd generation the fase when I started to understand the game and see how it works.

I like to play the older games,because they are still fun to play and they have pokemon and things to do that you can't do in the other games.

Simply put, I loved the game since it was my first owned version of Pokemon (one of my elementary school peers let me beat Team Rocket for him in GSC, though I was forbidden to use anything except Quilava's Flame Wheel).

Also, Emerald was the game that brought me back to Pokemon, my initial hobby, after the dark days of Yu-Gi-Oh-ridden middle school, which coincided with one of the hardest times in my life. Since I took such an interest in the finer details of Hoenn and the Pokemon world it acted as a buffer from hardship. That thought alone makes playing it again and again more enjoyable.

Finally, I simply love the characters in Emerald and am willing to play a previous generation to battle them.

Many things keep me playing the third generation games, though most revolve around the hope and glory that come with one day beating the battle frontier on Emerald Version. My other reasons revolve mostly around getting pokemon and items for my Fourth gen games, mainly Platinum.

Something to do when Diamond and Pearl get too monotonous.

Play through with a different set of pokemon.

Get the Johto starters once I get link cable for trading between Emerald and Ruby/ Sapphire.

Kanto starters.

Possible shinies (Skitty with 7 hours of game play FTW)
